    On the topic of references, I think Bloomburrow the set is something of a larger reference to children's stories featuring anthropomorphic woodland animals, particularly the Redwall series of books. Mabel, to me, seems to be the archetype of a Redwall protagonist: a mouse warrior wielding a holy sword passed down through the generations. I'm really happy to see Redwall be the inspiration for a set, it looks like it'll be fun!

    I am very skeptical about the power level being high enough in Bloomburrow. I appreciate you approaching it from a more hopeful angle. Let's hope I'm wrong because the flavor and goal of a set where creatures type matters fills me with excitement as someone who has enjoyed Slivers, and Onslaught goblins and beast decks, and even Rebels over the years. I'm inviting hate now. Deservedly so. But here's hoping for some exciting, powerful cards to shake things up. Have a great preview season, Powrdragon. I'll be enjoying your videos along with many others.

    The Bonus Sheet for BLB has been basically confirmed to be 'what would planeswalkers and legendaries who don't show up in the story look like if they came to Bloomsburrow'.

      Problem is, if those end up not being Standard legal it'll be less exciting. I'd rather them appear in the set.

      @PowrDragn Fair, however it's rumored that Jace, the Mind Sculptor is in the set based on a pinfinity leak as either a Standard legal card or more likely on the bonus sheet.
      It does beg the question if Standard can handle Jace, the Mind Sculptor in the format, or would it warp the format again.

      @@PowrDragn I'm hoping we get more of the various characters that we have gotten like in Outlaws with their western versions, but as these medieval animals.
      It's an easy way to put new spins on their mechanics, but it also makes ways to keep getting support for archetypes that could use a push. We already have a decent amount of pirates, but they're so-so, and it'd be easy to just print another pirate that also happens to fall into the decks for critters.
      I think Sorin may be a good candidate for either a Planeswalker or creature, because he'd very obviously be a bat. 2-3 mana for a flying lifelink that generates a bat token and "does X when a bat enters" could fit a bunch of different existing decks.

    Feels like Eldraine and Bloomburrow are perfect settings to mix together for that enchanted story feeling. It feels very Magic to me compared to New Capenna, cluedo and cowboys.
    As for animals I hope to see supported alot I want wolves (and a very good wolf commander, Voja is an elf commander and wolves are just a little extra) and bats. Preferably vampire bats. So that my vampire decks can add more bats to the decks for flavor win.

    • @PowrDragn
      @PowrDragn  Před 2 dny

      I wouldn't expect more than one actual vampire that's a bat. Doesn't currently look like they would fit the feel of the set. And sadly, vampires are just going to lose too many pieces for the moment I think. It would take a lot of new cards in BLB to make a significant differece.

    I would like to see the tri-lands come back for all the color combos but without the land typing, it'd make them less powerful since they cant be used for domain but still allows some 3+ color decks to function a bit easier.

    • @PowrDragn
      @PowrDragn  Před 4 dny

      I'm fine with them being gone and making other control decks the option outside of Domain. But two color combos feel like they would be more than fine. As it stood, most decks using the three color lands were Domain and not much else these days. Or they were only using a copy or two in many cases, because they came in tapped.

    • @dunz-uk4wg
      @dunz-uk4wg Před 4 dny

      @@PowrDragn I agree with that, I only ran a couple copies in my 3 color decks as well, just smoothed them out a bit. I'm definitely fine with them being gone if it forces people away from the Domain control decks.

    @7:08
    An observation, WotC notices market fatigue so each set cannot be the same power level (or escalating power levels). Rather at some point, (pre fire design), Standard sets shouldn’t have the same power levels. Meaning WotC induced slumps so then a few sets later, they can report a strong sale for Standard.
    Do you see this as a pattern that WotC cannot deliver the same power level in Standard (set after set)?

    • @PowrDragn
      @PowrDragn  Před 4 dny +4

      I do not. Not even really a thing that was discussed too heavily when I was there.
      There are lots of ways to make sets appealing without overly pushing the power level. We've seen that several times. A set like MKM just missed the mark on lots of angles.

