A no talking video... the demo tracks on the Roland VERSELAB MV-1 are so well put together it seems a shame that only owners will get to hear them. Also they're a great way of showcasing its abilities and sound. I've annotated with info for most of the tracks.. So enjoy the tracks while you learn what it does :)
All the cool kids, awesome dudes, synth lovers and general nice guys (and gals) go here :)...

this thing sounds really clean and polished. i'm not a singer but with the finished quality of these tracks and a mic input, this thing is kinda next level-ish.
Mr Carr, we need another 3 Versealb videos from you Pop, Funk and Club. We do deserve this.
I like you approach to showcasing the Verselab - different angle... SOUNDS upfront n centre.
.. 'SLAP' .. there you go.. sounds awesome.. argue as much as you want about spec lists, display size, no faders, limited synth engine access but it sounds great...
Oh.. and um.. it SOUNDS GREAT.
..plus the XLR mic in a vocal processing....( pitch correction and harmonies ) :)
Agree completely.
Watching this video as I wait for my new Roland Verselab MV1 to be delivered and I am now even more excited to create music with this machine. Great Video!
amazing demo songs and excellent video
Really great video. I wish more people would do these demo track play throughs. It's very helpful.
I love the way you explain the instruments🎹🎛️🎼
I just ordered mine yesterday. It’s back ordered. Can’t wait to get it tho...
Excellent demo! 👍🏾👍🏾
Hi! Stellar video to understand and apreciate this instrument. Great
Can't wait for MV-2
Or MV Pro.
I highly recommend playing some of the parts in with a keyboard. It can all start to sound a bit loopy if not!
Great idea for posting this. I hope folks understand that these are just the demo projects in the factory content. You can actually load them up and see how they were put together, what patches are being used, etc.
I hope so too. I mention it at the start and in the comments... and throughout the video... I hope nobody thinks I wrote them all!
I think there's a LOT of value in doing it this. So many videos start of diving in and making tracks or tweaking filters, etc. That's too soon. Let's HEAR what this can do inside the factory content and THEN go onto making your own stuff. Bravo.
I can see why you made this video. These tunes are like perfect little flower miniatures. Oily and sweet.
This is most definitely on my next level of purchases....plus add my saxophone tracks, it'll be 🔥!
This is a cool format. Sometimes it's nice to just read at a leisurely pace and actually hear what a piece of gear can do. Do you find the screen and menu diving impedes the creative flow, or is it totally adequate and intuitive? I'm loving everything I see about the Verselab so far and it's got what I want on paper so it's really going to come down to how it all flows in use.
I’m playing with it a little more before I decide. When you first get it there’s a steep learning curve... how do you select a sound or edit a tone.. why is there reverb in the voice, can I flatten the pad velocity ... where’s the solo... etc etc. And I think that’s to do with my traditional workflow. Jumping in and trying to do things. But once you know where everything is it starts to flow.
It sounds real good
Hello Everything is fine?
Would it be possible to program voice effects in "Pad's"? For example, programming the "Radio" effect in Pad-1 and pressing it turns the effect on and pressing it again turns the effect off?...
I'm convinced!!! I want this! I'll trade my Maschine plus for this!!!!
I don't want to be that guy mumbling into his drink at a bar. But I liked the video.
Haha not sure how to take that. Glad you liked it anyway. I’m off for a mumble 😂
If correct, the verse lab has 8 bars x 16 which totals 128 bars. Is one able to compose long orchestral epic type backing tracks exceeding 8 bars?
Is there somewhere I can hear (or request to hear) the acoustic piano sounds in this box? I want to get one as a modern sound module for my piano, but a lot of the sounds listed in the manual I'm unfamiliar with and would like to hear what the acoustic piano samples/presets sound like (like the AX PIANO or NOSTALGIC PIANO).
I think they’re the same as a selection from roland zenology. Just not fully editable. If you find a patch list - there should be one in a manual somewhere - then download a free demo of zenology you can play them.
Can you edit these demo tracks as a sort of starting point while learning?
So I treat it as 6 tracks + 16 external synth recordings, while synth is driven by a 7th midi track! :)
Can't you choose preset from Zenbeats yet or only can tweak the preset? (i assume they will do this and maybe pattern edit from ZB moving forward)
It’s more flexible than it appears. Each of the 7 tracks can be eg a drum track with 16 samples. Or all synth sounds, or there could be a mixture of synths, samples, drum kits and loops... all variations of which can have 16 audio tracks on top. There’s a lot to dig into. As I don’t want to make any errors if I upload a review/demo I have to look at everything or at least get all the specs exact. So all taking longer than I anticipated. Lots to explore. Zenbeats is very limited currently - just selecting clips and sections and tweaking mixer and FX settings as far as I can tell.
@@StarskyCarr Sure thing, you answered lotsa use flow questions by showing! I just meant 6 tracks + reserving 7th to drive analog synth and record back to vox track. Looking for the mighty standalone flow VerseLab + Synth (midi/audio) + ZB (usb). Sure they will expand ZB for VL or other way around VL controlling actual ZB DAW, or hybrid of those in the future. So the future's so bright, .. gotta .. study nuclear science :) I mean, integration opportunities is the bomb here! TNX!
Yeah, sorry just trying not to misrepresent as I’ll get grief from others ;) hopefully better integration with zenbeats will allow for tone and sample editing - or tone selection. All those bits that require a lot of scrolling through lots of options. I’m sure it will come as the platform seems to be growing all the time.
@@StarskyCarr Interesting, so you can sample your external gear pretty seamlessly to accompany sections during the song construction?
