- Doesn’t it seem like that all this new age Spirituality is basically REPACKAGED HINDUISM?
Just as how Yoga in the West has been associated with physical exercise and stripped of its HINDU origins, many Hindu concepts and philosophies have also been taken from Hinduism, repackaged and sold to millions of gullible Westerners.
The popular Deepak Chopra and Eckhart Tolle are classic examples of some of the contemporary new-age “GURUS” who are living off the Hindu culture, plagiarizing Hinduism, yet failing to give credit where it is due.

I like to address an important topic I came across in the comments. For some reason, some people have problem when it comes to donating money to priests in Temples. Everybody wants the services & rituals offered by the priests but for free. Do you have any idea what it takes to learn so much of the vedas, train and memorize all the hymns, mantras, chantings??
My father told me about the struggles of his parents (my grandparents) of what it's like growing up in a poor priest's family. My grandfather was a priest and in his early age even worked at Tirupathi, which was an honour. The only salary he received was just the camphour and sandalwood that was applied on Lord Venkateshwara's murtie. Then later on, he would go to other's home to perform whatever rituals they required. The money he got was so very less.. my grandfather never demanded any specific amount. He would humbly accept whatever that was given. Sometimes people didn't even give money. They would just give rice, some bad quality fruits they didn't want. It was barely enough to feed his family. That's why he didn't pass down his knowledge to my father, since he struggled so much and wanted his son to have a "real" career. My father became an engineer through his hardwork (remember..there are no reservations in India for brahmins, no matter how poor/ low socioeconomic status they come from). We moved to Canada not so long ago. My dad knows the untold pain of being a priest, so we give money directly to the priests in the temple, as well as donate money to the Temple.. so that the temple's don't go extinct. Our Hindu ancestors preserved all the ancient scriptures for them to survive long enough to be recorded in our modern digital world. The ancient knowledge of Sanathana Dharma is now available for the world to access, so the credit should be given to the mother of all sources.. which is Sanathana Hindu Dharma.

Those who can't chant a single Sanskrit mantra expect the Pundits to spend their lives in doing Pujas for free..They are the same people who will spend any amount of money in senseless worldly things but they want the priest to spend his life like a beggar. Utter shame.
These chaps should try living in a Gurukul and learn just one thing. ASHTADHYAAYI. Yes, only one thing.

I had a long debate with an Europen Lady who runs a channel name " Jesus Yoga " ... I am astonished that she claiming yoga is from Jesus .. ha ha ha .. she had no idea about Adi Yoga / Patanjali and making a case that Jesus invented yoga.

And this has long before had become the culture of Europe. They steal things from other people and show it, as if it belongs to them.

Famous quote "love thy neighbour" is actually from a buddhist text.
As for muhammad , his many sayings and doings are recorded in hadis which were compiled 200 years on after his death and muslims believe those compilations are not corrupted. Many of his saying n deeds are contradictory which do suggest that either muhammad was truly a humble n kind man and later due political power got arrogant or may be there were many additions that bigots added to hadis attributing them to the prophet for the gain of their own brotherhoods
I am not saying muhammad was buddhist. I am saying that the islamic claims that his teachings are corrupt free is doubtful

Right on brother! I was raised a catholic Christian in Ireland but Hinduism and Bhuddism always made more sense to me since I was 15. I meditate and do yoga and I know it comes from the Hindu and Bhuddest traditions. I am very grateful to that knowledge and perhaps what is really happening here is that many people are naturally moving towards Hindu beliefs and Bhuddest beliefs, like a subconcious mass conversion. You are right that you don´t need any New Age Gurus or New age cults. This knowledge has already been around in the east for thousands of years in India and other parts of the east. Be proud to be Hindu because yes, we are now following your light. You do not need any external recognition from any other religion or governament when you are already becoming the faith of choice. Buddhism is also nothing but an offshoot of Sanatan, not older than just 2500 years. Adya Shankaracharya had to incarnate exactly for this reason when Sanatan was dying in motherland due to spread of Buddhism and Jainism that do not recognise Vedas.

yeah this is pretty sensitive to me. it’s 2021 and it’s apparently a trend now to be into spirituality and astrology as a westerner/non-indian, but it’s been around for so long and no one is appreciating, as u said, the ancient spiritual wisdom of india and hinduism. everyone is into crystals, incense sticks, readings, etc…but are lost when i bring up the word ‘agarbatti’. it should really be brought to light instead of being “reintroduced” as a western ideology :)
This is a topic dear to me because when I began serious seeking I went to a New Age church for awhile. Actually, I learned quite a bit from them such as info about yugas and the various aspects of yoga and other Hindu concepts. So I cannot totally brush them aside, BUT I kept feeling like something was missing. It finally dawned on me once I started going to temple. It was the deities! New ageism is basically just (IMHO) Hinduism without the deities. So once I walked into a temple and was engulfed in the warmth and love of Lord Shiva, there was no looking back.

