- After rain ended my fishing trip early, I find a remote camping spot in Colorado that had the most amazing mountain view in part 15. I was able to spend some time hanging out on this awesome vista watching the rain move through the area. The day end with me, pan searing steak with caramelized onion, red peppers and potatoes for dinner. It was definitely one of those days that ended way better than I could have planned!

Hey drew, excellent video you don't have to be fishing to enjoy a fishing trip. Slowing down, relaxing, enjoying the views is all part of it. I've had many trips where I was looking forward to a campfire at night just as much as the fishing. I say it all goes hand in hand. It's all enjoyable. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍👍
I definitely missed out on the campfires during this trip but I was fortunate to find some really outstanding camping spots to relax and put things in perspective. I love the adventure and everything that comes with exploring but I'm learning to appreciate the reflection part also!

It’s probably a hunting camp , when the elk are bugling the bow hunters are probably set up there ,looked like some nice spots to glass,

I'm assuming wheel gun refers to the pistol? I'm from the east coast and it seems like many more people carry them out west. Mountain lions? Bears? Mountain folk?
@@benbowman1283 Yes, wheel gun refers to a revolver as opposed to a semi automatic. In the mountain west today everyone seems to be carrying semi autos as they are lighter and more compact. I still prefer to carry a .357 magnum revolver as they are ultra reliable. Should the revolver encounter sand water mud etc. they will keep banging out the rounds.And yes, bears and humans mostly. I don,t really worry about mountain lions. have heard a couple and seen lots of tracks but have never actually laid eyes on one as they are very human shy.

I haven't but that would be an excellent idea. I just rely on my memory now which isn't all that great lol!

What kind of revolver? How do you get your dishes clean? Love to do what your doing. What situations do you carry a gun?
I carry a GP100 357 anytime I'm solo off the grid (I don't leave it in my truck). I also carry bear spray. But prefer a little more protection when I'm alone in areas I'm not familiar. I use my solar shower and clean my dishes away from camp.

Sounds like a solid plan. I film my fishing with a gopro hero 8. I have a nikon d3500 that I play around with for pictures when I'm in camp.

That was the same dinner I made last week fishing the Pere Marquette River in Michigan. How do you find dispersed camping. Also what are you carrying as a bear gun, just curious about caliber.
I just drive until I see some place to park. I check the regulations for the forest service I'll be visiting first to make sure there are no restrictions...rarely ever are. After that it's just about exploring an area! I carry a 357 for bear and pp.
How do you charge your GoPro batteries out in remote areas? How are you able to post vids on CZcams in remote areas as well, do you have a mobile WiFi type of thing? Also, do you subscribe to channels your subscribers have?
I have a marine battery and solar to recharge my batteries. I carry my laptop and external hard drives to store everything. But no way, that I'm aware of, to share youtube vids until you have a solid wifi connection. So I record everything and share it when I get home. As far as subscriptions go...sure I have some favorites.

Camp cooking is the best!! How do you get around state to state laws with carrying?? Not familiar with out west?? Are you always looking over your shoulder when ur cooking in bear country?
I stay in the national forest and check the applicable national forest I will be camping in. Never had an issue and I've been checked by LEO's in every state while carrying. No every bear I've seen in the wild has run off almost before I had a chance to yell hey bear. I make a ton of noise and pretty much just look for sign while I hike to keep aware but I'm not worried about them. If you ever notice my eyes and head darting around while I talk to the camera...I just feel stupid talking to a camera lol!
@@LooknFishy Black bears even with cubs will run off most of the time. I'd be more worried when you get up into grizzly country.
@@rgt321 I know bud but I don't plan for what happens most of the time. I plan for what isn't likely to happen so I'm prepared in the unlikely event it happens. Also note the sidearm isn't just bear protection and I'm not an untrained gun owner...I've had some of the finest training the military and federal government offer plus...I'm from Arkansas we are gifted firearms at birth lol!

@@LooknFishy I do the same thing where I’m at in PA because there are bears and rattlesnakes I figured the hay bear I’ll let the snakes know I’m coming too! Don’t mind seeing the Bears but I do not want to see those snakes!
Only think I can think that would make that view better would be hearing bulging elk in the background

Hey Drew, amazing place. I am curious about your security gear. Can you share what's recommended? I mean security/safety. My boys and I will be going out to Colorado hopefully soon, maybe Oklahoma and want to be ready for any situation. if you can't share specifics maybe a resource? Bear spray, taser, any actual fire arms. Thank you again for sharing your journey.
I live in Oklahoma. I could help with that if you know what part you are going to. Oklahoma, if you divide it into four parts, is totally different in all four corners
@@ericharmon7163 The closest to Austin (where I am) is Broken Bow as a trout fishery. That's the place that keeps us entertained while we can go back to Colorado. Any other place for trout?
@@rafaelzamudio217 you have the Blue river near Tishamingo Ok. It is stocked between late fall and early spring. It is a good fishery but it isn't anything like the Mountain Fork by Broken Bow. It is a more difficult stream to fish by fly fishing. You also have the Illinois River north of Broken Bow. That is a nice fishery from fall through spring for trout. It is much better if you like fly fishing. There are several reservoirs stocked around the state as well. You were asking about safety. I would say the only place to really pose an animal threat is around Broken Bow. There are a good amount of black bears there. The state has about 2,500 total, but most are in the east and southeast of the state.
Well, you can see part of his security gear on his hip while he’s preparing dinner. For myself, it’s a 10mm Glock.

Definitely black bears in the area. But generally speaking I just plan for the worst case so I'm prepared to deal with it in the unlikely event it happens.

How tall are you? I’m 6’1” and have a 5.5’ bed. Wanna try and make it work but wanna get some ideas before I invest in it
I'm 5'10...it's just big enough for me if I sleep more diagonal. I'd do a full bed and sleep diagonal if I were over 6ft.

How long did it take you to design the setup of your camp? Tarp, storage bins, etc. It looks very efficient.
I made a few adjustments before I left and really got it dialed in during the first 3 weeks of my road trip. The last change, losing the huge propane tank, I shared a couple vids back was super helpful! It's made truck camping fast and efficient...no set up or break down!
While fishing deep in the wilderness, how many times have you had to use your firearm over the last 5 years?

@@LooknFishy I am a late entrant (3 yrs ago) into fly fishing so trying to determine how hard to think about having a side arm. I love day hikes and now do it with a fly rod by myself which makes the wife nervous. I want to do the shit you do which is why I watch your channel. Grew up hunting. Okay with rifles, little unsettled with hand guns.
So, trying to understand how essential it is to your backcountry fishing trips. Thank you.
Gotcha...wasn't sure how to respond. It's unlikely you'll ever need a sidearm and I believe spray is the best defense. I carry both and always reach for the spray first! I just can't ignore the training I've had so I carry for my own protection while on the road and in the woods. It's mostly for the very unlikely event I find myself in a situation with anything predatory...bears aren't the only thing that can harm you. But in the case of bears...black bears specifically, the experts say to fight back with any weapon you have...rather than look for a big stick I bring a big bang! But it would be irresponsible for me to suggest anyone else carry a sidearm...that's a huge responsibility and that decision has to be on the individual!

Get a cutting board. You will wreck that skillet cutting on it and end up eating teflon. Just trying to help.
Not really sure what you saw. I use a plastic grey camp plate to cut on, basically a cutting board...not my skillet. Might watch it again lol!
