    People just don't understand how good the Verselab sounds when put your tracks through the mastering effects. Roland have done something special with the audio path on this machine, it just makes everything sound fat, warm and amazing.
    I'm never selling my Verselab MV-1, I know I've got something special and unique.

    People are always surprised at the sound quality I get out of the MV-1. It's stellar. Every instrument can have an effect or an effects chain added on to it. This is a deep sequencer. But, like he said, it was hard to learn at first.

    In the Section Select under SEQ mode.
    It is actually possible to change instruments for each section.
    So it is not limited to 7 instrument tracks at all.
    Just 7 instruments at the same time.
    In each of the 16 sections you could have 7 different instruments.
    Just that on drumtracks you will be able to use different drums and on instruments, different instruments.
    Its pretty deep and hard to explain these things, so that is one problem why people dont understand it.
    I reccomend the Free Roland Academy Courses for the MV-1 to get the most out of it.
    I was dissapointed in some aspects because I had other expectations from the videos I had seen.
    But i decided to learn how to use it instead.
    The vocal effects and mastering options are great, I even recorded acoustic ukulele + vocal through it.
    The mfx effects are awesome too.
    And the sounds are realy good.
    Before I got it, I wanted an 808 style unit, vocal processor and some other units, that Verselab has all of it inside and for less price.
    Plus mastering effects.
    So its a keeper for me and has helped me with a lot of production.
    Acoustic Bass sounds are crazy good and a lot of others too.

      I have the Verselab as well and I absolutely love it. The sound quality is sublime and having an mpc one as well, the mpc couldn’t come close as far as quality goes but like I’ve said in other forums, you can’t compare the Verselab to an mpc or any other machine for that matter. It’s in a whole new lane of its own as to what is was designed to do for artists and until you’ve actually spend time with both machines, it’s hard to compare them. I would also like to point out that the Verselab was not hard to learn at all compared to learning how to use my mpc one (if you would like to compare them like that) but they are both great machines for what they are but if your looking for the one machine that does a little of everything, then the Verselab is it. The mpc is a better machine for people who want to dig deep into chopping samples up.

    I'll tell you exactly what this product is. This was supposed to be a real MV but partway though development some exec at Roland came down to look at the projects and said we're spending too much money developing this and we need to get our quarter 1 earnings up or it's going to look bad. So the engineers cut back on their goal take what they have and downsize their plans into this little box and Roland dishes it out as the MV1.

    NGL I bought the verselab cuz I love the Roland sound, but I also love the workflow of an MPC. But... After the Verselab, I barely even touch my MPC anymore. Unless all you're doing is sampling, the Verselab was just easier to use and as straightforward as it gets. And you don't get lost in the big screen like in the akai. It's just more simple and easy to theorycraft songs and finish, or bounce it to a DAW for detail work. I got the MC-707 and the MV-1 together. And I enjoyed em so much, last week I picked up a Fantom too. I think at this point I love akai but I'm now a Roland Fanboy.

    Another cool video, thanks for laying some insight on this oddball machine!

  • @zapmando
    @zapmando Před rokem +3

    It's funny once you got to the rpg metaphor I realized why I like this thing so much. One thing with the verselab is yea you can change presets for all the tracks per sections and effects. Also you can change those 7 tracks to different track types. You tone track for synth and bass and chromatic one shots, you got drum kit track types where you can load up like a drum kit but the samples can be any thing you can have 7 of those at once with 16 samples to each track and you can set those three knibs to control different parameters on the fly for each track. Of course you might use all the memory first, but you might not. Then you got looper tracks, you can have 2 of those and the loop is chromatic on the pads. And you can record samples and loops and vocal takes from external or internal mic/li e but also directly from any of the tracks or a complete mix down. You can mute tracks by holding mixer and pressing the track. In drum kit track types you can mute sequenced data from individual pads by holding the note button and pressing the pad you want to mute or bring back into the mix. This is good for auditioning section parts to add variety to the mix down.

    • @zapmando
      @zapmando Před rokem +2

      The 3 knobs with assignable parameters and having 7 drum track types setup withb16 samples each gives this thing a little bit of an SP type of workflow. Sometimes the parameters you can assign to the knobs change depending on what multi effect you choose for the track. For live performance effects you can set up 2 or more drum kit track types loaded up with the same samples but different effects and parameters assigned. I've just been brainstorming workflow with this machine and am still curious about getting an sp404 mostly for skip back and ease of resampling.

    Its not the best sampler, but as a sequencer and quick beat maker, its great. It still needs some updates like add a tempo tap. Some simple things can be confusing to figure out, as the menus are hidden under more menus, and you also have to hold shift along with certain buttons to do certain things.
    But for the amount of sounds alone like the classic 808s its almost worth it just as an instrument.

    Nice video. I have yet to figure out what the MV-1 was supposed to be. It’s not a MV-8800 or MPC. There is some overlap with the MC-707. Generally you target a customer for a product. I believe Roland has in this case too but I can’t figure out who it’s for.
    128 step sequencer is ok for some but not enough for me. There isn’t enough differentiation to the causal shopper of why this unit over a MC-707. You look at this unit and decide that it looks great but I’ll just get a MPC (or a Maschine, Korg PA4X, Kurzweil K2700, FA-06, DAW or whatever) because I know what it’s supposed to do. Most folks have an idea what they want to do with gear before they buy it.

  • @bobbylucas13
    @bobbylucas13 Před rokem +1

    I still don't know who this is for lol... Is it like a beat machine for singers? Most ppl are going to go for an MPC One or SP404mkii for this price. Now if Roland made a suped up SP with features from this they'd be onto something.

    • @DyReckProductions
      @DyReckProductions  Před rokem

      Yeah I feel you..Its in direct competition with the One and the Sp.

    I still don't understand what Verselab is or what the hell they really wanted me to do with it. I mean, at first it seemed like a really, really complex karaoke machine for wannabe American Idol contestants. But to be fair, I got a bro who rocks this thing with hot hot joints.

    • @DyReckProductions
      @DyReckProductions  Před rokem

      Lmao!..They aimed it at the wanna be super artist..But it actually has some cool production features..Wish the screen was bigger though.

      A lot of folks like the keybed of the akai force..The isomorphic pads..And Akai is always up to date with the latest for there hardware..But if it ain’t broke why fix it some might say.

      Its like they made the editing garbage on purpose. Like they can't make a dial move something faster. Probly to force ppl to buy zencore sounds. Sneaky sneaky.

      Responding to myself lol.. Like how you gonna design "okay/decent" sample editing on the sp404 mkii... Then on the Verselab suddenly have no idea what you're doing? C'mon Roland!! Lol..

    If this thing had a bigger more useful screen I don't feel like it would get so ignored. But Roland seem to be allergic proper displays on their gear, lol
    I've got to be honest though, I thought this was a weird product from Roland. They released the MC-707 a few years earlier, and the SP-404 MK2 the same year, there's too much overlap of features

    • @DyReckProductions
      @DyReckProductions  Před rokem

      Yeah if it had a bigger screen it would have made a different impact.

    • @JasonHader

  • @illyph9963
    @illyph9963 Před rokem

    Yea this thing has nothing on original, the original was really innovative at time, cause most back then, myself included would use a combination of an mpc, and a Roland vs-880 digital recorder, or something similar to actually dump beats to, and lay tracks, but when they dropped that original mv, it was like they put the vs-880 “in” the mpc, and made them both 1 unit, which at time, would save a musician $2.5k lol I wanted one so bad back then but was already was set up and couldn’t afford to just switch for fun lol