  • @MrMurraypants
    @MrMurraypants Před 4 dny

    Garruk needs a comeback. He would be perfect for this set. Also, I was thinking about how only oozes and rats have an "any amount" in your deck ability, maybe we could add another creature for standard like this. I'm thinking squirrels...like in the Johnny Depp Willy Wonka movie.

    • @PowrDragn
      @PowrDragn  Před 4 dny +1

      Nah, squirrels already have several cards over the years that contribute to the swarm mentality already. Possibility it makes some old stuff ridiculous. I'd rather it be attritibuted to some new type that doesn't get that much love.
      But Garruk as a bear could be interesting.

    I guess power creep of the mtg nowadays is a threat that could ruin the game by itself one day. Vote for mid-level power level of upcoming products, glad to see it by you, nice point.

    One thing I would like to see in Bloomburrow is returning to Cycles ... instead of hastily releasing new sets, sit and actually let the story and cards meld together over the span of three sets and perhaps the fanbase would also!

  • @Mr_Jumbles
    @Mr_Jumbles Před dnem

    I gota agree.
    I would love sets to be more mindful of their synergies with previous (and even future) sets rather than just tons of individual cards that keep the level of power at an unsustainable level of creep.
    We can only continue to power creep this game to a point until it actually ruins it mechanically.
    I don't mind triome lands, but whoever had the gigabrain idea to make them count as BASIC should be fired. It shouldn't be just as easy to play a Domain deck as it is to play MONO RED.
    Also dear god yes please NO MORE SWEEPERS! It's already the least fun mechanic in the game. 1-2 every set for 3 years IS INSANE. CAN WE PLEASE STOP MTG?!

  • @JoaoTakada

    No way creature decks will stick with the ammount of removal in standard unless it's a turn 3 kill, rotation wont do nothing to black since they keep printing removal , lets see how many anoying black cards they release in Duskmourn "black themed" set

    • @PowrDragn
      @PowrDragn  Před 4 dny +1

      Creatures deck still do fine now, even with all the removal that's available. I've been hitting mythic with creature decks. I've even put up some creatures decks that are rotation ready, playing aginst current stuff. Also, nothing I've seen says that Duskmourne is "black themed". Even with what we've seen so far, red, green, and white have all gotten some interesting cards.

  • @Stormy42232
    @Stormy42232 Před 4 dny

    There's not enough time between bloomburrow and duskmourn. Free to play players on arena won't have enough time to get most of the cards

    • @PowrDragn
      @PowrDragn  Před 4 dny

      That felt like a concern previously with the Innistrad sets and with MLM into OTJ but people seem to have navigated it fine. I think the biggest thing is simply going to be the number of decks you try to build at once. If you want one to three, probably. If you're trying to build more than that, it's going to be a struggle.
      But in all honestly, FTP games don't prioritize that. Trust me, I'm way behind on Marvel Snap as they prioritize time in their game even over money. Just the model they use. I'll very likely never catch up in that game.

    • @Stormy42232
      @Stormy42232 Před 4 dny +1

      @@PowrDragn I think the time between OTJ and bloomburrow has been just about perfect. I've been able to get pretty much every card I've wanted (except big score) and still had time to save up gold for the release of bloomburrow. I'm hoping with that saved up gold it will compensate for the shorter time between bloomburrow and duskmourn. I would like to be able to save some gold for duskmourn.

    • @PowrDragn
      @PowrDragn  Před 4 dny

      @@Stormy42232 For general sales, content, Standard format variety, etc it's a bit too long. They learned along ago that 4 sets was the sweet spot (3 new sets and a core set). They were just spaced out roughly 3 months apart.
      We're getting the same thing (4 sets), but the gaps have been different because of a non-standard sumemr release in the middle. Likely to be this way for the foreseeable future.
      Either way, if you've been saving gold, you'll likely be fine.
