      Honestly the way the umpire (mis)handled this was embarrassing. "He's cheering for him". Wtf is that supposed to mean? If that dude's cheering for Basilashvili in a way that is also disturbing Kachanov the umpire has to do something about it. But no, for the umpire Kachanov should just "ignore him". Yeah, why don't you try ignoring a loud sweary peasant while you're playing a tiebreak, see how easy it is...

      @psyclops973 Před 2 lety +12

      I honestly think that umpires should be given specific instructions to punish players a lot harder when guys like Kyrgios, Paire and Putintseva start insulting them.
      For example, Fognini has a bad habit of asking umpires "are you drunk?" every time a call goes against him. On situations like those, there should be literal zero tolerance for direspect and disgraceful behaviour, and a point penalty should be immediately awarded for such cases.
      There's no other sport where players are allowed to act like that towards the referee. For some reason, in Tennis players are allowed to badmouth the umpire several times before being given the very first warning. Punishment should be a lot harder: you direspect the umpire in any way, you immediately lose a point and you're fined. If that was the case, players like Paire, Kyrgios and Putintseva wouldn't be able to turn games into complete shitshows.
      It's a weird sport: nobody is allowed to make a single noise during play, as form of respect towards the players, but players can get away with things that would result in immediate suspension in other sports.

    Props to Sandgren for calling himself out. He knew he had done the wrong thing and was willing to accept the punishment like an adult.
    Compare that to when Ostapenko threw her racket, hitting a ball boy in the face. She first lied, saying the racket slipped out of her hand despite the fact that she was nowhere near the ball, and then, even after getting off lightly with just a penalty rather than being disqualified, she threw a tantrum and argued the penalty like a child unable to accept that she had done anything wrong.

He was fine before Karen started provoking him. We couldn't hear what the umpire was saying to Karen, so they guy didn't know the Ump was on his side. But if you know the Russia/Georgia history, there was no way they guy was going to let Karen get the best of him. So he started overemphasizing his cheers. I understand it but I hate the rule that if you hit a line umpire you pretty much automatically get defaulted. Obviously not saying players should be able to hit them, but the line umpires are in pretty close proximity and its clearly it's an accident in 99 percent of cases

  • @MrMartin48705

    Karatsev has just come to expect too much from himself I think. Ffs, he beat Djokovic in Belgrade, I mean, I'd expect too much from myself too, but I think Aslan is back to being inconsistently good and that's about it. Dunno if he will manage to find any form over the next year, but it was nice seeing him mix it up a bit anyways. His style and tactics are really only suited for him if he manages to be consistent af, and he isn't at the moment, with his agresiveness and attacking plays relying on hitting the best shot possible, I would really go for a change come next year.