@@ShawnyDsMusic Yes.. that pretty much the whole point (with vocals). So you could play a constantly evolving drone, or continually tweaking analog synths etc over the top. 16 recording slots in total... and you can play all simultaneously... but with a limit of 720 seconds mono 380 stereo. which isn't bad!
Is it possible to record syncronized step time sequenzes on the audio tracks by external analogue Synthesizers?
Do this Verselab have an "undo" button?
Can I easily chain different loops making songs?
Can I do songs only using drums from Verselab and the chords, bass and leads from external Synthesizers??
Could I connect Verselab to an I pad to go around the tiny display issue?
Please would really appreciate a feed-back before I potentially purchase the Verselab...👍🏻
These are important points
All will be answered in a couple of days in my explanation video. I’m working through lots of questions so will include these.
@@StarskyCarr Thank you very much. Have a nice Sunday👍🏻
So far.. yes, no, yes, sort of but only using audio, yes, coming soon :)
Nice demo, Peter from Roland Verselab MV Users Independent Users on facebook.
Fuck. Hip-Hop with the ROLAND!!! Amazing man. lol.
geez, Tides sounds damn good. geez
How does this compare to the MC-707 and MC-101?
I’ve never used them sorry. But I’ve read they have a shorter sample time, no count in, different onboard presets (these are more trap/hip hop/ Latin-Caribbean influenced) and the big one is the lack of vocal track.
geez. Nonsense sounds like a Johnny J/Tupac beat!
Just brought one .. yeah sounds great .. but one bad problem .. moving to the next song .. correct me if I’m wrong .. but huge delay silence while waiting to load next wave file ..Shame that Carnt be overcome some how like preloaded so u can go straight into it
The only way I can think is to buy a second one! This is a definite negative if you're using it for live work and want a constant flow from track to track
It does have a quality sound, I think. Almost too smooth. If I heard a track made on this I feel as if I would be able to peg it as a Verselab production right away.
The zenology sounds definitely have that Roland sound.. I suppose that’s what they’re showcasing. The more samples you use though it’ll obviously start to take in dofferent characters. I can imagine people using something like Splice to download loops and drop them straight in etc.
I don't think anyone takes a Verselab, records to a .wav, and sends it to Distrokid. Once tracks are done, you're going to split all the channels into a DAW, and send those stems to your engineer to clean up, possibly with your own enhancements before doing that. Maschine demo tracks (for each Maschine Pack) sound exactly like this to me too, so I know what you're talking about. Just think of most unmastered music as unfinished, except in rare cases where the producers are a) really lucky / naturally-inclined, or b) engineers on some level. I can't imagine ever mastering something with just this or Machine. They're too limited, but it's good that they focus on the creative cycle. I want one!
Till it gets used as unintended then the magic happens
Thanks for the video. That's made me decide not to bother getting one. It doesn't look like you can actually do any music on it. That's a shame. I was just about to order one, then saw your video. Cheers, it's saved me more disappointment. I was only looking to hear a demo of the drum tracks. I'll stick with my Roland 06. 😎👍
Typo @19:26
Haha ... there’s always a typo ... and I only ever find it after it’s uploaded and live!!
How do they make this thing with an emphasis on vocals, but add screen smaller than a stick of gum? Such a dumb choice.
Roland give you so much with their current groovebox family, but these factory demos are going to date quickly. I can't decide if the Zencore stuff is just a greatest hits of old sounds, or whether you can actually do anything new and original with these boxes. The MV-1 makes it less easy than the MCs (101 and 707) as you can't edit the preset sounds, though they're good quality, but tend to be cheesy, and there are lots of patches which are very similar to each other. The demos sound like generic 21st century pop music, very forget-able. Sections on the MV are really just a simplified version of Clips and Scenes on the MCs, you gain one thing (sequencing sections) but lose others (clip repeats and chaining, re-use of clips in scenes, live switching of clips and scenes, etc.). The vocal track is the only real USP of the MV, though they're so cheap second-hand now that they might be the best value zencore sound module you can get. But for songwriting, I think you need to come to the MV with the song already written, as it's not really designed to let you jam out an arrangement, or experiment with different combinations of parts, sounds or mixes, as it doesn't have the performance controls or editing flexibility of the MCs. Not really my thing, then.
are you kidding, roland? only r&b ballads??
Too bad the demo relates only to a musical style which is absolutely not mine.
I tried to be objective and watch the video but I admit: my nerves gave way and my eardrums ran away screaming in fear.😊👋
I think they're going for a particular market... having said that here's something I put together that has a more live feel. czcams.com/video/LsPApLuJvEk/video.html
@@StarskyCarr Ha ha ! Thanks for the vid & music.👍
Haha my man buy a second one why the fcuk didn’t I think off that lol… quality problem solved will save my pennies
$700 for a lil’ box, tho.
haha.. yeah but its bigger than some other $700 lil' boxes :)
knob turning for days on that little ass screen... one sound at a time ......
sounds all the same, imo.
Used to make rap - with a silent c.
lol, Why do these dorks feel the need to down genres they don't like? Maybe just keep it moving and shut the f up? It's exhausting.
I got offered one of these for free by a friend who owns a studio and I turned it down.
The main reason is that hideous two line display.
That display will take you to menu diving hell and back and there's no way I would sign up to Rolands cloud just to use a editor for this mediocre product.
My recently purchased 15inch ten point touchscreen OLED laptop with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD kicks this device to the curb and ridicules it.
The rap sounds are wack
