Did you just bought a steering wheel cover to just show that you don't like steering wheel covers? damn man, that's commitment. i love you.
Business expense write-off.
Oğulcan ACAR
He can return it anytime, but yeah, I'm agree with you, awesome job too.
Write-off doesn't mean it's free, especially when you (instead parent entity) are the one handling all the costs of business. All it means is that it's taxed less, and even that still depends depending on type of expense and specific industry.
He works for Advanced Auto so he probably just borrowed it and put it back on the rack after making the video.
But it takes a huge chunk off something which probably wasn't very expensive to start out with. Sounds like tax laws are more complex in the US, ours are pretty simple, here I'd get around 45% of the cost of a non-asset/amortized business expense off my tax bill - 30% of earnings and 15% off consumer taxes (GST) - plus there are some other bits and pieces like accident compensation that come off wages that would make it a little more than this.
Just a safety warning, some vehicles have a capacitor for the airbag circuit that can hold voltage for up to 30 minutes after the battery is disconnected. Don't want anybody getting killed from an unintended airbag deployment 👍 Always follow manufacturer specified steps for removing your airbag

Hey Chris an easy way to reverse engineer that steering wheel cover is with the old one. Since yours came off in an easy manner if you add a little bit of steam to the old on and flatten it on you can actually just trace the old covers pattern onto the new material and it will have an even tighter fit to the wheel. Also for the seam when you stitch both ends together instead of knotching out in the rubber on the wheel if you press the seam open it will lay flush without having to remove any rubber. You can usually press a seam open with an iron. If the material you are working with should not be ironed directly use a low heat setting on an Iron and a piece of cotton cloth on top the press it open. This step does take a little more effort however the front stitching where the seam is will look really smooth and clean with the added work. If you ever tackle any more upholstery just remember to press open your seams after you sew them. This just helps all the seams to lay flat and flush, if you are doing a top stitch on anything you can also top stitch after you press the seam and this will help the material look super clean and flush. Enjoy :D
What a great tip, I hope we all learn from your advice.
Mmmkkkkkkm
Can you please make a demonstration video?
I"ve watched your videos for years. You've taught me how to charge my AC and get an old S10 working like a champ. Now, I've got a 03 Mustang GT and chiseling away at some projects and here you are! Thanks for this archive of awesome! I hope things are all going your way!

That’s pretty darn impressive Chris! I’m usually the one tackling those jobs that 90% won’t or find things get too difficult and time consuming - I tip my hat off to you on this one. Great job.
Chris literally makes everything look easy and i love him for that! who else?
When you break it all down, it is all pretty easy! The hard part is learning what to do, which is where I come in :)
ChrisFix How exactly did you or do you learn everything you know? Do you google it then practice till it looks sexy???
Chris is the best CZcamsr ever!! you help me a lot man!

I'm so mad that you also know how to sew and do what is essentially leatherwork in addition to being a fantastic mechanic.

Man, this is crazy thorough, I never would've thought of cutting a channel in the wheel for the seam to sit flat. Looks really professional. One tip if people have trouble cutting a straight line with scissors is you can use a rotary cutter and a cutting mat, makes it easy and fast to cut straight lines in fabric and stuff like that.
Wow this was so perfectly clear spaced timed and edited. Just perfect.
I'm glad you like the video! Thanks a lot!
No other car channel would talk about cutting along the bias like that. The attention to detail i keep finding binge watching your videos is amazing. Thanks so much for getting me hella into cars
Never planning on doing this but satisfying to watch

Glad you enjoyed the video!
The factthat chris gets RIGHT to the point in the start of the vid is what makes him so good

I have to say, it looked easier to change a clutch than to re wrap that steering wheel.

Chris. You are the reason I got a project car. I wanted to learn a new skill and your videos have been there for me. Been a sub for a long while now. Just wanted to say thank you!
Excellent video... having done this once before a long time ago, I can say it was a learning experience and the job didn't turn out nearly as good as yours. I wish I'd had this video to refer to! Fantastic content, Chris!
I'm 13 and my dad brought home an old 1988 Chevy silverado for me to fix up. so far it has been great fun. your channel has helped a lot.
I did the same thing except with a 79 W116 Mercedes
Damn son, good luck, may she serve you well!
Kennith Kennithson I'm basically the same but able to drive and an 82 f150 that he is mainly helping me with.
I'm 13 and have bought 4 trucks with my own money. My parents don't help with anything. I have had a 94 f150, 91 f150, 99 Chevy Silverado, and a 97 f150
I'm 9 and have bought 6 lofts in SoHo with my own money. My parents died before I was born and I was raised in an orphanage.
You are incredible. I'm a mechanic retired 50 years at the business. There are not many people around that do this quality of work anymore. Usually only in restoration shops. It's sad everything moves so fast and is throw away. The old days when we would fix everything make parts is pretty much gone. Great job. Highest compliments
Darnnn. This guy is a genius multifunctional. Greetings from Costa Rica.
this is my second video i have watched, your teaching and attention to detail leaving no questions is just as impressive
Top Tip. If your steering wheel doesn't require a puller and can be done with a bit of brute force, screw the nut/bolt back in a few threads before pulling. This will stop you from punching yourself in the face with your steering wheel.
Nobody that I know wants a bloody nose. Good advice. :-)
Matthew Lock I learned my lesson lmao
I bet you said a few "colorful" words LOL
I don't think there's a word I didnt say lol.
LOL Matty lock. Good advice man.
You know you're watching ChrisFix when sewing looks manly
All men should know how to sew. Used to be a necessity.
lol
I agree. My grandmother said the same thing when I was young and taught me how to hand stich and how to use a sewing machine. God rest her soul.
ChrisFix where do you find plastic cow skin for wrapping doughnut wheel in car?
Can you even walk with the size of your balls ? :p
I'm impressed that you did the leather cover from scratch. I used Loncky brand pre-cut leather steering wheel cover bought from Amazon. Good reviews, good quality, vehicle-specific options with holes. In the reviews, people post how long it took them to do this so it was a challenge. It took me about 8 hrs to do mine and I tried with steering wheel off but quickly reinstalled it because I couldn't get the right leverage for this. The choice is yours as to the pattern of stitching but I used a single needle method running all one way, then worked my way back.
That was really great. What a great video. That looks soooo good! I can't believe it turned out better than new. Really nice work man. That steering wheel looks amazing.
I'm happy just to learn how to straighten a steering wheel. Nice.
Usually you need to align the car's toe alignment.
If the steering wheel has never been removed before and it is crooked while driving straight, you have an alignment problem. Don't do this to straighten your steering wheel and instead, get your alignment checked.
Actually, it can be wonky from manufacturer. On pre-2009 Korean cars, it was surprisingly common..
It really depends on the car. I was hoping to do a little adjustment when I replaced my steering wheel, but the steel pegs coming out of the clockspring suggested otherwise.
if your steering wheel is off you should look at the tie rods/ tie rod ends and other suspension components, you may also want to see about having the vehicle aligned. i recommend shops like Firestone complete auto care that offer lifetime alignments. so that if you ever have the problem again you don't have to pay again. alignments can be expensive depending on the area and type of vehicle.
Now every time you're stuck in traffic, you'll be focused on and picking at the parts you wished you did better. lol.
haha I am actually completely happy with everything about the new cover so I dont have to worry about that!
ChrisFix you da man
