What white paint was your favorite again? I know you said apple Barrel Black was good but what was the white the titanium white pro something brand
Jay just casually dropping a real easy to follow great looking NNM technique in the middle of a speed paint video 😍
That's why we love our eob fam!
NMM is secretly the hardest technique there is. Having the appropriate colors is only half the equation. Lighting being the remainder and by far the most difficult. If the lights not right it just doesnt work. Not mention the other techniques nested within NMM. I feel like its truly a master level skill.
@@jc7997aj oh i know, i spend tons of hours on the tiniest bit of trim. Im just saying this looks nice for quick results and for anyone that wants to try it, not a bad way to do so. 🙂
For real! Best explanation I've seen.
I tried his technique it’s not that easy
If I were to take 4 hours to paint, mine would look like your 2 minutes one. And I'd be proud of it 😄 Nice vid, a good incentive!
The 2 hour marine is really good, and the 20 minute is more than fine for tabletop! Even the 2 minute marine, I'd be glad to play with players who just take 2 minutes to paint their entire army like that!
I jokingly did a similar thing a while back, I decided dry brushing was the way to do it so there was no paint drying time and no need to do proper highlights. It actually looked okay.
This. I've actually started JUST dry brushing everything with the smallest dollar store dry brush I can find. Works so well even my twelve-year-old has some fairly impressive paint jobs with the technique.
The 20 minute is very good. 2 hour amazing "show off to everyone" The 2 minute is "My opponent is coming over tonight and I will NOT field Grey plastic." I like how Miniac was able to nail it after adjusting expectations up when seeing the 2 minute.
Almost like he is able to recognise a pattern :D
Has Jay ever been on Trapped Under Plastic? He's so full of enthusiasm it'd be a great episode.
No but I like your idea.
This needs to happen. @miniac @ninjon you must get Nick and Jay on your show.
I think the 20 minute model looks great! The two hour one is outstanding, but you're right, there's no way we'd spend that much time on a single troop model. A character on the other hand? 100%
I must be doing something wrong, cause I took 6 hours for a single troop to make it look nice as possible
Oh yes we would.
So cool to see you getting some collabs, this is my favourite channel and I want to see it grow!
In two minutes I don't even finish wondering what to do next, let alone paint a mini
Hey Jay, I just wanted to comment that I stumbled upon your channel last week and I watch a lot of hobbyists on CZcams. I’ve done nothing but binge watch all your stuff over the past week, and I’ve become a huge fan. Your sense of humor is on point with my friend group and you’ve quickly become my favorite hobbyist on CZcams. Keep up the awesome work my dude!
What a fun video idea! 2 minutes is WILD
The 2 min was just to get that reaction Scott! 😂 very impressive.
0:27 best eob moment
The 2 minute vid was hilarious! I think the 20 minute model is more than fine for standard troops- save the 2 hour + jobs for HQs and big models. Frankly, I have seen people with entire armies of models that look like your 2 minute one... complete with borked decals. Better than grey!
EOB just casually being the Saitama of mini painting and not even knowing it
Miniac appearing in the video is a surprise for sure, but a welcome one.
My wife is also impressed with 2 minutes.
Weird, she tells me that 20 minutes is super impressive
It’s all about how you use your time, brother. A bull ride is 8 seconds at the longest, never heard anybody wish it were longer.
Dude, when worlds collide...
Special guest star Scott the Miniature Maniac?
What is this, the Love Boat?
Who's next, Rich Little and Charo?
The twenty minute model is... fine.
But that two hour model, with the nmm is the chef's kiss. 🤌
I bow before your skills.
All hail Jay.
4:20 bookmarking this!
You know you've made it when Miniac does a cameo!!
5:00 the BAIT, incredible, just *chefs kiss* bravo
The philosophy at the begining I would say a miniature is then finished when you are finished and satisfied with your work and don't have the urge to IMPROVE THINGS
2h model 😍
Rarely have that much fun watching a video. Thank you sir!
