I know the collective mind is a real thing because when I lived in a different culture where a different language was spoken, I became aware that I was outside something real and when I returned to my own culture I remained outside of its "collective mind," so travel not only broadens mind it creates an opportunity to recognize mind as something outside ourselves.

+Rose Evans Okay, a little back ground - I started reading into spiritual stuff about 7 years ago (I am 27 now). I was an atheist before that and a religious person even before that. So finally I started ending up between the middle of two things which I consider to be spirituality. One day I was reading a book called "Transforming the Mind" (forgot the name of the author) and it had a section named "Man, the machine" and another one named "Consensus Trance". The content of these two sections hit me so so hard (at that moment I was travelling in a bus and reading the book on my phone). When it hit me, an unknown smile came to my face. I don't know from where it came but it lasted for a few milliseconds only, I closed my eyes and tried to make that happen again. After several tries I did it again but it again lasted for hardly one second. In the following days, I kept reading more and more and started practicing the same thing in my room without any light. I don't know why but a lit tubelight or bulb was always a distraction for me. Through practice, I reached a point where I could sustain that thing for about 30 seconds. And during those 30 seconds, I would laugh and smile so much (alone in the room and without any reason).
Later I discovered that it was the gap in those thoughts that made me realize my Being (as Eckhart says in The Power of Now).
At this moment in my life, it's all gone. I cannot sustain it for more than a second. I so want to go back to those days again where I could do that. I had reached a point where no sorrow or no happiness could affect me but it's all gone now. I am trying to get back to it slowly. And even now, my mouth automatically gets widened and I start smiling when I sustain it for a second.
I used in those days and I think that was a contributing factor in my ability to sustain it for longer periods of time. Currently I am occupied with family and work and I think they are a huge distraction and I sometimes I think I should start living alone again to reach that vibration.
Long story short, my question to anyone is - Is there a name for this thing? Perhaps it is called Mindfulness or like 'being in the now' ?
      Thank you.

+timestamps1212 It is just a different state. maybe of no thought. for a moment you realize you are not your thoughts and just experience life. then you start thinking how great it is and it is gone. that is because you still identify as your thoughts. you think you have a self.

Rose Evans That's all just pretty talk and fuck all to do with the truth really. The truth is you have no self. Being "present" with your self is a bad second place prize. You're having a nicer dream but that's it. That's cool if that's what you want. If you want to wake up being in the present for a few moments isn't going to do it. Nor will a few hours. Nor a few days.

If you strike a tuning fork to produce a tone, and place another tuning fork next to it, the new fork will begin to resonate at the same frequency. Thoughts are vibrations, they are energy. Life does not happen to you, it is attracted to you by your thoughts and emotions.Overcoming old programming and unconscious behaviour is where the work is. Thank you Eckhart, for the wisdom you impart to help lead us out of the maze of self imposed suffering.

She was my English teacher who silently took favor on me. She though big thing awaited me s a writer. She had the class room write a poem for Fire Prevention Week. Weeks later during class the schools principal came over the intercom, and announced that the winner of the poem contest was our very own Carolyn Barlow. She had turned in my poem, with out telling me anything about it I was totally surprised. The poem was on display in Downtown Houston for a while, and I never got the poem back. She saw something in me, that I never knew I was capable of. Thanks for your writing. You were an inspiration on my early years. Most I ever wrote was a couple of cook books. that I never sent off to print. Maybe one day I will.

I love how he used the bubbles way to describe thoughts in a metaphorical sense. From the understanding that has revealed itself via meditation, thought is nothing more than a series of emanations that only get perceived in their abstract state from your conscious lens of perspective because they resonate with some sort of emotion or reaction inherent within the person. They are kind of like bubbles, they are formless bubbles that have a source inherent in the collective consciousness yet they can be perceived via the level of importance we apply to them. These bubble emanations do not have clear boundary lines and they vary in intensity, but they are formless emanations perceived of by the consciousness to occupy the ego and it's desire to interpret the thought from a POV that emphasizes the importance of the thought and it's relation to your being (which is false of course because the thought only effects the ego, Being is unaffected by the thought).

