  • I'm camping and fishing a small stream in Colorado with some crazy big fish. Decided to spend a few days truck bed camping in this spot over the July 4th holiday and explore a couple streams in the area. I head to Idaho next and spend nearly 3 weeks camping and fishing all over that wonderful state!
    I'm living in my truck bed camper for 2 months and road tripping through New Mexico, Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming. See the entire series on my channel or other parts below....
    Check out the flies I used on this 2 month trip:

    Other Parts in the series:
    Part 1 Fly Fishing New Mexico: • Part 1 - 2 month campi...

    The numerous powerful big trout…that beautiful overcast afternoon in a gorgeous stream…then some rain…hurrying to the van where a cold beer is waiting for you…and if that wasn ˋt enough you could see a moose…Drew you ˋre living in Heaven!

    Those were some quality fish Drew! I'm always amused when fishermen say to not bother with such small streams. They don't know what they're missing. Stepping in cow manure is just par for the course here in Wisconsin. Especially this time of year, when the weeds and brush along the stream banks make it almost impossible to fish anywhere except pasture streams. I also want to compliment you on the great job you do releasing your catch with minimal handling and time out of the water. Well done.

    I want to get into trout fishing exactly the way you are doing your videos in smaller streams. I dream about what you are actually doing. Camping and fishing way off the everyday beaten path of paid guides and larger rivers. I live in Mississippi so there is good trout fishing very close over in Arkansas. Still your videos are great to watch but disappointing knowing I will never fish a stream like the one in this video. Camping and fishing in remote places must be a wonderful experience. One that I would love to experience but most likely never will. I dream about what you are actually doing so your videos are exciting and fire me up but they are also disappointing at the same time. Keep doing what you do cause not all of us who watch have the opportunity to do so. Thanks for showing me what I would love to do. It keeps me inspired to one day say “the hell with it, I’m going and I don’t care if it hair lips the Pope.” Was planning to go to Arkansas next month to fish and ride my Harley but decided not to. Older now with feet of clay and decided riding somewhere other than to the store or fishing in Arkansas was for younger men. I’m going to Arkansas to trout fish and ride my Harley Davidson around the so called Natural State. Cant experience life if you stay home. I encourage everyone who has a dream of doing what Drew does to just go and do it. We may not know just how to go about it but do a little research, be a little prepared and just do it. Guys like Drew give guys like me, and I suspect many others, the dream of backcountry trout fishing and camping but we say I just don’t know where to go or I have to go by myself. Drew was by himself. Of course he was probably raised being taught what many of us would love to have been taught. My father took me fishing once, it was a pay catfish lake. I am a general contractor who builds houses but I am hands on. I run excavators, track loaders, tractors, can wire a new home but I don’t know where to do what Drew does. It was never taught to me. I again, if you bothered to read all this I encourage everyone who is like me who dreams of fishing for trout to just go and do it cause I am.

Over the past 50-plus years, I've found quite a few spots that could be compared to those I see in your videos. Most of the really good ones I can't fish anymore because fly-fishing clubs in Denver and Boulder moved in and made them private. Your video was the first I had seen that had to do with converting a truck bed to a “camper” and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since. Truer words never spoken! Dang... those are some dandy fish!! Enjoying the heck out of your series..
    What color of fly line do you prefer...? Thanks in advance.

    • @LooknFishy
      @LooknFishy  Před 2 lety +1

      Not really but I like a muted color or a stealthy color...like an olive or wheat. I'm not a fan of bright colored fly lines unless it's in the salt when I'm sight fishing and want to see the distance between my streamer and the fly line to help pick up eats. For example, rarely feel a redfish suck in a fly but I often see the white flare of the mouth open/close bc I'm looking in the right area!

    Dang drew that fish was huge. Was it a cuttie or a rainbow? Also what was your dropper and the size fly that monster ate? Oops I just heard you say it was a cuttie. Wow! What a way to take it easy and relax, look out for the pies.haha. enjoyed the video, until next time.😀👍👍👍

    I know you’ve completely demonstrated that you’re a catch and release guy on the trout in your videos. Do you ever keep a couple trout for supper in a pan on your Coleman stove. Love me some fresh trout in a pan. BTW, I’m a new subscriber to your channel and love watching it. I’ve got my son in SD watching also. One last question, in some of your videos on the streams, your video pixels a lot when you’re focusing on moving water. Is that because of your GoPro or what? Keep up the great videos. Watch them all the time. Thank you.

      Yea, I have kept trout and fish in general but not so much in the last few years. Just got bored with it but I have nothing against it. And might keep a few in the future...just depends on how I feel at the time lol! Appreciate the support...definitely can't do what I do without it!
      Yea, I think it's the setting I recorded on during this trip. I used 1080/60 and the lag is a little behind. On my short trips, a week or two I record in 4k/30 but didn't have the space to save the huge files with 4k on a 2 month road trip.

    • @LooknFishy
      @LooknFishy  Před 2 lety

      Not something I look for when I start searching. But I definitely check it and it can be helpful for timing when to visit or what you might find in a stream. Especially the higher elevations.
