  • The Rise and Fall of Skype - What Happened to Skype? Why is Skype now a failure? Why is Zoom so successful? Skype vs Zoom? Who still uses Skype? What's the best video chat? Who owns Skype? How does Skype work? Skype vs FaceTime? Why did Skype have so much success? Does eBay own Skype? What country is Skype from? Why does everybody use Zoom? Why is Zoom so popular? Skype vs Microsoft Teams? Skype vs Discord?
    This is the story of Skype's rise from its early, independent days, through its acquisition by eBay and eventually to its current ownership by Microsoft. We discuss the reasons behind Skype's recent struggles and how the likes of Zoom, FaceTime and Houseparty are seeking to overthrow it as the biggest star in video calls. Here's How It Happened.

    It breaks my heart that most people seemingly switched Zoom and other apps when the pandemic started when Skype was the OG. "Skype me" sounds cooler than "let's do a Zoom" or something like that.

      @@HowItHappened Skype is still functionally Superior. People need to stop switching communication programs every 3 years. Someone got gullible women to switch to WhatsAp so that everybody can be traced by their phone number and then to Chinese Zoom with covid. But Skype has a translator and there isn't even a third party translator for WhatsAp. Every app requires a download on the phone

    Unfortunately you forgot a big reason why Skype died. Many, many gamers used Skype to game with their friends but as soon as discord came along and had the best audio quality and the voice detection feature, Skype was obsolete.

    Microsoft has injected so many bugs even in simply logging in and initialize Skype it made me just about crawl the wall by my fingernails today out of frustration when trying to help a friend, she still tries to use it. Full disclosure: I used to test operating systems at Microsoft, the ones that did not flop. Because I was on the job and gave a damn about quality. It's so bad now that it has to be intentional destruction of Skype and/or it could be as simple as the person running that group abhorring Skype consciously or otherwise.

    • @TomM60
      @TomM60 Před rokem

      The last OS that Microsoft had that was useful was Windows 7. Windows 8.1 was a tragedy but no where near as bad as Windows 10. Nothing works right on Windows 10 when it comes to scanners and printers. Half the time my computer doesn't recognize them. When Microsoft bought Skype they ruined that too.

    Well, hundreds of millions may have joined Zoom. I tried it, didn't like it and now it's not on my new computer but Skype sure is. The big problem with Skype now is that Microsoft has gradually ruined it. Some of the features are no longer on the new Skype. I hope those two guys that originally designed Skype get together and design another communication app around the old version of Skype some day. In my eyes, that would be a big hit!!!!!!!
