Also Spoink is worse because, 1) the big ass pearl on its head can fall off whereas Grumpig's are attached, and 2) if the pearl does fall off, then it loses its balance and can't bounce anymore. Its life is constantly at risk
Pokemon which are obviously wearing clothes have always made me uncomfortable. It's one thing to say these "pocket monsters" are smarter than regular animals, it's another to suggest that they're sentient enough to feel self-conscious about exposed genitals.
The Bible only says that Adam and Eve had eaten of the fruit of knowledge of good and evil, and that they then became aware of their nakedness and felt ashamed.
Never once does it say that we humans were the only ones to do so.

I love Popplio. They're wrong with that one. Most of the others didn't bother me much before but now I'm thinking about it and it's making it worse.

Y'see the thing about Gardevoir's species is that their psychic abilities make them the _absolute perfect Waifus._ Because, from the moment they are caught, they have the ability to feel what their trainer needs, and use that knowledge to protect said trainer. After they fully evolve, the descriptions state that they're willing to use their entire psychic power to break dimensions or create artificial black holes _just_ to protect their beloved trainers.
This makes lewding them excusable for many, because that level of care (and the fact that Pokémon are, for the most part, basically sentient) makes it extremely likely that if you asked your Gardevoir to have sex, they would potentially say yes for your sake before you even ask. The whole Gen 4 thing about how people used to marry Pokémon only made that worse. So basically: Gardevoir's design isn't inherently the problem. It's everything around its lore that made it basically the actual most lewded Pokémon of all time (Maybe that changed, but it's still top 5, easily).
Oh yeah, it's lore is 100% the cause. Cuz the design itself doesn't really lean into lewd territory.
Like it's no Lopuny at all, and if not for the dress it prob wouldn't even feel coded female.
But that lore, psychic, crazy powerful, obsessed with you, that's the making of a yandere right there. And the internet loves a good pure hearted yandere

Hmm, personally I'm not uncomfortable around Lopunny? (I mean I'm not blind, I see the problem with the initial design) Three reasons!
1: Buneary is the hardest 'mon to raise with Friendship Rate, because its original Friendship number when you catch it is 0. You could die that this thing wouldn't give a shit, so you really have to earn its affection for real.
Which I think is kinda hilarious, given that Lopunny isn't that great of a 'mon unless you're a trickster, or have fun with the Mega.
2: Again, the description. Lopunny's stated to be primarily defensive, and if you try to do anything to it, it kicks you with enough strength to basically send you flying several meters away. Like I just love the contrast between its cute/horny appearance and pose with the fact that it could kill most humans in like three kicks.
3: The first Lopunny I ever raised was a male. I found that _absolutely hilarious_ and have been raising Male Lopunnies every gen I could ever since. Usually just one, since they're pretty hard to use without the Mega. Kind of an inside joke with my bro, too, because his main is a male Gardevoir, and we both discovered much, muuuch later than both the 'mons we liked were two of the absolute most lewded creations of all time, and apparently we're spawns of Satan for daring to have their male counterparts in our teams.
Oh yeah, bonus 4 (but that one is because I like looking for lore in games): The Mega's description states that Lopunny taps into its long-gone instincts and sheds its extra fur to turn itself into a battle-hungry maniac. This implies that there was a time where Lopunnies were just that. This, itself, implies that at one point, it evolved to look more cutesy and more appealing from a human perspective. I kinda find that idea fascinating? Like, what the hell happened, did humans become so monopolizing that the species decided "Oh, it's prolly better to look cute for them not to think of us as dangerous until they get too close"? If so, that's one hell of a nicely hidden statement about the switch in design philosophy leading to Pokémons getting progressively cuter and less monstrous as the Gens evolved. ← That's just an interpretation, of course, but seriously it's kinda cool.
Hitmonlee is literally not at all what I thought would be chicken nugget.
I think, in the pokemon world, clothes are designed based on the pokemon. Though the champion belt machoke and machamp wear is a macho brave I believe. A lot of the pokemon world mechanics are glossed over because it's all told through the perspective of children. The pokedex entries are the observations of children. Pokemon arceus really puts that in perspective.

