It’s always cool to me to see CZcamsrs revisit old videos and takes either for a good laugh or to re-evaluate what they said and address them as their present selves. 2. You actually feel differently and have grown into a different person/content creator and can give us different opinions on these things and even tell us a bit about how you felt in that moment as opposed to now. 3. You have a bit of a behind scenes look at how you thought about generating content and engagement 4. I had no idea the backlash for certain videos ever got that bad. That’s the dark side of CZcams or social media in general most people will never see because their platform is nowhere near as big as yours but despite what you may have done to rile them up it sounds like they went too far. Call me crazy but I think kakegururi is like Sherlock Holmes. The reader/watcher isn’t supposed to be afraid for the protagonist but be in awe of how they use their wiles to outsmart their opponent.

    • @Ceighk
      @Ceighk Před 2 lety +30

      The tension in Kakegurui doesn't come from whether Jabami will win - she WILL win. It comes from the fact that she doesn't actually care about the consequences, she just enjoys the thrill of possibly losing. Ultimately, she can't be trusted not to put all the people who depend on her on the line just for the thrill of it, to keep pushing the stakes higher, and potentially to fuck them over if it makes the game more interesting for her. Yes she ends up saving the day, but she does so because she's an addict, not a hero, and therefore can't be wholly relied upon.
      (Some versions of Sherlock Holmes also take this approach, so I think the comparison is apt, there's just more to it. It's also notable that they are both ostensibly from the perspective of a relatively passive character who is swept up into the actual protagonist's world)

    Your piracy discussion gave me flashbacks to when I had an entire argument with my high school economics teacher about why piracy is fine actually. I personally disagree with some parts of what you said about piracy (at least what could be picked up from how you put it, you obviously didnt go into too much detail), but I also only pirate stuff that literally isn't available elsewhere unless you buy it from Apple or Amazon or whatever, and in the cases I do pirate I know getting it legitimately would help corporations more than creators. I also make sure to spread word-of-mouth about anime I like because I want as many people as I can get to know and support good anime. I have the same thought for games. Why would I buy a game that's out of print for a thousand bucks that all goes to some random nobody when u could just... get it for free? Glad to see the channel's return! This video offers some great insight on how someone who's been in the CZcams game for long enough can change their style and behavior, not to mention the absolutely horrible side of dealing with hateful comments. Everyone always says they can brush aside the hate thanks to seeing all the great comments left by others, but the Jojo debacle (which I had been completely unaware of) can prove that it can be hard to do that sometimes.
    Others have already made the same comment about turning away from the mics, but there's also the occasional overlap of voices due to the way the mics are pointed. I don't know how manageable this is in your new apartment, but the Dead Meat Podcast's old setup of the two facing each other from across the table (i.e. mics pointing right at their mouths but away from each other) seemed to work really well for them. They also have a cat who likes getting up on the table while they record, so you'd even have room for Bobby and Junkrat to interrupt!

I buy media when the service meets my needs and makes me feel like I actually own it. Streaming sites come and go as well as routinely lock away stuff that didn't used to be premium (looking at you CR). This is really interesting to watch from a production perspective. Understanding what drives engagement is an important aspect of business, especially regarding online content creation. I also enjoy the “then and now” ideas and arguments put forth. Generally I prefer Geoff’s polished content on the main channel, however the informal vibe and brainstorming model presented here are both very rewarding.
    It’s a bonus to see two people interacting in a way that is productive and healthy as well. This conversation is very different than the types of conversations I’ve had with my bf for the past two years roughly. The way both people’s inputs are organically received and reacted to is very refreshing. I knew my current relationship was on the way out, but this really hammers home what I could have had, but didn’t as a result of clinging to a dying, destructive relationship.

    My favorite anime is Mob Psycho 100, which is amazing, and is about as close to perfect as an anime adaptation can get.
    But my second favorite anime, which I know is absolute trash, is "The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat", and I have no idea why I enjoy it so much, but I absolutely love it, despite many of it's very obvious flaws.

    As someone who has pirated a lot of anime via torrents in addition to buying a LOT of physical media and subscribing to multiple legit anime streaming services, I was really confused at first about you mentioning being "wrong" about pirating while standing behind the bashing of the pirate streaming sites. I watched and LOVED your "How Much Money-" video and remember agreeing with you on virtually every point! Seriously it's one of my favorite videos you've ever done (outside of the amazing anime-from-a-cult video series). But then I guess the really "bad take" video was one that was taken down before I ever had a chance to watch it. Well, I suppose I'm both sad and glad that I didn't watch it while it was up. I'm happy that you've developed a more nuanced view on media piracy!

    reasons black clover is like blue exorcist: there are two twin brothers who are orphans raised in a church. the older one is taller, handsome, calm and quiet, and is conventionally talented and powerful; while the younger one is short, loud, extremely physically strong, and his power is extremely unconventional and relies on the power of a demon that they are related to. both brothers are members of an organization where they have to climb the ranks of knighthood to reach the top (even the ranks themselves are basically identical), with the younger brother getting stuck with a band of misfits, and the older brother getting to rub shoulders with the eccentric powerhouses of the upper ranks of the org

    @EdgeyvonKarma Před 2 lety +4

    I mean, as a Black Clover fan, I think your video about its first few episodes was entirely fair. It was a poorly paced adaptation of a manga that honestly doesn't hit its groove until like the second or third major story arc with a bunch of production issues that hadn't been figured out, an inexperienced lead actor who was overdoing it to the point where it was a legitimate reason to drop the show, and a hype machine from Crunchyroll that only served to magnify its flaws all the more. That being said, I'm happy to say that both the manga and the anime hit its stride and it's a very fun action romp as long as you don't think about the setting and lore too hard.

    There's a lot of facets to it, and I think a lot of fans are assholes about it, but in general, I have been exposed to more stuff and bought more physical media because of my piracy.
    Since current trends are about lost media, I repeat the same things I did back then, which is that people should buy physical more often and keep physical media...

    Hey, welcome to Alberta, it kinda sucks, but is also kinda great at the same time. It's weird here. We have a lot of Jeff's, seriously, every school I've ever been too and every job I've ever had, there's always been at least one other Jeff. Clearly you have to change your name, there are too many of us. ;p
    On another note, it's cool too see you look back and talk about regrets and stuff. While I'm sure videos like this are less popular, I personally think it's really good to see. In terms of Reki, personally, I've always thought he just got famous too early. The original SAO was... meh, but it was a really cool concept stuffed into a format that didn't suit it. Then he got super famous without the time to really develop as a writer. At least that's my educated guess about why the Alfheim arc exists. Having read most of his SAO stuff, I do see him improving as a writer, especially with the Progressive books. Is it amazing, no, but I still rather enjoy it despite it's flaws.

    I am most comfortable criticizing things I enjoy, because analyzing things is part of the fun. The key there is, the analysis has to be accurate, otherwise it annoys me. I enjoyed a bit of Mother's Basement content, and for a while I completely lost interest because of how obvious it was that you were looking for reasons to complain rather than explain.
