Sometimes the facts are more romantic than fiction. What a truly romantic personality, and what rare beauty, captured forever in some of the most exquisite portraiture ever created. Juliette’s wonderful life story must have inspired so many writers, from Stendhal to the Brontë sisters. The Napoleonic era was one of the most high-minded, high-achieving and all round distinguished in world history.
Beautifully put into words, Harriet. I fully share your views.
Sauf que Napoléon et Juliette Récamier n'étaient pas du tout des amis bien au contraire car elle n'aimait pas les personnes despotiques
The French way of painting women is a matter of pride, truly. She had amazing friends, and a hard but fulfilling life. Beautifully told story, thank you for your video.
Absolutely! I'm delighted you liked meeting her.
@@livesandhistories I must admit this is not my first introduction to her. However, I did thoroughly enjoy hearing her story again. I’m from Louisiana, US and I am Creole. So, I am very interested in French history, especially during the Napoleonic era.
@@jobivuvuvfvi605 Oh, that's wonderful! I'm so glad you are here.
This woman was truly admirable. Even today many people don't recognize the power that truly beautiful people have in society, and had Juliette been of a mercenary character she could have been quite manipulative and dangerous. It's reassuring to know that power doesn't necessarily corrupt everybody.
Very well said! She was a beautiful person both inside and out.
What truly lovely lady,I'm glad she found happiness in the end, thank you as always L&H,you told julleiets life story superbly she was the most human of souls.🙂
"The most human of souls" ... how very well said, Robert. I'm glad you liked her story.
@@livesandhistories very much so as always,Thank you for sharing this wonderful ladies life with us L&H.🙂
When i was a young boy, ( may be around 12 )my eyes met a portrait of madame Recamier, and suddenly, i became fascinated by her beauty...
Prince Augustus of Prussia also said in one of his letters to Juliette that he couldn't stop looking at her portrait.
@@livesandhistories I would have appreciated, having been prince Augustus of Prussia...😉

Madame Recamier had an interesting life that had its challenges and rewards. She also seemed to have had a kind disposition that attracted many of her admirers. Thank you for the video.
I'm delighted you liked meeting her.

And now I'm just a bit melancholic. That was lovely and i wasn't expecting it today. Thank you.
I know the feeling, too. And I'm glad you found this lovely.
@@livesandhistories I'm sure you do, given the stories you tell. Have a lovely day! Clouds are pretty too.
@@shamsam4 Sometimes, they are. All the best to you.
Juliette's father appears to have escaped a number of dire situations with the assistance of his beautiful wife and daughter.
Quite so.
Alleged father.
Rumors has it that Recamier her husband, who was also her mother's ex-lover was her real father.
@@laken1804that makes a lot sense given that he never slept with her

I'm delighted to hear this. Thank you so much!
Such a sad and beautiful story. How heartbreaking it is that she was a light for everyone else, but she carried a great sadness for most of her life...she never got to enjoy true happiness...so sad
Very well said!
At about 30:50, awww what a sweet thing for her friend to say. I love that little tidbit of history. I was just thinking , dang this lady really had the men under her spell. She DOES seem to be a nice person too.
She was indeed a very nice person. No one ever said a bad thing about her.
Thank you! I enjoy this video very much.
Wonderful!
Such drama and intrigue! It seems that the French elite delighted in this and society fed upon it. A woman of mystery and romance with holding her charms and attention to yearning men always drives them mad!
Such a fascinating story of a remarkable lady I didn't know about. Your videos are so beautifully made. Thank you 💐
I love it when people enjoy my videos.

A fascinating woman and a charming presentation. I loved it.
Wonderful! Thank you.
this is so intriguing! this is really fascinating! deep deep and durable affection. this is really intriguing!
Thank you ❤️
My pleasure, Katia.
Rizz Queen! lol but truly interesting to think about the fact that many of the documented and represented friendships of Juliette are of men who she had rejected. I wonder what she felt about that, and if that ever felt lonely. I wonder if she would have been so famous if she had actually had an affair with a man early on in her social career. Purity and one's proximity to it and how that affects one's life, especially in a society so much more viscerally prude their our own, is an interesting subject.
Yes, an interesting subject. Also, Juliette was robbed of her adolescence, and was swept away by the rough waves of adult life.
La société du temps de Juliette Récamier n'était pas prude du tout et beaucoup plus légère que maintenant et c'est justement la pureté de Madame Récamier qui a fait la différence
very good video it would be nice to have a future video talking about the story of Marie Louise O'Murphy one of the many lovers that King Louis XV had
Thank you so much. I'll keep your suggestion in mind.