One year later, might as well comment: Hitmonlee's hand do, in fact, stretch. This, however, only happens specifically with Bruno's Hitmonlee in the Adventures manga. So it CAN happen, it just needs special training
I love Mr. Rhime's Charlie Chaplin inspired design. Its a really cool reference that goes as far as making his shiny monochromatic to match the classic comedies that he starred in. Personally I think its a lot less uncanny than Mr. Mime mainly because certain aspects like the hands and face don't stand out as much to me
Nosepass/Probopass mustaches are "furry" because they are really magnetic shavings, like Wooly-Willy.
vanillite's line are actually icicles that cover their faces with snow and mist that just happen to look like icecream
The "is it flesh???" confusion is why I don't like Sylveon. It's adorable but then I have to realize it has a large bow made out of its own flesh. Is it skin?? Is it intestines?? Is Sylveon in pain all the time from the bow bouncing around when it moves??
IIRC Throh and Sawk have a symbiotic relationship with the Sewaddle line, the Throhs and Sawks protect them and the Sewaddle line sews them their clothes

One thing about Hitmonlee baerly anyone knows is, his Legs are Springsprings?
Google says its Spring Spring, weird.
Whatever, its shown in the manga and it looked so weird. Allways thought there are ropes.
Both Hitmonlee's arms and legs stretch like you would stretch a spring before retracting. The Adventure Manga has a bunch of really cool shots of Bruno's Hitmonlee in particular one where Bruno is standing on top of said Hitmonlee who has its arms stretched out to both sides over a waterflow as it uses its feet to fend off attacks
Tsareena isn't a kiwi, the line is based on mangosteens. Also, Swanna isn't balding, it's design is inspired by the outfit worn by the dancer for Odette in Swan Lake. Grimmsnarl's not an Ultra Beast, it's a regular pokemon. It IS a dark type and based on an imp tho.

also 36:01 in the anime for black and white (the game that these two came from) the blue one is seen tightening his belt and can take it off. so at least the belt is clothes (and the black belt item can be found on them i think in game? if not sounds like a missed opportunity because black belt is an item so... basically theres an explanation for the belt but it only opens more questions)

Normal Type is so weird to think about, especially these days, because for a long time that type was kind of considered the Cute Type, and then Fairy came along. Now, Fairy is the Cute Pokemon type, with them being all pink and stuff...so I'm at a loss on how to describe Normal. They're, like, the Basic Type, I guess? The type most like actual animals? I got nothing.

