    That's damn cool. My wife was cheap and bought an 8ft non lit tree. I wanted it to look pre-lit so Ive carefully twisted 5,800 lights around each branch. Sure the lights alone cost twice as much as the tree but it definitely looks beautiful.

    Of course you can't do it this year cuz you already have your tree up, but next year before you set it up, pull it out early and go get yourself some stained glass paint. It's completely clear and it won't interfere with the light that comes through on the colored lights. You just add the stained glass paint over the top of the bulbs that are too bright. That's what we had to do because the greens are way too green and the blues are way too blue and it makes the whole room feel cold. We got our paint at Hobby Lobby, pretty cheap, about $2 a bottle. Another thing you can do is take some of the blue and green bulbs out and replace them with more of the red orange and yellow. LEDs are LEDs and you can put just about any brand of bulb in and they'll work. You can go to places like Balsam Hill or king of Christmas and they carry LED replacement bulbs that you can order in bulk. We do Christmas big time at our house, we have five 9 foot trees, two 12 foot trees, seven 6 1/2 foot trees with a couple of little ones here and there throughout the house and that doesn't include all of the mantles and banisters. We love Christmas! All of our trees are Costco. We even purchased four extra 9 ft trees in order to make all of the garlands for the mantels and banister so it would all match. Best trees in our humble opinions.

    Hi Rob, You were stating that you had added additional micro led lights from walmart was that the brand "holiday time"? Did you attach these into the wall receptacle separately or were you able to connect the walmart lights into the trees main stem receptacle? Also wondering if you have had to replace any of the strands yet and if you just used the walmart brand to connect to the main stem connection of the tree? Just bought a 9 foot from Costco and having a few concerns about when these micro lights start burning out. The company that supplies does not have any info on any replacement strands as they stated that replacement bulbs are not an option as each bulb is hard wired. Curious on if you just added your lights and plugged into the wall receptacle or if you have tried connecting to the main tree stem power source/

      Sorry for the late response after Christmas. I took these two weeks off. They were the Walmart brand and I connected them to a separate outlet with a smart plug. None of the lights on the Costco tree have gone out yet or had any issues at all.

    Any idea what brand lights are used by the Costco trees? I'd like to go with micro-LEDs on an unlit tree but cannot find anything that looks remotely similar. Any micro LED lights with remotes that I can find for purchase do not chain past about 600 lights. Or, alternatively, what brand did you use to add the white lights, and do they chain past 600 lights?

    • @vdgitaliano
      @vdgitaliano Před 3 lety

      You will love it. Costco trees are the best. Well made and don't break down right away. My only complaint is that the blue and green lights tend to be a little too vibrant, so we covered them with stained glass paint and toned them way down and it made all the difference in the world. Of course if you color the outside of a light bulbs, when you turn on the white lights instead of the colored ones, the bulbs you color will still have color on them so that's the only drawback, but if you leave your tree on colored lights all the time it doesn't matter. You can also replace some of the blue and green lights with red orange and yellow by purchasing the LEDs from anyone who sells LED light bulbs for Christmas trees. They're pretty universal.

      @@robb.sutton I have a technical background and I found that the tree has a manufacturing defect. Found this after troubleshooting it for a while. The pins aren’t long enough and the plastic insert that holds them must either be moved down the pole to ensure a positive connection or they must be extended somehow with new pins or a cap. I haven’t performed the permanent repair yet but I have the tree working by losing the pin cap and making the extensions longer. I physically would push the pins into place.

    • @robb.sutton
      @robb.sutton  Před rokem

      Interesting. Is it possible it is just an issue with the one you got that wasn't manufactured correctly? We haven't had a issue with ours and we actually bought an 8 foot version for the basement.

      @@robb.sutton not sure but I spoke with the company it looks like they know of issues with the tree but didn’t know the cause. They only replace the tree if you have the original receipt. Unfortunately it was a second hand tree for me and I didn’t have that original receipt so they wouldn’t honor the warranty. You will notice overtime you may have the same problem. Just remember it’s a pin issue when the sections do not light up.