My stomach is aching with pain laughing hard. My first book to read on self help was by Deepak Chopra almost 2 decades ago. When I read, it was nothing but gita lesson. My discovery that too by me who didn't read gita, it is in air. Spiritualism is yes repackaging of Hinduism. Why waste money. Read gita and other literature. Very true.
I think Chopra's books are useful for the neuroscience perspective but not so much the spiritual part.
As a westerner, I can say new age was a good stepping stone to Hinduism for me.

I disagree. You don't need to go make something more modern and appealing to to make it popular. There's no need to make it popular in the first place anyway. Christianity has more or less stayed true to how it was practiced over the last 2000 years and it is still popular, is it not?

Look it up, many Westerners call yoga and other Hindu/Buddhist practices as "demonic." Why do we feel the need to spread our knowledge to a world that has no true appreciation for it? And even if they appreciate it, why do they not practice these things the way they are meant to be practiced?

I am totally guilty of falling for Eckart Tolle's teachings. When Oprah asked him how did he gain his profound knowledge, he replied that it was from his own intuition. I realized later on that his "teachings" are Advaita Vedanta (i.e., Hindu) philosophy. He just calls them different terms. As dishonest as this may sound, I think he is spreading Hinduism. I credit my practicing asana yoga, meditation and Eckhart Tolle for bringing me back to Hinduism. It is a bit surreal to be in a yoga class and my white American instructors are talking about Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita and the story of the Ramayan, and playing an Indian Harmonium.
It could be from his own intuition, tbh. I did shrooms and it led me to Hinduism, because it matches up perfectly with what I saw. So.. who's to say that it wouldn't just pop into someone's mind.
Wayne Dyer referencing the Gita peaked my interest in Vedic spirituality then I took a meditation class from an Indian Doctor. After that I dove into it and never looked back.

One must also internalize the guidance and instructions by associating and enquiring deeper understanding and messages of the Ślokas with a bonafide spiritual guru (master and/or practitioner), because the foundation of this divine book is established one genuine sincere enquiry in the mood of genuine humility, learning & understanding and clarifying concepts as well as doubts with the teacher of all teachers Lord Krishņa! I just found you! I am very interested in Hinduism so I’m trying to learn what I can. I have not gone to temple yet. I’m very nervous! I’ve been doing Hatha yoga for some time and really enjoy it. It keeps me very focused. I have always been a searcher and very close to G-d. I’m Jewish but Hinduism is more in line with my belief system. But, I’m always a Jew of course; I just want to put my attention on studying Hinduism. I can be both, right? I live in the US and currently know no other Hindus. This is my personal journey. CZcams has many good videos but I am learning some Gurus are not honest. I could name one of the most popular Gurus. He has several million CZcams subscribers and goes around the world meeting with celebrities. I don’t find this humbling. He rides around on his motorcycle like a rock star. He seems to have tons of money. He has a foundation so who knows??! I’m not saying he’s doing anything wrong, this just feels wrong to me. I want to practice but I can’t be rigid; I need balance in my life. However, G-d or the Universe is everything to me! I’m rambling. I’ll look for more of your videos ❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️
No you can't be both...Jewish religion prohibits idolatry whereas Hinduism accepts it. You will just have to leave your old outdated religion because your abrahamic falsehoods/ fairytales are exposed as each day passes. Hinduism is the ultimate truth. That's why they call it "sanathana dharma" the "the eternal way" because it cannot be destroyed no matter how hard you westerners try.
toughman101 I completely disagree. I am a reform Jew, not conservative. I am very proud to have my Jewish heritage but that does not mean I really practice. I have learned Hinduism accepts all ways people love G-d and there’s no judgment over this. The most important thing is to love G-d more than any way you get there. Love is love! Lord Krishna is all about love and does not judge. I do love Krishna with all my soul. He is the most incredibly beautiful soul inside and out. I love being with Him more than anything in the universe. He has taught me so much and I am extremely grateful for His grace. Hinduism is about
G-d, not idolatry. Hindus don’t worship idols, they worship that G-d the image represents. I worship Krishna but His images remind me of Him. This is what I feel. So I am always a Jew but I follow Lord Krishna as G-d.

Hinduism is a way of life as was manifested in ancient ways as evidenced by Hindu Ancient Scriptures and then Gita is an extract of all these Ancient Scriptures, as it is presented in a sanskrit guide. Yoga as a Health Science for Healthy Way of Living, which later got manifested in several versions, from several Gurus in India, has been presented as several limbs of Yoga Practice.
Since India is a secular country and the liberty to practice his/her religion of choice, has resulted in presenting Yoga as a Health Enhancement Practice, which can be followed by any body in any part of the world, without changing their beliefs or Karma. Like Cricket is a religion in India as a sport, Yoga is followed and presented in the same way , all over the world.