Trubbish and Garbodor are absolutely freakish. HEAR ME OUT.
IT'S NOT THE BAD DESIGN (I do, personally, hate the design, but this will be unrelated to my personal feelings).
It's the same reason the ice cream pokemon are freakish. Again, NOT anything to do with bad design.
And that reason is the same reason Voltorb and Electrode are freakish.
Now, to begin: Grimer and Muk are mutated lumps of toxic sludge. That could, theoretically, be a result of extreme toxic runoff mixing with some kind of slurry of proteins and like, some amoeba or something. At least, within the logic of the world of pokemon it could.
But Trubbish, Vanillish, Voltorb? What the hell is the reason they look like that? What logical reason would they have?
Any creature that is a replica of a real-life creature has a reason to look like that. Evolution (real-world style, not pokemon style) naturally adapted to that. So of course it does. Evolution (again, real world style) gave it that form in a natural process.
If it looks like a real-life OBJECT then things get screwy. There are two reasons to mimic something else in nature.
1.) By being visually similar to that thing, you will be safe. This... Makes no sense for all three of the above. Trash bags are regularly ripped into by scavengers or thrown into garbage trucks and crushed. Ice cream is literally just food that everyone fucking loves to eat and will eagerly devour. Pokeballs are a constant thing that almost all people want more of (and they're very easily sold for a buck or two if you're not a trainer. For their tiny size, you'd be a fool not to grab a working one and bring it with you).
2.) By being visually similar to that thing, you will have more opportunities to *eat the things that interact with that thing*.
... Get it now? They're traps. Everything eats something. Those pokemon eat something. What do they eat? Alley meowth that won't be missed? Unsuspecting wingull swooping in for some free ice cream? *People?* Not like the pokemon series will ever tell you!
They left out the worst part about Mr.Rime: the red thing on his belly and the yellow "buttons" look like an extra face on his stomach.
Also, I wanna throw in Mega Mewtwo Y. Specifically the feet. It's like they sawed off its actual feet and glued some eggplants on the stumps.
I saw a jump cut! I thought there were not supposed to be any jump cuts :P
On the topic of eating pokemon, they make explicit statements about eating some pokemon, like grilled magicarp, tauros steaks, and boiled krabby. I think oddish and some grass types are eaten as produce, i think exceggutes? Etc. Also on the thing with probopass, the beard is iirc iron fillings gathered up due to its magnetism. Its not part of its body, just a clump of magnetic sand essentially polarized and clinging to his magnetic body.
13:25 Can you imagine a Hypno cosplayer, but the way they "dress up" is they wear a helmet of its head, got the coin on the string, some fur around the neck, and YELLOW BODYPAINT
mr. rime is a lot better (or worse depending on how you view it i guess) when you look at it as being the 2 kids in a trench coat pokemon, the "buttons" on the coat are just a huge red nose and 2 yellow eyes that blink in the games.
also when you discussed lucario i can't believe you didn't bring up how its mouth is underneath its snout
What I dislike about Incineroar is the fact that he's the last evolution of Litten and Torracat. You could have gone in a lot of directions after Torracat, but seeing my beloved firecat turn into some huge, macho fireguy was just fucked up...

Personal theory based on the lore drops I've seen in game.
Pokémon are conceptually similar to Spren from the Cosmere. They are entities based on the nature of human perception of the world. Which is why certain pokemon only start showing up in history when the concepts they represent do, like Voltorb, Magnemite, and Klink.
They are even subsets of gods created by other gods.
The lore fits.
Just saying.
They are just more tangible.
I'm sure you guys got a ton of these comments, but Junkrat is sooooo cute!

It's a shame not many people played BW/BW2. It is actually one of the best Pokemon games imo cause they really went out of their way to make a lot of things different from the usual formula and made a bunch of QOL changes (skippable tutorials for example. Putting difficulty changes at the end of the game and only for one version was kind of weird though). The spritework was great too. Black and White 2 were actually full sequels rather than the exact same game but with some new stuff. But they didn't do well so they just zipped right back to the old formula. They made an entire 150+ new Pokemon, so of course there would be some misses, but it's really a shame that that's what people focus on. Some of my favorites include Volcorona, the Litwick line, the Solosis line, Zorua, just a bunch of them.
Marshtomp simultaneously looks dead inside, that he's been through a poké war that involved all the starters becoming near extinct and that he had to watch his fellow brethren die in his arms while crying for their trainers waiting for a pokéball to bring them to a pokécenter that will never come and that he's peering into the depths of my soul and judging me for all the wrong doings I've committed and all the wild pokémon basically dead I've left in my wake as I force him and his fellow pokémon to battle for my amusement
To be fair, if Miltank DIDN’T have udder jiggle physics animations, fans would shit on it even harder than the trees in Galar

I have ADHD and I find type matches and such permutations easy to process, and somewhat exciting to remember. But sometimes I misread and mispronounce stuff just like you, Yazy.
The inability to keep complex interlinking patterns in your head might be a specific issue you might have; everyone with ADHD has unique challenges due to their personal interests and profession. (My greatest problem is qualifying for exams and interviews and such because I don't learn in the neurotypical way)
It's all fine, just talk to a mental health expert about it. ❤️

Ive been out of the loop on pokemon since Gen 4, and then I looked up Alakazam and sought that Mega Alakazam exists, Im like WHY DOES HE HAVE HAIR IN THE SHAPE OF THE HUMAN BEARD!!! Like yea where is the line?
Personally the pokemon that makes me most viscerally uncomfortable is dusknoir. It's a cool design but my first introduction to it was Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and the whole dusknoir story arc just fucked me up. There was also a reasonably creepy anime episode involving it and a ghost girl that I first watched as a kid. While dusknoir wasn't actually malicious in that episode I still associate it with bad vibes.

