- IDPA DIARIES: First IDPA Match
IDPA: The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA), founded in 1996, is an organization based in Berryville, Arkansas, USA that promotes defensive pistol shooting as a sport, using equipment including full-charge service ammunition to solve simulated "real world" self-defense scenarios. Shooters competing in defensive pistol events are required to use practical handguns and holsters that are deemed suitable for self-defense use. The sport came about as a response to many perceived shortcomings of competitions organized by the International Practical Shooting Confederation IPSC. It was decided by the founders of IDPA (Bill Wilson, John Sayle, Ken Hackathorn, Dick Thomas, Walt Rauch and Larry Vickers), which included some of the founders of IPSC, that IPSC competitions had become too far removed from the reality of defensive shooting situations, using extensively modified guns, handmade ammunition, and speed-draw holsters that were impractical for self-defense. The IDPA founders believed that IPSC matches had become "gun races," which were heavily dependent on equipment. That is, you had to have the latest gun, sighting equipment, and competition holster to be competitive. Since alterations to the sidearm are carefully regulated in IDPA, and magazine capacity is limited to a division-specific maximum of 10 rounds, it is possible to be competitive in IDPA with a greatly reduced outlay of money - Zábava
This is SO encouraging, thank you for sharing this. As someone new to competitive shooting, it's easy to get discouraged by how fast everyone else is.
Man who you telling. I was just thinking the same thing. It’s nice to see everybody didn’t come out womb shooting perfectly
Legend has it he is still out there, trying to knock down those plates ...
Sorry, just joshin' ... I actually commend you for posting this, ahem, somewhat less than stellar outing. It's real and honest, and there is a serious shortage of both here online these days.
Respect.
I just want to say thanks for this video. It's nice to see someone just starting out posting videos rather than videos of all the super shooters. I know at least for me you watch some of these videos and think you need to go out and get perfect hits and blazing speeds. Everyone has to start somewhere and it's nice to know we all start at the same place.
It's encouraging to know that you didn't start off badass. :) Awesome vid!
Thank you for sharing this. Great job! I just heard about IDPA and think it would be great, but was very intimidated at the thought. Love to see the learning/teaching attitude of everyone!
I can honestly say I have seen your progress in your shooting you came along way
I hope you have more time do some more competitions. As I have been watching you for about 5 yrs, your skills have improved tremendously. Keep up the good work brother. Ps I am going to start my IDPA journey this coming sunday. LFG .
Thank you for posting these diaries, I am about to embark on my 1st IDPA matches and it was nice to see you as Clark Kent, and not Superman.
This was the first Colion Noir video I ever watched. It's a year old today. Happy Anniversary!
Have yo kept with IDPA? Would love to see a "one year later" video. I hope you are progressing faster than I am!
I'm hopefully entering my first match this April. Nervous but excited about it!
Crazy how far you’ve come man. I have my first IPDA match tmr. If your ever free I’d love to get some range with you at TDSA
IDPA*
When he was talking about the "funny bumpy stuff on the top of the gun" I think he was talking about the sights. He meant you were doing really well and then when you got to the small plates, things started to fall apart a little. Great video man, thanks for sharing with us.
Smooth and steady brotha! Great stuff. IDPA is addictive. Come to San Antonio some time and let's shoot. You put together some quality vids. Keep it up and be safe!
Ahh, I remember my first match. It was very humbling. I thought I was a decent shooter till the buzzer went off, and you shoot for a score. However if you stick to it, you will be amazed how much your shills improve. Great channel, I subbed.
Cool video man, it is a great way to get better and so much more fun than shooting paper!
Nice job bro. way better than my first IDPA in AZ...
Good job man. Can't wait to shoot one.
You posting this is a stand up move. I will be posting my first match. Stay tuned.
This video is inspiring me to try IDPA for myself
Good job, buddy and enjoy the journey!
Good for you. You had the courage to try.
Hope you keep up the good work.
I'm going to try this! Thanks for sharing!
I can't wait till I can start IDPA one day!!! Good shooting man
Awesome stuff, looks fun
Col video...I don't know how I missed seeing it till today...anyways I bet most guys wouldn't post a video of them having shooting trouble...gotta respect that!!
good shooting. practice makes perfect
the biggest thing, as im sure you know, is getting out there and doing it. good on ya man!
Good job man! Glad to see u getting into a lot of shooting lately.
I did my first IDPA comp this past weekend.....Yeah shooting steel is fun....once you hit it. I need a lot of practice, but overall it's fun
You will get better Brotha, i have been shooting 4 months the flitching will go away just practice at home dry fire your gun with empty sheel casing on top my instructor taught me that little trick good shooting still Stay Frosty!!
First match looks a Lil rough my dude, but kudos for doing it, and you'll only get better!!!!! I love shooting steel it's a blast!!!
I just shot my first IDPA match this weekend. It's a great time. Kinda frustrating when guys don't use a CCW gun and don't really conceal. A Glock 34 under a shooting vest isn't practical. Just compete against friends and others in your division is what I'm learning.
you are better than i am...i have not shot in idpa nor any other match...good luck and keep on shooting..
@MrColionNoir....At least you trying it. I want to myself but I am so nervous about doing bad wanted to pay for shooting listens before I try it. Good video
What is a good competition to do for your 1st competition in anything in shooting
I am looking to get into IDPA with my G19 also. I am using the G19 bc to me it makes sense to get good with my ECD and not something im only going to use for IDPA. Have you modded the trigger or anything? or have you kept everything stock for the most part?
Keep with it!
Great video man. I'm planning on doing the idpa thing myself. When I get a more match friendly gun. 45 ain't gonna cut it.
Cool video. IDPA is addictive...you have no idea what you're getting into! LOL
Have fun and stay safe.
That looks amazingly fun! how much to get into that and do they allow fullsize 1911s?
Flinchmaster huh? I used to have the flinch from hell and I found a way to correct it. Buy your self some snap caps and dry fire the daylights out of your gun. Focus on the trigger control and sight alignment with slow, deliberate trigger pulls each time until you wear the snap caps out and have to buy another set. It worked for me and It also worked for a friend of mine who had a bad flinch as well. The theory is that your body and brain get used to the action and when you transition to live ammo your muscle memory kicks in and takes over.
Ok, now I'm terrified. I'm doing my first match on March 24th...
@Mrcolionnoir You need a .45? to knock them suckers down. How come the film is so dark? Is it like 5 am in them morning?
Gotta say great grip for wet slippery environment right!
Sure somebody mentioned, when you shoot the star take out "head" THEN "arms" and "legs" to reduce spin. Ask me how I know :)
I bet you meet some pretty cool people at these things. Ive been wanting to get into it myself. Not as easy as Jerry Mitchelek (
There should be another match on Wednesday at the place you were at, I'd like to meet up with you there if u wanna shoot
12 years later...
45 is perfect for IDPA
Nice with a screw up video, i shoot IPSC myself. Seen all your videos about guns, nice videos. A bit disappointing about you becoming a Glock rather than HK man. Does't your Glock look the slide back after last round i mag ?
You should get together with Hickok45 He can help that accuracy, not that I'm that good of a shot or anything...
this is me right now. I need to learn to shoot better damn
That match isn't even a little bit IDPA legal. oh well.
lol, shooting blanks at times I'm thinking
ROB... ran out of bullets.
Your heart beats out of your chest.....lol. trigger control, breathing, all that shit goes out the window lol. slow down bro, the fundamentals will set you free. I bet you'll do better next time.
