Archenemy sounds like a lot of fun. I am glad they are introducing this to a new generation of players.
It's an interesting way to play. The adjsuted rules make a bit more sense than what used to exist.
I’m the consumer they’re looking for. Going to buy a box of foundations when it releases.
A lot of it will depend on the cards in Foundations. As someone who prefers Aggro strategies in Standard to play. I'm not a fan of Day of Judgement in Standard. I can live with the 4 mana wraths with a downside in Standard, but Day of Judgement and Wrath of God were a bit too good back in the day.
Day of Judgement will practically replace Depopulate in White/x control decks and maybe Domain if it's still around
pretty sure they said foundations will be ~50% reprints and new
In my point of view, MTG Foundations is actually well thought.
Core Sets were actually scrapped because of the fact that, in many occasions, they printed the same cards over and over just for the sake of keeping them legal and that had repercussions in sales in the long run because less would buy these since it will be the same cards. But, on the other hand, it was great because new players and veterans alike would be able to have some cards as a constant feature in Standard as well as for developers because they could use them to either dump cards that would be scrapped because they never fit into the Standard sets themselves or were simply not added into those because of space in the sets being tight already (with many of these ending up in the Commander Precons instead which honestly is a terrible fate since they tend not to be designed for Commander and neither for Legacy/Vintage (the only constructed formats they will be playable) at all but for Standard and Pioneer. That's why I always said that one of the best solutions to help Standard is to make most cards from Commander Precons that are directly associated with Standard sets actually Standard Legal)
So the idea of having something, that allows developers to put cards that wouldn't fit in the Standard sets and those cards that would be otherwise dumped into the Commander Precons, while also, by having it legal for 5 years (which means that the cards would not need to be reprinted into Standard for a long time, which cause Core Sets to be scrapped in the first place), is a amazing idea in itself. Of course this would be even better if this set gets updated from time to time (once every 2 or 3 rotations at least) with new cards that go in and many that go out since they wouldn't be needed to be printed into Standard (for example with the first release, we're getting Lanowar Elves, with the Update we remove it and instead put Elvish Mystic). Similar to how the MTGO List works
I %100 agree with you. I am not so sure about the five year life span of it, but I like the idea of a set that is similar to a core set.
I like foundation in theory. It could get out of hand fast.
Sweet. I like the idea of 2 headed giant but its 3v1. As long as they balance the 1 player's mechanics.
Does Llanowar elves being legal hold any potential with Voja in standard? Or do people think we need more elves and another good wolf (possibly the elemental from Bloomburrow)?
If you're playing elves, you play it. If you're playing any green based aggro, you're probably playing it.
@@PowrDragn I was really surprised that they are reprinting Llanowar Elves. The lack of a turn 1 mana dork has slowed down green based aggro a lot.
Foundations will be printed to demand or this new system won’t work
The key to it is keeping it affordable. If they jack up the price, it won't be worth it to anyone.
It will...to a point. Everything has a cutoff point in the printing cycle. It's just a matter of where that point is. Likely wouldn't be less than 2-2.5 years. After that, what's in the distribution system will be what's out there. Likely will just be based on the velocity of sales. And with a lot of it being reprints, probably won't need more than that.
@@PowrDragn I imagine they will make the starter collection and beginner collection available till 2029 being the best starting point for new players. Again it all depends on how well it’s received and if I can generate increased interest in paper standard. For arena it’s a home run.
Well, I'm on the fence about all that. On the one hand I like that some of the core stuff is making a comeback but on the other hand I feel like rotation is slowly getting fazed out. Rotation is what I like about Standard and I'm already not liking the 3 yr rotation schedule.
It's not being phased out. The core four releases are still on a 3 year rotation. And it's honestly been good. But regardless, WotC wants rotation as it's good for business. They are just having to find a middle ground that is appealing to the most players willing to try it.
Did they say Foundations was supposed to be entry level? Or is that just speculation?
Not sure. But I'm personally speculating based on the branding, how it's being presented, it's positioning, and stuff I know from my time at WotC and conversations with folks.
I haven't really played Standard since ELD [Simic Flash].
Both Bloomburrow and Foundations interest me for different reasons. I love the cosy, anthropomorphic animal concept for Bloomburrow. This has been massively popular in both the boardgame and video game space for a long time, and initial impressions are favourable.
Foundations is an interesting take. I like the idea of on-boarding new players but I do wonder if it will be a bait & switch. The power level will be in the sets, and unfortunately the vast cost of a deck are in those rare / mythic chase cards.
I will be intrigued if WoTC include a land cycle in Foundations.
Like yourself, I love the concept of the familiar but did scratch my head at the inclusion of Omniscience.
It also took me a while to get my head around the different time periods (3 years rotation and min 5 years for Foundations).
Nevertheless, I'm down for some Foundations precons to introduce friends and family. I own Duel Decks, Challenger decks etc.
Will WoTC properly support Foundations, and can they resist shoving Commander cards in ostensibly non-Commander products.
Imagine they put Shelly on foundation 😂
I doubt it, but anything is possible.
Do you think they're gonna have the balls the balls to put the basic lighting bolt in the set? I think it would be fine
Probably not.
I heard it was 50/50 new/old
I tried to find that somewhere, but nothing I found confirmed percentages.
@PowrDragn darn...I hope it is 50/50 I like reprints, even if they are not great. I think the best thing WOTC can do is add cards that help create the actual pioneer format up, even if the do a pioneer masters set
@@lightninglotus1151 After the push back they got on Runeclaw Bear and other reskins as "new" cards they got in M10, could see why Wizards would be hesitant to state specific numbers or percentages of old vs new designs.
@_Max_Fan totally fair, the general mystery of new to old cards is probably beneficial for WOTC anyways
