- I like all G-Wagons, but when I came across this one, that is when I realized those plush $250k AMG ones have nothing on this amazing military spec diesel wagon.
I don't know much about this particular model, except its a diesel, and its one of my favorite engine models.

As good as the G-Wagen really is appreciate, I hated the tasteless rapper/celebrity audience it attracted to make ordinary people think of the G-Wagen as less of a military vehicle and more as a status symbol. To me, it's a bit like forcing a well-talented Prussian soldier to serve a private club of nobles who have never experienced riding horses with armour out to the open.
That is a very true statement
Ion agree fr I think it’s a status symbol BECAUSE of its capabilities. You gotta understand rap and crime really are hand n hand, and honestly the rappers that are actually criminals and rich enough to buy a g wagon probably are aware of the capabilities that’s the reason. Plus the price is jus a flex. . Obviously the aesthetic n interior are gonna draw people but idk. The best part is it is just a standing stone of the Mercedes’ line up . Whether people recognize the true capability, idc. fame and infamy are one in the Same
Well said.
I agree, I hate the wrapper (😉) models and the audience it has attracted.
I always mock "modern" G-wagon owners because most of them won't know what the G stands for.
So, I make a distinction between a Gelandewagen and G-wagon.
I would kill to have this version.
It’s a beauty
Back then, the G wagon was a rival to the russian UAZ. Imagine if all rappers in Beverly hills drove one of those, lmao.
The unbrainwashed (hey look at me and my chrome and diamonds)not trashy bling bling version. How a g should be. Quality, reliable, no uneeded b/s. looks great!!
I think people love these cars the G class jeeps and Hummers when they were famous back in the 2000s is that they have this military look and it brings us to the audience who in love with a military style car it reminds them of power and adventure and I think these are the reasons that these types of cars have their own audience.
Looks great
It’s the perfect blend of country and city.
One of the best vehicles i've driven in the army. It's slow as shit throug a funnel, but it gets you anywere. It will never break down, never gets you stuck. And if it does, mostly, it's the drivers fault..love these things. And yes, battle proven in bosnia, iraq, Afghanistan and wherever it was deployed to roam.
This is the G Wagon I want the most!.
One of the coolest in my opinion
Hey you may want to get a Force Gurkha that's the same body and same om616 merc engine with 2 manual diff locks.
Great video bro
This is my absolute favorite car in the world.
Love seeing other people geeking over it as much as me
Hope to see more of this beauty
I wish there were more stateside
“Way cool” - milspec Gwagon guy
Your G is just beatifull. I have a 123 and two 126 and, for me, this was the best decade of Mercedes quality of building. Your car matches that.
Amazing how its probably from the last century, rugged diesel and still just one turn start, just goes to show how well designed & built mercs were before the 2000’s
Very true
W460 never came with the OM617A (turbo), only the non turbo. Alternator just needs a bit of a rev to get back to life (mine is the same), your truck is missing the front diff, that is actually rare. The idle speed adjust (choke) is for starting in cold weather, instruction of use is in the owner's manual. 88HP is the actual number, but that was when it was new. ;)
Is a turbo varaint swap sacrilegious? 🤣
@@SirDrifto I am contemplating the swap myself.
Depending on where it's from it's not that rare. Austria for example bought their army ones (but they have Puch emblems instead of the 3pointed stars) without the front locker. (No idea why, but our army opted to do so.)
It s a Swiss vehicle, maybe. Duplex chain, only diff lock on the rear axle. They are not so rare.

@@SirDrifto Is this the OM616 engine? I couldn't figure that out, but this engine is still being used on Force Gurkha in India. The car itself looks like a G-wagon to some extent and is one of the most capable offroaders, the engine has been retuned to meet (BS6) EURO 6 norma though. Power production is 91Bhp
Hey you may want to get a Force Gurkha that's the same body and same om616 merc engine with 2 manual diff locks. Its basically the same thing with some modern tweaks.
@sirdrifto
Legend
That mystery lever won't be a choke if it's a diesel. Diesels don't have chokes.
Old (pre-Tdi) Land-Rover diesels had the engine stop where the choke would be on petrol models (they literally used the same lever), so it could be that.
Dang, I always see the g wagons in the Starbucks line and I wonder… if it was designed as a military vehicle… why is it all chrome?
How much do these cost?
It s got 88 horses
Fiesty gall
The fürher would approve
I have the turbo 😉
You can turbo that for sure
good taste
You have a om617 in your 85 Mercedes? Strange. In 1983 they started with the OM60x series.
W123 only had 616 and 617's. 85 was the last year of production.
At least in Europe the 617 was a very common diesel engine in the G-wagon up until the late 80's. That said, a lot of these were upgraded and reengined throughout the years you can find early ones with a 606. The '87 i drove had the original 617 with an aftermarket turbo kit
Can you explain more what that first, metal key is for?
electrial cut out switch
🤤👍
The inside doesn't look like a military vehicle at all... how odd.
you have been robbed it is missing a diff lock
G WAGEN !!! not wagon 😳
