Sure, the child can get adopted or if only one partner goes, they can remarry, but what about the emotional burden of losing a parent? I have MANY and I mean MANY friends around me who are still 19-20 years old who have lost one of their parents, and the entire family had to be working to manage surviving since as students, there's so many hours of work they can do, and the rest goes to studying and school. In the US, many millennials are dealing with crushing debt from student loans, higher costs of living, low pay but increasingly demanding workload, and difficulty accessing health care, especially child care. Also, many of us American millennials came from dysfunctional homes and knew at least one person whose parents had a nasty divorce. The option to adopt is there, but most people will never take it

My husband and I are moving with our first child to a super small town, purchased 118 acres which cost us the same amount as an apartment in the city. Cheaper, a good community, less social media presence, fear and pressure. Simplicity. It's a big move but we decided we needed to get back to the basics for our health and sanity. We want our children to be raised with work ethic, manners, community values and basic life skills so they dont have to rely on others. We will grow our own food, raise and respect our animals. City living is just dreadful now. No one cares about their neighbors, everyone runs on fear, trying to keep up with the Jones. No one can tolerate a difference of opinion or have intelligent, cilivilized conversation. It's very sad. It's not working for us so we are changing it. Happiness is out there.

    - Having children is a LOT of work! Most people are exhausted with their routines already...

Now I did teach in nursing so they might me more aware of those situations and negative consequences, but I found them very articulate. My generation felt the need and desire to have a child for fulfillment. This generation experiences their fulfillment in other ways. I do not think we should impose our beliefs and desires on this generation. My son has said for years (since he was 18) he did not want children. For the first 10 minutes after I found this out, I was devastated. But within 10 minutes - I realized "why would I want something for him that he does not want for himself". I found my belief to be very selfish and I did a 180. I want him happy. We should want everyone happy and it should never be decided because it can provide a stable financial future for our county. That makes for terrible parenting and resulting future generations who are not really wanted. Let them be and decide on their own.

While I normally enjoy Palki's segments, I was a little disappointed that the entire segment seemed to focus only on the role of women in dropping birth rates. Men are having a huge impact on birth rates by losing interest in marriage and even intimate relationships. The percentage of sexless men and women has also been increasing over the past several years. If many men and women aren't satisfied with the state of modern dating and relationships, that needs to be addressed before we even begin to think about bringing children back into the equation.

When there is so much trouble in life, I really don't know from where the question of having so many children come to our grandfather's mind. First of all we should create a supportive and conducive environment for the future generations and then bring them into the world so that they live such a life that we couldn't imagine possible.
