  • I've been having issues with my 2020 KTM TPI. The 0-1/4 throttle response had a lot of sputtering and wasn't running clean. I switched the CPS (cylinder port sensor) out with the ambient sensor and it fixed the issue.

    Good way of fault finding as they are same. FYI - It’s the Crankcase Pressure Sensor (CCPS) not Cyclinder.

    @MrPerattzi Před 3 lety +4

    My 21 TE250i had the exact issue. In my case I believe what happened is I left the wash plug in my silencer after cleaning the bike. After washing I always start the motor to burn off water in nooks and crannys. Wouldn't start, then the wash plug went shooting out 10 feet lol. So, it is theorized that if you do this, you can damage the crankcase pressure sensor by creating all that pressure. I too swapped in the ambient sensor and fixed it (that is til I forgot the DAMN PLUG AGAIN).

      Perhaps just slip a bag over the silencer?

      Wow, i have done this before also (wash plug left in and trying to start bike). Over the last 3 months bike is running crappy and idle is off. I took my sensor off today and they were dirty. Ended up breaking one of the end sensor pices off where the o ring was, so have to buy new sensor. But going to get two new sensors and see if my idle problem is fixed. never occured to me that maybe i might have done something by leaving the wash plug in and trying to start (had this happen at least 3 times in the last year).

      @@CoolEyeColorado Yeah I had many problems and swapped so many sensors and that will fix it for awhile. My idle was always fine though. More a 1/4 throttle and sometimes a huge bog when getting into power. I replaced the crank seal… wasn’t that. Replaced reeds… wasn’t that. Checked tps voltage… in my case I just redid the top end and cleaned/rebuilt power valve at 100 hrs…. Repacked the silencer and now it runs fantastic.

    The mention of the mysterious one day sudden low idle is what I also have. I gotta try this out. Might as well install the map switch too since I have to pull the tank.

      @KooLaidblue Před 3 lety +4

      It worked. Or at least my idle is fixed. I haven't had a chance to ride it yet though. I wonder if it'll still adjust for altitude though since they're all out of stock.

      Update: idle is good. Still sputters...... Strange. It would start to sputter at nearly exactly where you were shifting in your video

    Some are like this from new but try getting this under warranty from KTM. Good bloody luck. They are pricks. It’s about time this company is taken to court for their bullshit warranty aspects. It’s a common problem and yet they refuse to acknowledge it. Also the idle problem is a shit. They should just put an adjustment screw in, but no of course they won’t. Let’s just charge an arm and a leg for our products and then make the customer spend a few hundred more fixing our fuck ups. Yeah great business sense. GET your shit together KTM

    My bikes been sputtering and running like poo.... it’s hard to listen to when I watch footage of my rides. Also recently fouled a plug after riding for about 30 hours after running the original one for 80 hours. Then it fouled another one two hours later. Definitely gonna try this. CCP sensor back ordered until may

    • @MAXlMUS
      @MAXlMUS Před rokem +2

      Exactly the same issue on my side. When you start fouling plugs too soon, having bog issue on idle cold and randomly on a trail - it's CCPS replacement time. Bogging results in fouling the plugs.

      @@mike.khar. Unfortunately it never got diagnosed. It went in and they found the cylinder was marked so replaced that under warranty they voluntarily replaced the CCPS and I think oil pump at the same time. When I got it back it ran well in the low-mid range but had awful jerking/cutting in and out at the high range into the power. Tried a new power valve but didn’t solve anything so it was returned to Dealership. Cylinder had fried itself again all under 30 hours. I was really gutted and upset. I ended up getting a replacement bike (250cxf) under warranty. I also ended up buying a kickstart only 2012 150xc 😂 and absolutely love it.

      And I want a TPI in Mexico to replace my 2014 Husky that has a Lectron and runs mostly Ok. Only when starts cold I have to rev a bit for 20 seconds or so. I am thinking in upgrading to a Lectron SC2 or replacing the bike with a newer TPI. I heard they run super smooth 95% of the time.

    Hello guys, when you had problem with this sensor CCP maybe you had a problem with a spark plug at the same time? Since about 10 hours (total mileage 43h - KTM EXC300 TPI MY2020) I have a problem with a spark plug, it looks like too rich mixture. The spark plug is black and a little wet, when I clean it up, bike runs and start normally - I replaced them about 3 times, because I thought that is broken, but cleaning helped, spark plug works fine - NGK BR7ES (the owner manual say that my spark plug can be used interchangeably with a NGK ZGR7GI-13G). I've got an additional idle screw mode in my bike if this an importatnt information.
    Thanks for any tips ;)

    • @MAXlMUS
      @MAXlMUS Před rokem

      Yes, I have the same issue - bogging when idling cold + spark plug fouling. I believe the last is the result of a faulty CCPS as well. Bikes runs richer due to bad pressure measurement and fouls the plug. I tried both plugs you mentioned too. ZGR7GI-13G iridium is hotter and more of "explosive" and "sonorous", I like it more, but they both foul just the same.

      Hi,
      I bought a 2020 recently and start t get into it. Some Tips:
      1. Bad Idling and eating Spark Plugs:
      Install the Idle Screw mod, like Slavens solution. So you can tune the idle and adjust the air screw Position. Too rich airscrew means too rich gas mixture wich causes the death of the Spark Plugs.
      2. Cleaning the hose and the brass jet into the cylinder regularly. Little thing with much improvenent in throttle response!
      3. Sensors.Just clean them regularly.
      4. Warming up. TPI Models are very sensitiv in that case. Start it and warm up without reving, until the radiators are hot. Takes about 5-8 min in normal conditions.
      I hope that helps someone.
