This is not the same drive you have that's on amazon it has Retrobat ,Launchbox and Playnite No EmulationStation with the light gun games at all
Thanks for checking these, Cooltoy! We wish more segment sponsors and numbers to come your way. Keep producing, man and thank you for your time engaging with the community!
Any time!
I usually feel like these preloaded drives are a rip off but this one seems to be really nice. it's not just a messy dump of ROMs. It's got all the front ends screenshots, themes, videos, etc.. I think it's really worth it to have a turn key set up like this. I have a pretty extensive collection of ROMs and I still would consider buying this just so I don't have to go through the hassle of setting all the crap up and scraping the screenshots and stuff.
It is litterally a rip off in the purest sense. They downloaded a pre made hard drive image from arcade punks. Lmao. Then they loaded drives and are selling them on amazon. Its the work hours of thousands of people other than the obvious publishers and developers.
Litterally a preconfigured hard drive image. 🙄
@@CapitanGreenhatbut are you willing to put hours to configure all of that? convenience sure come with price tag
@hamamudo3011 lmao, lame excuse. Selling this stuff harms emulating in general and gives company's a lot of weight on a court room against anyone providing anything. The truth is stuff like launchbox makes setup practically automatic outside of the time locating and downloading games. And another issue is a crap ton of emulation boxes, plex boxes, android boxes, chinese mini pcs, and kodi boxes are loaded with Trojan horses, viruses, and backdoors. There is no excuse for such utter lameness. 👎
@@CapitanGreenhatthen by all means spend all of your money on whatever you want. Those of us who would rather either chance it with a pre-loaded emulation system or do it ourselves THAN spend 1000s on rare hard to find physical games and systems OR wait for companies like Nintendo to re-release them back to the market which they will never do
@@MarioSonicDKPokeFAN
You are only wasting your money buying these cheap drives off Amazon and other sites. Not because the games or copies, that is just the lowest part.
These drives they use are cheap, used and do not last long. The constant use on them as well, makes these basically worthless. You are basically paying $100+ for some files that need to be moved ASAP.
Do it yourself, save the time and money AND you get the satisfaction of having a game list catered to specifically you.
Great review as usual. Thanks for bringing this to light. I ordered one and can't wait to give it a go.
Glad it was helpful!
@@cooltoy shouldnt of wasted your money when people in the community would do it for free
@gabemolina9449 no one will put it together like this for free
Good job 😑
@@danielesparza2480 dude. Hate to tell you. This is LITTERALLY a pre configured hdd image available as a torrent. They litterally downloaded the work of the community and are packaging and selling it as their own.
Not to mention the errosio this does to the legality of emulation. 🙄
Before clicking on any file especially.exe files, make sure you scan everything with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. I’m currently getting 7 detections on Malwarebytes from the Playnite folder..
Building 20Tb WD Elements myself. In the process found out that the best games to keep are Xbox360 titles with Xenia. Don't know why no one jumping on that already. They starting as fast as any older console and running smooth on SteamDeck.
Xenia has been around since forever but only within the last year or so has made decent strides in emulation which is why most people ignore 360 emulation and Xenia.
@@secondleasegamer8312 Yeah if a game runs, than it runs at full speed on SteamDeck. Testing over 1000 Xbox360 Games right now. Has no shader compilation loading like RPCS3 does...
@Sergey Simon what kind of file types do u use for steam deck. Where I get my roms they all seem to have a huge folder content. Is that normal?
i agree with u about xenia, but ther is a but, if you want to play at full Speed xbox360 games you should have a very good PC or a very efficient APU (CPU with integrated video card like Ryzen 9 or 7)...xenia Is very difficult to run even with a GTX 1050, because the xenia emulator its more CPU demanding than GPU...
Bc you can store all the 360 games or you can store everything in existence except ps3 exbox 360+. Speaking of +. Switch and ps3 emulation is getting decent these days
Thanks for showing that drive, I was curious about it. I'd love to see more virtual pinball content.
More to come!
I think with just the recent console and pc games it's worth the price. Curious to see someone load this into a pre-built arcade
it's definitely priced right for convenience's sake
Lol of course it’s worth the price.. if you priced out just the PC games you’d spend thousands of dollars
really nice collection and review, thanks. is there any concern about hooking up a harddrive and it possibly running malicious software on your computer or do you give them a scan first before using?
I give them a quick scan first, never had an issue found thus far
Great review! ✌🏼😁🎮
Hi ! thanks for this review ! Which touch did you use to go to the main menu ?
Really enjoy your channel, keep up the fantastic work, wondering if this had Sega Model 3, specifically Star Wars Arcade Trilogy?
It did not, but you could always add it by placing the rom in the folder that has the other Sega model 3 games in it on the drive
@@cooltoy thank you
Nice video. I'm actually interested in this
Glad I could help 👍
Hi bro, great review, but I didn't see any ps3 games on this video, di u found some of those in launchbox or in retrobat?
