  • History, personal circumstances and destiny come together and weave the story of Princess Bathilde d'Orléans. “Remember, we were not brought into this world to be happy!” - she said to a friend who was going through difficult times. When she expressed those fateful words, Princess Bathilde was still very young, not suspecting what life had in store for her.

Goddamn the death of her son was really sad, not just the event itself but how it effected his parents. It is heart-warming to see two people who had a falling out still be able to provide empathy and support to one another at what I'm sure was both of their darkest moment. Especially for the time.
Also is nobody else gonna talk abt the dog like bruh 😭😭😭

Now I have great respect for Bathilde, she was a fantastic musician and wrote letters in which her thoughts are very impressive given her position as a princess of the blood, not to mention the amusing satire she made of her husband. Also noteworthy is her resilience in changing times such as the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Empire. The death of her innocent son proves one thing: sometimes power corrupts people. She had an illegitimate daughter. Thank you very much for your video, I appreciate the paintings and that you take the time to create a great biography of a forgotten but incredible character.

“Incredible” is the right word to describe Bathilde. I am so glad you liked this video. It means a lot - thank you.

Joseph Fouche, Napoleon's Minister of Police, famously said about executing the Duc d'Enghien, "It was worse than wrong--it was a blunder!" (I can imagine Machiavelli saying that.)

That's quite true. And the whole responsibility for the Duke's death lies with Napoleon.

I wish you would do videos on the early rulers of France, such as Charles Martel and Pippin. Those would surely be very interesting. I have enjoyed all your videos and hope to see more. Happy New Year and I hope it proves to be a great year for yourself. Your fan from Eastern Tennessee.

Brilliant video, Lives and Histories! You floored me when I found out about Mozart's sister, I used to think I was a real fan, but never knew he had a sister before now. Plus, having someone give their music to him. Then, the man carrying the woman off was cute, it reminded me of that scene from the movie An Officer and a Gentleman! Too bad things go sour eventually. boo. Well, hope your New Year was fun. I missed you, but this was soooooo worth the wait. Thank you. xx

Really pleased to learn you liked this video! Well, the Mozart family ... I love them.
Yes, the Duke of Bourbon had a streak of romanticism in him, too bad he was not faithful to his wife.

The titles of "prince" and "princess" are very very interesting, in my opinion.
As far as I know, it probably originally stems from the Latin "princeps", and it has been used over the course of history so many times and in so many ways, it can sometimes be confusing what exactly the title actually means, if you know what i mean ^-^
Sometimes it seems like only the direct children of a monarch (specifically queens/kings and empresses/emperors) were called princesses and princes, while in other situation, the title seems to have given to everyone even remotely in line to potentially inherit, while other times again it seems like practically everyone was a prince or princess :D
What an amazing story about Bathilde's betrothal though ^-^
We often hear about the cliché knights in shining armor climbing up towers to "rescue"/"steal" princesses in stories and so on, it's almost surreal to hear and think that this actually has historical precedence and did happen at least sometimes :)
it hurts to hear though that that "love" didn't last long.
Oh my, Chateau de Chantilly looks absolutely amazing 💛
I love the round domed towers and turrets in contrast to the steep sharp roofs and spires ^-^
The detail in the architecture is almost overwhelming, but it looks very very nice :)
And once again, another example of someone in a painful situation turning to the arts for comfort.
I know i have spoken many many times before about how much I can relate to that :)
This is a very very interesting story about a Princess in the middle of the French Revolution, thank you for telling us about her and her family 💛
it is very ironic, that someone with so liberal views and apparently strongly believing in equal rights and equal chance for everyone no matter their birth, ultimately had to suffer so much by the hands of the revolutionaries themselves, isn't it?
Once again, thank you so much for your videos, I very much appreciate them! 💛
I hope you are doing well and in good health :)
    ALL the best ^-^

      I’m glad you’re still here.
Princess Bathilde was a complex nature, and for many reasons, which you also mentioned, her story is fascinating.
I love Chantilly - there is so much history attached to it, not to mention the nearby forest, which is as nature intended it to be: perfect.
Thank you for your wishes. All the best to you as well.
