Wasn't this used later to control morale? When they were receiving letters and the guy who got divorce papers was raging, the Sgt Major was asking to be told if morale went too far down so he could hit them with the grooming standard. A good way of uniting the men against a "common enemy" (exaggeration, but you get what I mean).
yeah, that was the idea. if they're united in their common hatred over Sixta, then it was supposed to help morale and camaraderie. However, I don't really think it worked out that way in reality, but that's just my opinion.
@@wesjanson6979 It sort of does, in a way. In that scene, those letters were basically reminding the soldiers that they had problems at home. That they weren't there for their children, that their wives were leaving them, that their cars were being repossessed. It takes their minds off the war. Now, Sixta and his grooming standard was probably absolutely infuriating, but he made sure they were focused on a more 'immediate' problem. Sixta is part of the war. So they were instead focused on the war. Solving the Sixta problem was done by solving war problems. It kept their heads in the action, so to speak, so that they didn't forget they were always in a potential combat situation and weren't thinking about how much they need to go home to take care of things. It works from that perspective, and as Ray alludes to in the series, keeping the Marines angry makes them more combat effective, as they're more likely to take their aggression out on an enemy than show timidity born of their contentment or distance from the conflict.

Love the guy with the goose steps lmao. If they ever grabbed a guys face like that in today’s military the grabber would be court martialed and the grabbee would go to a safe room. But that SM liked them young and clean shaven anyway 😜😂😂😂
You got a thumbs down from someone (as did I) who apparently does not get the humour in this. If this is based on a real incident...... hats off to the the real Sgt Patrick. I am pretty sure I could not have kept a straight face. To whoever keeps giving the "thumbs down"...... I do not love, like or approve of Hitler or the goosestep. I do however love, like and approve of funny shit.
@@Matt92847 not mocking. Earlier in the episode if you listen he says “Hitler stash is regs”. Meaning that having a Hitler style mustache is actually within regulation. The Marine Corps has specific rules about mustaches not extending beyond the corners of your mouth. So obviously if you follow that to a T you end up with a Hitler mustache.
No its not Sergeant.. Its WITH AN S...(army bro. I wasn't a marine but in the ARMY its Sergeants Major (pronounced Sarnt Major lol) SO maybe in the CORPS its spelled different but its actually Sergeants Major Not Sergeant Major

I've watched the series 3 times now, and didn't notice the goose-step in the background until just now. rofl
Thats the good old Stechschritt 😂
Nor I. Was the implication that the 'tache was Hitler-esque or that the Sergeant Major was an little Adolph wannabe? (Funny either way).

@@wesjanson6979 he was being a hate sink. Sgt majors in the real act like kind grandpas but when in combat do you see how cunty they become.
The Marine in the background though XD
I watched this 3 or 4 times before I noticed the guy in the background doing the Nazi strut. Now that is some funny shit!