I don’t care too much for the PC games being on it, most of them I already own. I want to see more of the ps3/360 generations, and PS4 games on these HHD
Same
Really impressive collection of games.
The newer games on Playnite one had me like 😯
Can’t wait. I hope it can work with my steam deck!
Did it work? I got a rog ally
I just want one of these with full a full Saturn library and clone controllers.
Ahhh takes me back to the 90s
Thank you for covering these drives hopefully maybe you could cover one of the Ex Arcadia Taito type X drives that have the nice front end for modern Japanese cabinets thanks
Great suggestion!
taito is a 8 gig add on, easy as pie, not hard, just shows how lazy he is for not adding it
This looks really good. I am a noob to emulation things and don’t have a pc. (Mac). So what mini pc would be best to run these games?
Thanks for the great video. Most of these emulators Hard Drive systems are not perfect. Some games will work some will not. some require to configure controllers. Duplicates of games. I have a new computer with i7-12700 -16GB memory RTX 3060 512 GB SSD. and it plays all games really good.
Built a mini retro pc using a Lenovo M73 tiny desktop...but i am about to rebuild my 15 yr old HTPC and i am thinking of adding one of these drives to it. Two 20TB ssd with a 2TB M.2 n a SilverStone Milo series case. Havent decided on my board, gpu and cpu yet. Any suggestions
I'm buying this tomorrow for my birthday 🎉
Awesome
how dangerous are the remaning trojans on hdd. if they getting removed can it still be playable ?
I was surprised to see those newer games
This is starting to look better than kriscoolmod 's build right now. Kinda disappointed in the 3DS not working. Seems to happen to quite a few of these emulator builds
Because these are not checked, they are copied and pasted using terrible low quality HDDs that crash within 6-8 months of usage.
This is dope! This would be great to have!
Came across your video, good review. Unfortunately I think I have bought the wrong (5tb) drive as I just realised that it doesn't have the Wii, Wii-U and the Switch emulators as the 4Tb drives. I have not received mine yet, but I do believe the 5Tb one doesn't have those emulators I want :(.
Thinking of adding this thing to my legends ultimate with a dedicated PC. Wonder if my bitlcd marquee will work with launchbox
In theory yes, but someone should develop a compatibility layer for that.
Hi ! Thank You for your Vids ! Can You make a video about pinball games on this System ? I've quickly seen more than 600 titles and I wanna see them. THX
This looks amazing. I wish I wasn't so cheap. LOL
For the arcade shooter games, do you use light guns, if so which do you recommend or controller?
I personally prefer to use Sinden light guns when playing those types of games on my gaming pc
Very cool item. Quick question, why don't any of these feature CD-i emulation? Or maybe i just missed it. But I've watched a few of these videos and I never see it in the menus.
Like im interested in Amiga CD32/1200, CD-i, Atari Jaguar, R.E.A.L. 3DO, etc.
Technically speaking there are CD-i, (CD32, Jaguar etcetera) working emulators, they don't put them in these disks maybe because few people ask for them.
Pretty impressive for a build this size.
That's just the hard drive. You still need a PC to play them.
@@Joeysnew532 do u thin this work with the rog ally
@@metroishereyt6662 honestly I've never used a rog ally. I've pretty much only emulated on PC and phone.
Thank you for the review!❤ If I have a big enough hard drive can I dump all 5tb on to it so I can run directly from my PC? Or does it have to run from drive?
You can move all the files from the hard drive to the local drive(s) on your PC if you wish yes.
I personally would copy and paste. That way, you have two copies
Got this today but have not been able to get my xbox controller to work with emulationstation. The controls are all jacked up and I can't seem to change them. Launchbox and playnite controls seem to work fine.
Cooltoy.....do you happen to scan the drive first for malware or viruses before you connect it to your PC??? The reason I ask is that a lot of these drives have malware and Spyware on them. Just wondering if you did that check.
Yes, I check anything I plug into my computers for malicious intent first.
forgot to ask is the chd files easy to get ? asking as a newbie in emulation. its why I am checking out these items on your channel
Yes, all you need to do is google the game name with CHD and you will find the files for download
I can’t get any of the MAME games to load on mine. Program crashes while screen says INITIALIZING. Any idea?
Try using a different MAME core.
I need something like this but plug n play to the TV lol
Thanks im definitely getting this now @Madlittlepixel just made a video on how to go in and clean up these systems or hard drives for us noobs 🎉🎉
I saw another youtube review of this product mentioning that this comes with US versions of the games with no duplicates, meaning this is already better than most of the products out there that simply dump all games and duplicates into the HDD.
Strange that this pro point is not mentioned here at all.
This is fantastic does it have daphne… If I want to use launchbox will it pick up all the roms library or the front ends are specific to system types they support ?
To pick up the the other roms and emulators with launchbox you would have to manually add some search paths in launchbox so it knows where on the drive to find them
Does it have daphne?
TBH, Lauchbox is so capable and easy to setup... you are much better off downloading romsets and building your own launchbox drive. It wont be filled full of junk roms in foreign languages that way.