The heart senses emotional information five to seven seconds before it happens, while the brain senses it three to five seconds beforehand. So not only are emotions important contributors to our output of thoughts, but they may be one of the best ways to influence and create a change in what and how we think.
In 1974, the French researchers Gahery and Vigier, stimulated the vagus nerve (which carries signals from heart to the brain) in cats and found that the heart and nervous system were not simply following the brain’s directions.
In 1983, the heart was reclassified as an endocrine gland when a new hormone called atrial natriuretic factor (ANF), which affects blood vessels, kidneys, adrenal glands and regulatory regions in the brain, was found to be being produced by the heart.
Dr. J. Andrew Armour discovered the heart also contains a cell type known as intrinsic cardiac adrenergic (ICA), which synthesizes and releases neurotransmitters once thought to be produced only by neurons in the brain and nerve ganglia.
The heart starts beating in an unborn fetus before the brain has been formed, a process scientists call “autorhythmic.”
Dr. Armour introduced the concept of a functional “heart brain” in 1991. Considered an independent entity, the heart’s brain is composed of an elaborate network of neurons, support cells and neurotransmitters which enables it to process information, learn, remember and produce feelings of the heart and then transmit this information from one cell to another.
“We observed the heart was acting as though it had a mind of its own and was profoundly affecting perception, intelligence and awareness,” explained McCraty.
According to Goleman, it’s a person’s EQ (Emotional Quotient) that enables them to succeed in life as much or more than their IQ (Intelligence Quotient).
During the ‘60s and ’70s pioneer physiologists John and Beatrice Lacey conducted research that showed that the heart actually communicates with the brain in ways that greatly affect how we perceive and react to the world around us.
Neurologist Antonio Damasio stresses the rationality of emotion in his book Descartes’ Error, where he emphasizes the importance of emotions in decision-making. He points out that patients with brain damage in the areas of the brain that integrate the emotional and cognitive systems can no longer effectively function in the day-to-day world, even though their mental abilities are perfectly normal.

For instance, when we are in a ''good mood'', our thoughts are very different than when we are in a ''bad mood''. This mood is usually experienced around the heart and our faces, it can be felt and is not the same as thoughts. Emotions of joy, happiness, love etc.. give us good feelings and fuel the type of thoughts we'll have.

Eckhart Tolle is the BEST! Excellent knowledge, such a great way as to explain and teach, peaceful, and fantastic humor that helps the learning. LOVE YOU! I would love to go to one of your retreat but when can you come in Canada, in Montréal or Québec city?! Please. Thank you so much.

'Collective mind' implies that it is an actual thing. For description, I prefer the phrase, 'Collective patterns'. They are a matrix of connotations and attachments, an inevitable product of an individual perspective. If one sees that they are not an individual, they cease to identify with 'collective patterns' and grow distant from them.

I am not my thoughts. I'm thinking them, creating them, molding them to my will.

Individual thoughts may be arising like this -Thoughts originate perhaps, when the consciousness masquerading as EGO connects with senses and receives experiences. The more the reception through senses and resultant experiences, the more the EGO try to relate it to them ,generating multiple thoughts.Relating to past or an imaginary future point is developed by habit. This become more cascading when actions of self, others are also included.

There are two kinds of people:
      1) Type 1 keeps getting hit by arrows, and keeps removing them.
      2) Type 2 asks where they come from, and stops getting hit by arrows in the first place.

Where does thoughts/ideas come from? This has been one baffling question asked for millennia. It is really amazing the things we can think of and then what is even more amazing is the action put forth in completing the thought or idea. Before anything can be uttered or done, first there must be a thought which is the original originator of all things created, therefore a much more important significance should be given on this fact provided. What intelligence is it that is behind all the mystery of men who can't even begin to understand his or her own thoughts! We all know that we are extremely powerful and capable of achieving all that we aspire to do in life, it is up to the individual to acquire what he or she wants out of life which was gifted.
