PCUSA's Future Looks Bleak (Why It's Dying)

  • The PCUSA is meeting in Salt Lake City. One agenda item is about requiring those seeking to be ministers to say they will perform gay weddings. The PCUSA has lost 2/3rds of the membership. Are they trying to lose the other 1/3? How did the Presbyterian Church USA arrive at this state? And should you remain a member.

I remember the great schism, I left PCUSA then, and I remember when they said Gay marriage wouldn't be required, just allowed for certain churches. The pastor at the time, also left the church, said the exact same thing. That which is tolerated will become accepted and then, eventually, become required.

So true sir. You could have taken almost everything that you said and changed it from pausa to any of the other collapsing mainline denominations. Bless you and your words of wisdom.

I feel like the writing was on the wall a log time ago about this, and also - United Methodists that are hanging on while disagreeing with their General Conference decisions shouldn't trust that the "conscience clause" is going to hold there either, despite what bishops and the like are telling local churches.
Presbyterians do have other options as far as denominational affiliation - the PCA for the most conservative (does not ordain women) and EPC and ECO otherwise.

Just to add, the other Presbyterian denominations are as far as I know, strong on Biblical fundamentals.

As far as I know, any church that started ordaining women any sooner than about 1920 are racing into apostasy. Some, like the Assemblies of God, started with women ministers - not changing as the world demanded and they have been decent, as least for now. Keep praying for the lost and deceived.

I'm currently reading thru the Bible with the Catholic podcast - Bible in a Year with Father Mike. Father Mike always offers comments at the end of the reading that offer insight into cultural and historical considerations. Having a better understanding of scripture as a whole has done wonders for framing my thoughts and improving my spiritual life. I think you are right when you mention many Christians have no idea of what the Holy Book really says.

How about reading the bible for yourself? Before you start, pray ask the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth? The promise of the Scripture in John 16:13 is the Holy Spirit leading you into all truth. As for the Catholic podcast do you know what Catholic Church believes? You might want to check that out.

Perhaps you should read the church father's writings and discover some early church history.

They are the ones who brought in the false doctrine along with advocating eliminating those who did not agree with them. Please tell me. Can you recall a place in Scripture where Jesus instructed His followers to kill someone who did not agree with them? If you think a Priest who believes Mary is a co- redemptrixi and the Pope is god on earth is a better teacher of scripture than the Holy Spirit please continue on. I ask you to forgive me and I apologize.

After years of serving as an elder and adult Bible class teacher, I left PCUSA four years ago. The rise of LGBTQ-affirming beliefs within the denomination helped me see clearly the many practices of the PCUSA church that are, in fact, inconsistent with the Word of God. Serving on a committee to hire a music director, I was forced to self examine: How could I rightfully stand against hiring a same-sex married music director when I would not object to the many other manmade traditions being practiced and sins going on in the church that are inconsistent with the Word of God? They are there. If you know scripture and have an honest heart, you will see it. I encourage all readers to seek fellowship with a church whose members call themselves Christians (not Presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, etc), and who faithfully strive to be the Christian church you read about in the New Testament. Let there be no divisions among us. (I Cor 1:10). Blessings.

Do not cry over the collapse of apostate denominations. This is a blessing. The faster they collapse, the better. The Lord said, "I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" (Matt 16:18). The Holy Spirit convicts of sin and righteousness and judgment (John 16:18). The Spirit commands, "Come out of her, my people so that you will not share in her sins or contract any of her plagues" (Rev 18:4). The sheep hear the shepherd's voice; they know their shepherd, and they follow their shepherd (John 10:27). The sheep will not follow a stranger's voice; they will run from him (John 10:5).

The PCUSA is consequently correct, in their theological error.
If the novel Christian theological opinion of double predestination is true, then it follows that individuals have no sufficient freewill, outside of God's efficient determinism, to repent or amend how they are fashioned.
Hence, there is no real freedom to act in any contingent image and likeness, of his or her own efficient Creator, for good or for evil. Thus, God predestined some souls to good, and some souls to evil, contrary to their individual will and His "eternal goodness."
So why bother repenting, or having any vital change in spirit (nefesh), if "God made me this way," that is, if you hold fast to double predestination? (Ezekiel 36:26, 2 Peter 3:9)
As ugly as it may appear from the outside, these are the theological implications and consequences for departing from the one, holy, universal, and ecclesiastical church that Jesus Christ established. (Mat 16:18, 2 Thes 2:15)
