    Once again your vids are improving my game, but now comes the bittersweet moment where I must tell my opponent that their house rules include a blend of 1941, the Hazbro misprint copy of 1942, and tournament standard 1942 2nd edition. I've still had tons of fun but those IPC changes, and zone placement differences DEFINATELY explain my UK fleet's vulnerability during Germany's round 1 move.

      Bridging friendly troops could be added as a house rule, but that would skew the game toward the Allies. If you were going to add it, you would need to give some balancing advantage to the Axis (Maybe Wolf Pack: subs attack at a three when attacking with more than one sub and/or Dug in defenders: Infantry on Islands defend at a 3.)

    New to the game (1940 Europe 2nd ed) and your video clarified and transport situation that luckily I could fix before continuing(even if its solo :) ) So basically if I got this right. Transport from Quebec, Canada picks up 2 units, the transport is in zone 106 (Naval Base) so it has 3 spaces. It can reach UK and the 2 units can unload on that turn. Hoping for a response. Thanks for these videos. Helping a lot.

    Hello! Thank you for this series!!! I have A&A 1940 Second Edition and i'm still struggling with this question: can I unload a transport in different territories from the same Sea Zone?
    1) As a part of a double Amphibious Assault: for instance attacking with one unit Egypt and occupying with one unit the undefended Palestine.
    2) As a part of a Non Combat Move.
    NB: In my opinion only about floating bridges the rulebook states enough clearly that the cargo must be fully unloaded in one territory.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for watching!
      I am fairly certain that this is true for every version of A&A, once a transport have offloaded it is done for the turn. A single transport can not drop off troops into two different territories in the same turn. They can pick up from two different places, but once they stop to offload, that ends their movement for the turn.
      I hope this answers your question. Let me know if I can be of further help!

  • @louisdesy781
    @louisdesy781 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Note: In the first print run of Axis and Allies by Nova Design; transports were 0-1; zero attack and defended on a one and could be taken as a loss in naval combat; this lead to problems in that fleets would be 'protected' by a blob of transports that could not be destroyed since their lower cost would usually result in the opposing fleet being eliminated while only losing a few transports that could then be cheaply replaced.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Před 6 měsíci

      That's correct. Unfortunately, that rule set wasn't particularly realistic. Warships should be protecting transports, not the other way around. I'm pleased that this was corrected in later versions.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching!
      The answer to your question is no. A tank has to be in a land territory that borders the sea zone it is going to be picked from and once it is dropped off it can attack or end the turn in the new territory. It can't move before or after being on a transport.

    I'm a little lost because at the beginning of your video you stated that land units end all their movement when they embark a transport regardless if it's for amphibious assaults or noncombat movement, which is also what the rules say. So why are you embarking and disembarking in the same move in your examples halfway through the the video? It's contradictory. My understanding is that the land unit must wait until the next turn to disembark

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Před rokem +4

      Thanks for the question!
      A transport can load once or twice when it moves, but it can only offload once. Once it drops off its cargo, it has to stay put for the rest of the turn.
      Land units can't move and board a transport on the same turn. It has to start the turn in a land territory adjacent to a sea zone. Then, it can hop on a transport, be moved as cargo by the transport, and be offloaded into combat or as a non-combat move. However, once it is offloaded, it can't move again.
      Apologies if I wasn't clear in the video. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

    If there is a uk transport in sz 13.
    Can Germany move a cruiser through sz 13 from sz 12 into sz 14 and ignore the transport.
    But then move a fleet from 23 into sz 13 to kill the transport?

