This was perhaps one of the best recommendations that CZcams has ever made for me.

Ladle is a meme weapon, good for challenge runs or serving soup. 10 durability is the real problem. Because it has no innate scaling, when it breaks, you do zero damage. And it breaks in about 10-12 hits. It’s stupidly short, so you’re always missing. There’s really only 2 viable use options, one of which isn’t terrible. Either poison infuse, or infuse with mundane. Poison is tricky since it can’t be broken, else do no poison build up. Mundane, however, adds scaling, doing not terrible damage at a high enough level. If I recall, the hard cap puts it at just over 200 damage, broken. The Ladle only run in Scholar edition is infinitely easier than the vanilla version’s Ladle only run, and it’s not even close. If you want one of the toughest challenges this game, heck this series, has to offer, do Ladle only in Vanilla DS2. And join Covenant of Champions while you’re at it, which is basically hardmode. Trying to kill Mytha in CoC with a broken ladle, on the way to getting the Dull Ember in Iron Keep, will cause you to lose your sanity. I did.

I'm interested in seeing how you'd rank the great hammers.

Hammer time! Craftsman’s is stronk, and can carry you a long ways without upgrading, which makes it great for getting to the point you acquire your weapon of choice. Too bad it’s the least interesting looking model.
Morning Star and Barbed Club are special, because hammers and great hammers can’t be infused with bleed, but these have it innately. Bleed needs the ring and gauntlets that increase build up to be good on normal mobs, otherwise you’ll kill them before it proccs. It’s underwhelming in PvE, since one of bleeds strengths, the stamina penalty, doesn’t effect mobs. You’re almost always better of with straight damage. From my memory, I was doing more damage with my Barbed Club than my Mace, and it’s longer. Plus bleed proccs. And the BC looks really good. And like the Craftsman’s, it starts off stronk already. On my list, the BC would be top 3.
People often struggle killing Crystal Lizards, but hammers are excellent at the job. Just 2-hand it, then do a running attack, with follow up light attacks. With few exceptions, no matter what my main is, I’ll keep a hammer on hand for the little buggers.
As far as powerstancing hammers goes, it’s like anything else; the stamina usage is really high. The way I think of it is this. YOLO ! I use powerstance when I’m willing to get a fast damage spike in exchange for using more stamina than it’s worth. Like when I know one powerstanced hit will kill a mob, but a normal won’t. Or if I’m fighting a boss, and am using hit and run tactics. Powerstance is rather disappointing if you want to use it as the only way you kill stuff, because of the stamina use. But it has its moments.
Once you’re in ng+ and beyond, hammers feel weak. My recommendations are The King’s Ultragreatsword, which also does strike damage, or the Gyrm Great Hammer. The big clubs are good, but not visually appealing.

We have similar taste, ive been using the kings ultra and the gyrms greathammer quite a bit when i was making my way thoug the ng+ ses lol.

@@eddielolivares3952 The Kings and Gyrm GH are definitely fun, and cool looking too. Just wanted to tell you that I’ve really enjoyed watching your footage of your gameplay. I like your pressure, daring, and decision-making. And getting good at PvE parrying isn’t easy, especially since rolling is so good as an alternative in DS2, that the fact you’ve taken the time to nurture that skill is admirable.