So, few quick things! A good way to learn type match-ups is in a pseudo competitive matches. I learned so much from facing friends through the years.
Also, the reason Ghosts in Gen 1 was not that effective is that because they were also Poison Types. That should balance out to a neutral damage or outright negate it, but it was just weak to Psychics.
I'm with Geoff on most things, especially Drampa. He's a big, cuddly dragon grandpa!

Chicken nugget ... Diglett? I guess? It's the only pokemon I'm familiar with that looks oblong and featureless enough to count.
Edit: Oh, Hitmonlee. Huh. I don't see it. Too many features.
I will say, I am not a big fan of Popplio, but I am a fan of Brionne and Primarina.
For the type matchup weaknesses, most of them actually make sense if you think about them;
- Normal is only weak against fighting. I like to think this is because a normy isn't going to beat a swol.
- Fighting types are weak against flying types because they have the high ground (Also punching birds is tough), psychics (brains over brawn) and Fairies because physical is never as strong as magic.
- Flying is weak against rock because you can take out two birds with one stone, Electric because of obvious reasons, and Ice because there is a reason they fly south for the winter
- Poison is a little trickier. I'm not fully certain why they are weak against ground.. Maybe because even if the world is covered in poison, the ground stays relatively the same? And they are weak against Psychic because either mind over matter, or Willpower is often considered the best medicine.
- Ground is weak against Water and Ice because of erosion, grass uses the ground as nourishment.
- Rock is weak to fighting because fighters often break stones, or concrete. Ground (earthquakes)/Sandstorms destroy buildings and break rocks, Water erodes rocks, Steel is stronger because once Steel is stronger and started to be used over steel for weapons once they were invented. Grass and trees tend to grow through the ground, and will even break apart rocks to grow.
- Bugs are eaten by birds, crushed by rocks, and are often burned with magnifying glasses.
- Ghosts are weak to themselves for two reasons. Both are incorporeal and can hurt one another. And "There's nothing to fear but fear itself". Dark I'm not fully certain of... but I think it is because there are many lores of Demons that eat lost souls.
- Steel is weak against Fighting because with enough force, even the strongest metal will bend (man over machine), Machines tend to stop functioning as intended when sand and rocks clog their gears, and an intense enough heat is what shapes the steel to begin with.
- Fire gets put out by water, rocks, and dirt snuffing out the oxygen.
- Water nourishes plants and helps them grow, and Water conducts electricity.
- Grass is weak against Flying since many birds eat seeds and other plants, poison wilts plants, bugs eat plants, plants wither and die in the cold.
- Electricity is weak against ground because it grounds the current.
- Psychic is weak against the most common fears, because it interrupts the ability to think. So bug, ghost, dark.
- Ice is weak against Fighting because fighters will also train by punching through blocks of ice. Rocks and Steel easily shatter ice with enough force. Fire melts Ice.
- Dragons are weak against Ice because reptilian creatures are cold-blooded, other Dragons because only another dragon could be a match for a dragon, and Fairies because they are the protectors of knights in fairy tales.
- Dark is weak against Fighting because people need to learn to overcome their fears and power through them. Bugs often use the cover of night to move around. And fairies are often considered as the bringers of light.
- Fairies are weak to Poison because fairies are considered a source of purity. So if they become poisoned, they are no longer pure. As for steel, I'm not really sure.. I think it's because steel because of Clarke's Law, "Any sufficiently-advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
As for strengths, that a whole other thing that I don't want to go into right now.

Fairy is weak to Steel because of iron being a commonly-stated weakness of fairies (and similar beings) in a lot of older fey myths.