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Před 3 lety +1

      Great question! Thanks for asking!
      If I am understanding correctly, the answer to your question is no. All the combat moves are happening at the same time. You can't say, "I am moving this unit. Then, this unit." They all move at the same time. So, if the Germans decide to attack the transport in SZ 13, they are treating the zone as hostile and this would stop the Cruiser from moving through during the Combat Move Phase.
      Now, if the German's intent is to make a non-combat move with the Cruiser from 12 to 14 after the transport was destroyed during the Conduct Combat Phase, that is no problem. Or if the Germans ignore the transport and they can move through the SZ at will.
      Here is an easier way to think about this: All Combat Moves are issued and executed at the same time. All Combat in the Conduct Combat Move happens at the same time. Then, all Non-Combat move orders are issued and executed at the same time. So, if the player has a choice to treat a SZ as hostile or friendly, they are making that choice during the Combat Move Phase and that affects everything that would try to get through.
      I hope that help.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes. You can end your turn with land units on board transports, but this is not typically recommended. If the transport is destroyed, the land units on board are also destroyed. The land units can never defend during a sea battle. They are only cargo. So, it is usually best to leave them on land rather than on transports whenever possible.

      Transports can move 0, 1, or 2 sea zones, pick up a maximum of two units (any land unit and an infantry) anywhere along the way and drop them off. The units can't move before or after interacting with the transport. After dropping off units, transports can not move again that turn.
      I think the term bridging a term is that is much more confusing than it is worth. It refers to a transport moving units without changing sea zones. For example, moving units from the UK to France. A transport can pick up units in the UK and drop them in France without moving. All the same rules apply. They can move the same number of units in the same possible combinations. The units can't move before or after being on the transport and the transport can only ever drop off in one place.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching!
      The rules for Transports in 1940 Global are the same as they are for 1942.2 (with the minor exception of the "at war" rules surrounding moving friendly units). Your transports can move up to two sea zones, picking up units along the way and offload them anywhere it can reach. Once it has offloaded, the transport can make no other moves this turn. As for the land units that are getting on and/or off a transport, here is section of the rules that clarifies that issue: "Loading onto and/or offloading from a transport counts as a land unit’s entire move; it can’t move before loading or after offloading." (bottom of page 32 in the Pacific 1940 rulebook)

    I've been DYING to have this question answered!
    Can you move a transport one space, then bridge? What about two spaces, then bridge?
    If yes:
    Can a transport go into a hostile zone with warships, conduct sea battle, THEN bridge in an amphibious assult in the case of victory at sea? I voted no in a game with my buddy, but he thought yes. In the end, we didn't allow it, but that was one question I've wanted to make sure I was correct about.

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for watching!
      Ok. People have been using the term "bridging" for decades and it is way more trouble than it is worth. The thing is, "bridging" isn't really a thing. Transports can load and/or unload, that's it. The most common usage of the term bridging is to describe a transport that moves units from one land territory to another without changing Sea Zones, but this maneuver is no different than any other move by a transport.
      Still, this term frequently confuses players. Some think they can do this while in a hostile sea zone. Others think that they can move an unlimited number of troops because the transport isn't using any movement - it is just creating a bridge. Not so much. The fact that the transport doesn't change sea zones doesn't alter any of the other rules regarding transports.
      I hope this helps clear up your first question. Your second question is a bit more straightforward.
      All combat moves have to be announced during the Combat Move Phase. That includes any loaded transports making any kind of amphibious assault. Players can't send in warships first and then send in transports if the attack is successful. They all have to move together.
      Hopefully, this is helpful. Let me know if you have any further questions! Thanks again for watching and I hope you have a chance to subscribe to the channel!

    In 1942 second edition does it take two hits to sink an aircraft carrier?

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Před 2 lety +1

      Some people add that as a house rule, but carriers in 1942.2 sink with a single hit.

    Do infantry and tanks count as defense for a transport?

    • @BoardGameNation
      @BoardGameNation  Před rokem +1

      Good question. While land units are on-board a transport, they are considered cargo and have no attack or defensive capabilites. Worse, if the transport is destroyed while carrying land units, the land units are also destroyed.
      I hope this helps. Good hunting!

      It was something I said in my first video and it kind of stuck. I made a video a few years ago and didn't say it and got loads of comments about it. I guess it is part of the brand now.