Thank you Mr Battle, very cool
Just wanted to say thanks, I've gotten back into painting in the last 2 months and your videos are really welcoming and insightful.
A lot of videos really make it intimidating and that you have to be perfect.
Yours however makes you remember its about fun. Plus I think your minis look better than most.
20 min one looks good, 2 hour is excellent, 2 mins? With decals? Absolute madlad
The two minutes was the best!! Way better than the 2 hour or 20
2 hours is a good amount of time if you want something really amazing looking.
The 20 minute one is a good amount of time if you just want something game ready.
2 minutes is a fun amount of time just to see what can be cranked out.
Loved this video, was a a lot of fun to watch.
Two hours is the one!! 20 mins is fine but the that extra time really shows
Doing decals on a 2 min paint job.. Absolute mad man
The basing is awesome. Something I really LOVE about that
When that 2 minute mini is still better painted than some of the minis you own, that's a mood...I still enjoyed the video though!
Thick magic marker for the base rim if Scotty's waiting to judge ya ..... clearly lol. Seriously nice work within each timeline. Cool video
this guy is literally the goat, thanks so much for the vids bro!
The 20 minute model actually looks amazing for how long it took. would be able to knock out a solid looking tabletop ready army in a decent amount of time. The 2 minute model turned out surprisingly well for the time other than the decal of course. Entertaining as hell to watch.
20 minute job is bang on. With maybe 30 mins could do some highlights and hit the base rim but really who cares. Nailed it.
Would love to see you do some more stuff with Scott, maybe a speed paint competition?
Scott is the best, such a wholesome guy!
As much as I love a good fine art project, that 20 minute marine is a great goal for first time painters, or anyone who wants to knock out a complete army for playing ASAP. Rank and file don’t need 3 layers of shading and highlighting on their shoelaces.
The video we've all been waiting for
The gold trim on the 2 hour video was amazing Jay.
Find your videos really easy to watch and you present them well. Nice clear and enthusiastic speech helps too, much like ChrisFix.
Certainly a channel to subscribe too as I pick up my new hobby this month.
The true lesson here is how far good photography techniques can take you. Those 20 and 2 minute models STILL look pretty great under that incredible lighting. It makes me wonder how many times I've judged my poor trash paint jobs against minis online that look 1000% better in photos than they really are. If nothing else, I now have more empathy for kids comparing themselves to edited photos and filtered video of their role models. I know you guys have already done a (fantastic) photo technique tutorial, but maybe EoB could do a special episode comparing the pro-level photos of project you've done with raw smartphone pics?
The 2 hour model is better than 100% anything Ive ever painted in several times the time
Bro I hate to betray some other creators but you basically became my favorite CZcams presence overnight
If you are having trouble getting some colours to spray they may have some particulate in the paint that is clogging the brush. Running the paint through some nylon panties as you pour it into the colour cup is a quick and easy way to filter.
“You know what is also gold?”

I have been played! XD
Love the video. It’s got me thinking.
That 2 minute model would not look out of place next to my 2 hour Ultramarines, though may borrow that nmm for my next mini! Nice work all round
Love the collaboration. Awesome video and the paint job is hell impressive 👏 😀
Loving that Wisconsin/Minnesota connection. Fun challenge and great to see Nick on video!
Such a good point about the airbrush taking a lot of time to prep. Airbrush works so well in larger groups. I like to get my squads done in a batch with the airbrush, then go individually for another hour or two each model. Right now I'm doing 10 terminators from Horus Heresy. I airbrushed the armor with a red coat, did heavy white zenithal and then a final layer of transparent yellow, all with the airbrush, all 10 at once. I'll do the rest in brush work. Works well for me.
As always Jay, thanks for entertaining us !
Absolutely epic
So awesome to see Scott featured!
I kind of love the base on the 2 minute model, the red on blue looks nice!
Very enjoyable - loved the gold!!!
i wish i could pain a model to that standard in 20 mins, looks great.
I think, about 5 minutes is enough to paint shoulderpads and a bolter metallic + airbrush a base.
