Yeah I tells that to my srilankan pals. They know that but they say that cause of their government and only recent of srilanka they don't have much opportunities to improve. Since things are cheaper alot of people aren't motivated to be entrepreneur that's why there aren't any srilankan billionaires. This is from first hand expirience BTW for the past 7 years there. They are like India during thr cold War where many just wanted to survive and live and modern nepal (before economic crisis in srilanka). That's why they have given have and the new generation just wants to leave the country and never come back. Srilanka have high brain drain. Alot of them move to the USA or Australia(mostly in Melbourne). If you check the races with the highest salaries in usa top 10 you can find srilanka having higher salaries on average compared to a average white and African American or even Korean Americans. So yeah most of the government members for the past 40 years ruined that country

@@setiawanskom8872 See the difference between a bank and china is that with a bank you get many options even if you can't repay your loan on time without severe repercussions, with China there are rigid conditions that cannot be overruled by any means, it is not client friendly, for example Pakistan has been taking loans from China for a very long time, it cannot pay it back which in real they can't, now China eyes Strategic things like highway tolls, even the highway itself, ports like Gwadar are leased for 100 years, these locations can be used by China at any given moment inside a sovereign country without any resistance, that undermines the very security of the nation as China is very well known to occupy lands it considers its own, take for example Aksai Chin, Tibet, China occupied Kashmir etc. It stakes claim on Taiwan and does air raids everyday voilating the Taiwan airspace and it claims stake on the indo pacific island countries as well sending its ships to blockade trade routes for some time to show authority etc.

Bro there is a reason why alot of countries including Africa and small Europe countries ask Chinese loans cause they provide the most form the rest of the countries. After 2009 srilanka's needed money to increase tourism since the Civil War over and they could finally improve the country after many decades. India couldn't afford to give loans dummy and other than the imf and world bank china were offering a larger loan which was attractive. Don't be stupid India is a big economy and there is a reason why 20 countries went behind China instead of India. If these countries went behind India the government can't afford cause China is richer

As an Indian, that’s not the way to speak to a country that’s holding onto life. We have to help our neighbours if they’re asylum seekers. If we were in the same situation with milk being Rs. 400 per liter, don’t you think moving to a country where you can get a meal and survive is a better option? We should definitely do what we can from here, but denying asylum seekers entry is cruel. Which is why nobody in Srilanka knew about the Hambantota deal, but India's agreement is open to public and is pure business of leasing oil tanks in Srilanka and does infringe on Srilanka's sovereign right.

Best solution is for Sri Lanka to sign the instrument of accession to India. It was a part of Indian civilization for thousands of years, and it can definitely work to be a part of India. I hope Pakistani's are seeing this video. They got into bed with the Chinese as well, and you can be sure, that within the next decade, Pakistan will face a similar crisis for sure. They already have an ongoing political crisis, ailing economy, and an illiterate population. Similarly, even though Punjabi culture and Sinhalese culture may be different, we'd still be brothers. Where does all this loan money go? In private pockets or the country? The pockets got to be huge,so they can start emptying their pockets now ,instead of asking for more ,and again it disappears in pockets isn't it? Same old story all over again ,round and round and ,merry go round.
Is it not obvious how china makes money from artificially bankrupting economies around the world. If you look carefully, they will loan money for high interest and most of loan goes to Chinese vendors. When the client country goes bankrupt, they seize the assets or book profit if the country repays
Isn't that how all loans work with collateral? Any contract that is signed pretty much has those requirements. The difference between China's loans and the IMF's loans, is that China actually builds the infrastructure that the loans are for, while IMF loans goes directly to the government to build the infrastructure, which often gets pocketed by the government officials and no infrastructure gets built.
When the countries cannot repay the loan, China takes the infrastructure the loan was for, while IMF imposes austerity measures on the country until the loan is repaid.
I hope India don't waste the hard earned money of its taxpayers to earn goodwill of the corrupt Rajpaksha family...