Wasn't aware Depak wasn't crediting Hinduism, I thought he was. I found that guy that did The Secret to have ripped off Hinduisn and these others with CZcams videos talking about their "secret." Another I've long questioned since there is this huge insistence that it's easy to learn and all this but insist you must learn through their licenced instructors, most of them charging thousands pf dollars for how few hours they spend for the total instruction, would be Transcendental Meditation, taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

He does give credit. He doesn’t present these ideas as his own, but in a way a westerner would understand. He does credit the Gita and various other Hindu texts. So I don’t really think it’s fair to lump him in the same group as Deepak

I have a legit question, I’m just not sure how to go about my spirituality. I am pagan, I believe in the Kemetic (ancient Egyptian) Gods. I practice witchcraft. Those are individual aspects of my path.
Hindu philosophy and some of the practices resonate with me immensely, but I wouldn’t call myself Hindu because of the other beliefs I hold. I consider myself Kemetic first and foremost, because those are the Gods that speak to me. Is it wrong for me to practice yoga, meditation, etc.? I see them as tools that can help advance one’s spirituality, whatever path they are on. I acknowledge where the practices originate and would never try to claim they come from somewhere else. I’m just curious and hope to have a dialogue about it.
No, its not wrong. If they help you to reach your optimum potential, do follow it however, acknowledge that what you're practicing (yoga etc etc) stems from Hinduism.
You can call a rose gulabi, rojapoo, mawar, etc but it's going to smell just as sweet. I don't have any complaints about these people... They're good starting points. As these people practice what those new age teachers expound, they're going to feel the need to explore further.... We'll all make it to Moksha, just a matter of time....

As i spiritually awaken i started to think alot of my beliefs coincide with hinduism and i didnt even realize after doing research out of all the main religions hinduism makes the most sense and this is coming from a westerner brought up in the catholic religion

Yoga along with Samkhya together are Samkhya-Yoga system of philosophy, which is a Vedic system of philosophy which means that it recognizes the authority of and is somewhat based on Vedas. Hinduism is the religion of people who usually follow Vedas or regard them as sacred.
Yoga of Patanjali tradition is a comprehensive system but it can be divided into two - philosophy and practice. The philosophy forms a part of philosophical study and practice refers to the exercise and physical work.
So while Yoga is associated with Hinduism, it is indirectly, as both are related to the culture of India. Yoga's having Hindu origins is just because Yoga originated where Hinduism was being practiced and by people who were Hindus, and not because it is some sssential part of Hinduism. Rajnath Singh's post should be interpreted as that yoga is not the essential part of any religion. And even if it is in some way, he said "Yoga 'should' not be connected with a particular religion." This is a normative and not a descriptive statement. Yoga is good for health and no one should be discouraged from doing it, whatever their religion is. That is why it should not be associated or connected with any particular religion, whether Hinduism or any other. Yoga is not a ritual from a religion.
New age spiritual writers/speakers do plagiarize from older religions/philosophies, which is wrong if they don't give credit, but this plagiarism occurs not only from 'Hinduism' but other religions/philosophies/systems as well.

But when patanjali was compiling yogasutras (yoga itself being much older) jainism remains a minor dharma and north is not so much into buddhism.After all jain/buddhist texts dont call their guru as yogeshwar.Krishna calls himself that.Now is krishna something in hinduism?I wonder.
Btw specifically tell me what was in india's culture at the time of Yogasutra/bhagwatgita that was opposed to hinduism?Dont reply with Charvaka.

Westerner here who's interested in religious studies. I have an honest question for anyone out there who has a good understanding of both Hindu and new age ideologies. I'm wondering if someone can tell me specific concepts that the new age movement has likely repackaged Hinduism incorrectly. Being that it is a decentralized movement that doesn't have a core text (like the Gita) and is entrenched in a culture where the free market decides what is most successful (usually leads to what people like to hear rather than what is true), I'm sure there would be many examples. I'm guessing that positive thinking, manifestation, and the power of attraction may be examples?
(to the few other religious studies people who may be here, I'm thinking along the analogy of something similar happening to how the prosperity gospel popular with televangelism was Christian gospel repackaged incorrectly).
Can't answer your question however, Gita is not a core text. There are several Gitas. Hinduism has no one book to bind people into a set of beliefs.

Do you happen to know if there are any Hindu concepts that may have influenced New Age concepts like "manifestation" or "the law of attraction"? (if I think positive and meditate "good vibes" well enough, good things will come my way). Other than a very naive notion of how karma works, my educated guess is "no" since these probably only work in places that tend to only care about first world problems.

I think new age actually comes from psychoanalysis which has occultic influences. And the purpose of new age is to try and make sense of all the religions as one myth that can be used for self-other integration.
However, new age is more on the metaphorical spectrum whereas psychoanalysis is more realistic and more precise as a science.
They are both very tied together though.
I think with more scientific thought we can make greater improvements to both these belief systems.
Thought is supposed to evolve and become more precise. We shouldn't be fixated on beliefs from millennia ago.
I wanna ask , isn't the Science and technology originated outside in studied , taught and utilised without giving credits to West .