Nevertheless it is not fair 'ready time', it is just part of 'paint time'. We all know about so many additional preparations that take the majority of time. Remove moulder lines, make rocky base, prime a model (we have to wait primer to dry), prepare paints for airbrushing...
Truly shows the law of diminishing returns in action. While the 2 hour one looks amazing, if one considers painting a whole army the 20 minute one is good enough and still looks sick.
Just ordered my first minis, i can only hope they turn out as good as the 20 minute model
For a good UM with airbrush I suggest mcgragge blue as base, Kantor blue for the darker zones and temple guard blue as light zones, then a blend with Talassar Blue all over it
I'd love to see you try that in 3 mins- but this time no decals- just paint. Decals are handy enough to take care of later, when the paint on the model/pallette is dry.
3 minutes should be enough for most colour blocks and a wash- which is really enough for a beginner to build off
I’m a little surprised that he never threw in a quick dry brush on the base, but all three are good enough for tabletop. I’d say the 20 minute is the right balance for building an army, and the 2 hour is good for characters and show pieces.
I paint models and don’t keep track of time… cause I’m afraid I spend too long on them. Your 20 min is still good and good for the table.
best and fastest nmm guide i've seen lol
Amazing video guys!
20 min is good for game play. I would probably do more detail on a special model in the army. Very nice jobs.
This made me remember that I need to paint my death guard plague marines
That 20 minute model is imoressive
Now I might need to do a 2 minute army
I liked the 20 minute model best. Might have to practice with my airbrush.
Your shading STILL looks better on the 2-minute one than mine do after hours! Phenomenal work!
Awesome video 😎
The 20 minute one looks better then most of the mini's I spend a couple of hours on lol
the way you said decals gave me a heart attack
Thanks for the conveniently timed video, Jay. I just started my ultramarines XD
When jays 20 minute one looks better than your 6 hour marine 😂
Came for the Mini painting stayed for the "holy moly ravioli jon bon Jovi"
Ah what a Cross over!
The 2 minute one is better than what i paint in like a hour or something
Two hours model: classic paintbrush.
Twenty minutes model: air brush.
Two minutes model: hair brush!
😳
The painting is great and all, but we need more banjo!
Really nice challenge. The 20 min. marine is a really cool basis. Thanks, will try this on a kill team of intercessors.
Most of my 40k Salamanders are two minute models. Army painter Ork Skin rattle-can primer, boltgun weapon and black shoulder pads. My Death Guard army is smaller with more details, about 30min per. Only fail on the DG is I didn't shake/stir my Army Painter dip so they came out glossy. :-(
I just dip my models in the paint and call it done
For real though, that gold NMM bit was outstanding.
It seems to me that gluing decals should not be included in the main time for applying paint to miniatures. 😅😅
Painting Ultramarines in 1 second idea: dip them in blue paint.
I don't have the resources to this but you should try hydro dipping the marines. Not sure if even possible.
I need to save this video so I can try to replicate it for the HUNDREDS of marines I have yet to paint
I feel like your 2 minute model is better than my 8 hour mini!!! Haha. The 20 minute is totally fine for the table top. Well done gents!
What brushes do you use? Sizes and brand? Awesome work as usual
No point in being afraid of a challenge you have no way of meeting.
I recon if u had 5 mins u could have finish the decals, done some gold and silver and been tabletop ready! 👌
I actually like the base rim on that 120-minute model, it has a nice gradient to it. Who says you've got to solid color base rims?
I once did a 10 minute build for a gw store birthday event. Was given 5 minute to build it and 6 minutes to paint. We had to build a clamshell plastic mini to put together. I was the only one to customise with a different head to make a medieval tau from an fantasy empire surveyor. We also only were allowed 4-5 paints
Maybe 2 hours for heroes, or maybe even unit leaders. But definitely not for all the troops!
Bros 20 min model looks way better than my 3 hour 😢 back to the practice models lol
For the gun, really.... Black Templar contrast. Really quick, and looks great.
