- Why Google Glass Failed... And Why It's Coming Back.
What happened to Google Glass? How does Google Glass work? Does Glass record video and take photos? Was Glass successful? What is Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2? How can I become a Google Glass Explorer? Does Glass us AR or VR in its smart glasses? Why were there privacy and safety issues surrounding the release of Glass? Was Google Glass a flop? Google Glass 2020 may see a revival.
We discuss how Google's Smartglasses tried to for a ubiquitous computer to revolutionise the way we live our lives and how an invention that struggled to get off the ground is now thriving in the manufacturing, logistics, engineering and healthcare industries. Here's How It Happened.

"Eye" pad ?.............
$9999 only for thinner lighter and pro version.
I say "arrggh" to that.
Hahaha
Carrying a GPS tracker, always on microphone, and camera everywhere is creepy? Do these people not have phones?
đ
Just a flip phone with a removable battery :)
@@buckbucker8020 Welp nowadays people are just used to selling their data at this point. Hell, even this account I'm using right now probably has troved of data about me at this point.
Think of the amount of EMF radiation right there up close and personal to the optic nerve and frontal lobe. Air Pod ear buds (bletooth) is bad enough. When will we, the users of technology, wake up to the real, physical, biological dangers of wireless?
"Vegeta, what does the scouter say about his power level?"
Because of the aesthetic when worn, and the "always exposed" camera. Glass would never be successful in every-day/social life. You make yourself look kinda silly and stand out. On top of that , you put off your friends/etc. in social situations , as you are constantly pointing a camera at them.
Its value will only be realized in situations where:
- both hands are needed
- appearance does not matter to the wearer
- situation is in a non-social environment
You're certainly right.
And it seems like manufacturing and engineering is the perfect environment that ticks all three of those boxes.
Thanks for checking out our channel :)
@@HowItHappened Thanks, will do, love the channel
The interesting thing is people tried to pass a breastfeeding consultation app as one of its success cases. Surely you not only want to be potentially filming everything, but also make sure when you do film something it's your own exposed breasts.
That aside from the fact that breastfeeding technique is something you pick up in a couple of days in average so it's a bit of an overreaction to buy something like glass just for that period, so far from being a killer product.
Maybe next time they up their game and create a gynecological exam app. It's just medicine guys don't be creeps jeez.
Sure... b'cos a selfie stick is so much cooler. (smh)
Watching this after the Apple AR glasses announcement đ
Lol same here, Google glas faile because of one thing: IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE, THUS NO ONE BOUGHT IT! The same thing is going to happen with Appl's AR glasses.
In a book by Michael Crichton called "Airframe" he described 'Augmented Reality' glasses that aircraft engineers and builders wore for viewing 3D transparent schematic overlays in real time -- THAT WAS 25 YEARS AGO. In 'Actual Reality' humans are pathetically slow.
That was a book though. What is the problem it is trying to solve if it was implemented in âreal lifeâ?
I remember when they came out and reminded me of DS 9 . The Cardassians wore them in combat .
It failed for commercial use because women complained that people were going to use record them without compensating them properly. I really would have liked to have the Google glass even without a camera, just for getting info and GPS.
I wondered where these things had gone!
They're on the way back!
What is Amanda doing now?
I totally forgot this existed and it's been 10 years holy shit I was 8 years old in 2012
I never believed the hype!
Maybe you should start soon!
Still waiting
Dude, no phone is how you enhance your experience of life. But Google can never see this. Money.

The only reason why Iâd probably get a pair of AR Glasses is for my job. Well, Iâm young and donât have a job, and Iâm still in High School, but I have interests in Robots and 3D Mechanical Design and Engineering.
The thing is that I suck at 3D printing and most of the time my 3D prints fail either because a part is too big or too small in my mechanical machine.
With AR Glasses, I can actually see how big my parts are and how big they WILL be in real-life scale. That way I can plan ahead of time and make changes here and there.
I hope that this tech would get better and better, and that the tech would be cheaper than a mobile device soon.
I donât care how ugly or beautiful the glasses are though. As long as they work!
tbh, i didnt expect a highschooler to speak so sensibly -thx for sharing your thoughts
Why didnt they make it look like actual specs?
I can see why you shouldnt wear it while driving lmao that's a fair point
Glass holes đ

Only reason why they failed is because they cost to Damm much

Hope you enjoyed the vid!
Just gotta jail break one of these
not coming back.. it sucks..
If it didn't have a camera, maybe it wouldn't have failed. I hope that Apple's smartglasses do not have a camera until manufacturers learn how to keep that kind of stuff private.
Some video suggestions...
-Why Android Wear/Wear OS still hasn't caught up to the Apple Watch
-Why Microsoft Band failed
-Why Windows is making a comeback thanks to Sun Valley
-Why Google+ failed
-Why AirPower never made it to market
-Why Microsoft's browser is making a comeback
-Why AMD is beating Intel
-What is the M1 chip
For a channel with "How" in its name, there are a lot of "why" questions asked. đ
Suggestions coming thick and fast. Love to see it!
Iâm sure we can work some of those ideas into our videos đ
@@HowItHappened Yeah, is there a better way to submit video suggestions?
We are looking into starting a discord/reddit in the near future!
the camera had little to do with it. It's just a prototype far too early with limited benefits. AR will be the future not a 2d screen that sits in front of your glasses.
@@cody8860 We don't know what the future will be because nobody can truly predict the future. đ
Apple will make them right
After someone else does, yeah
Stop trying to make Glass happen! Itâs never going to happen!
So much wasted potential
Could you see it making a comeback?
@@HowItHappened With a less bulky design and with no cameras along with better technology and maybe AI integration I think it could come back in the near future