Buying other peoples build hasnt made sense in a long time. Hyperspin was such a huge pain in the ass to setup and took so long to get media/configs handled, that it was far more worthwhile to pay for someone else's build than spend 80 hours on your own. But with Launchbox, after you've downloaded the roms and put them where they belong, you can have your full build setup and config'd in just an hour or two.
@Second Lease Gamer
I fully support this statement. People will spend a ton of money on pre-configured drives, and most will never play but 5 to 10% of the games up there. I remember I made a 3TB passport drive with Bactocera on it, and decided to see if people would rather pay than do it themselves. And wouldn't you know, I charged a ridiculous price on top of that, 500$. Within 8 hours I had a sale.
It's very easy to build your own collection, without the junk titles. And yet, I promise you this thing the Chinese make will simply give them that much more money.
@COOLTOY I’ve just brought one of these and all the games are stuttering and jittery on emulation station and launchbox could you help? I’m using a Ace magician amr5 ryzen 7 5800u mini pc to run it
I bought one.
INCREDIBLE!
There are games in there that I haven't even thought of them in 20+ years.
And it all seems pretty straight forward, but....
Where can I find out HOW to play the games?
Which keys do what?
I can run them, but finding the correct keys to play is frustrating.
Hunting and pecking has gotten me damn near nowhere (except places I didn't want to go).
In Emulation Station, you can usually use the scrape function to download the user manual for the game.
use a controller
😆
wow im impressed i might have to buy this cooltoy
can i ask has it got the ps1 games future cop loaded 1/2
& grand turismo ridge racer games that work on both ps1/ps2
yes, it has all of those on the drive
Thx for letting me know gonna get one tomorrow just hope it will work with my mayflash f 500 ultra
I have retroarch on my series S. Getting all the roms has become a chore. Is the a way to buy a hard drive with just the roms?
Great review, one question though. can this work on a Mac desktop?
Yes
Does it require to disable windows security and firewalls before startup.? Thanks.
Hey, I could really use assistance. I bought a mini pc ( miniforums um690) just to try this product out. I’ve had this for 2 weeks and spent hours trying to figure out how to use it. I can’t figure out how to play launch box, n64 and above without stuttering. I’ve tried to access retro arch via launch box and change which core it uses to play n64 games but it doesn’t change the core and stays stuttering. If I connect it to another mini pc that already has retro arch on it and plays n64 games and above fine. But still when i access n64 games and above via launch box via this external hard drive it still stutters. Can someone please! Help me?
So this does not require any installations on to your PC/Laptop? I only have a work laptop which is locked behind admin access for installing any new applications but would love to know if this is quite literally plug and play?
I did not have to install anything on my system personally.
Work laptops may have restrictions in connecting external HDDs and/or running Windows applications from them.
Best is to check with your admin first whether they allow running apps from external USB drive.
is there a game list for this? specifically GameCube and ps1?
Could you do a video tutorial on how to set it up. Retrobat and LaunchBox don’t boot upon clicking, I get an error. Am I doing something wrong?
Got mine in yesterday.
Does yalls have Chinnese setting in some apps and games?
I just got my 5TB Hyper Base HD and my PS5 controller isnt working. Does anyone know whoch type of controller I should get? In addition, any tips on how to activate Artflix theme in Retrobat?
Thanks 🙏
Nice vid 👍🏾
Will this work on a nvidia shield or android box?
Nope
Would this all run well on a AMD Ryzen 7 5800U Mini PC?
I'm not very techy, could you explain how to add the .chd files? Thanks, great review!
Download the chd file for the game you wish to play, drop the chd file in the same folder that has the game rom in it. Make sure the chd file and game rom file have the same name, and then you're all set.
@@cooltoy Thanks a great deal!
I order mine, and i got it yesterday, but i can open the playstation 1 and game cube games, any help o suggestion, thanks
I Have Gaunlet Dark Legacy For My Actual PS2 And Play It Often And ItnIs The Best Home.Version Of All I've Played .
Also RUSH 2049 ON my DREAMCAST which is the only version I've found to play like the arcade
Anyone know why they use multiple frontends? Even if it was because people prefer certain ones. Couldnt all of them have all the systems and roms imported?
Do you have any recommendations about controller set up? Did you run into any issues?
I had no issues using a usb Xbox one controller
@@cooltoy so basically plug and play? No controller remapping required?
I noticed stutter on the dreamcast games due to it being on a HDD. I usually have to run cd based consoles like dreamcast and 3do on a ssd.
From what I understand, the emulator should load the full ISO into RAM (assuming you have 16GB or more) and then run from there, so SSD will only improve on the initial loading speed of the ISO file.
Game performance is mostly determined by what system/CPU is running the games.
I run DC games fine from HDD.
I have a question so when you buy this device are all the games on there free and do they all work ?
All the games come preloaded on the device. The quality of the game’s performance completely depends on the computer you connect the drive to.
Does anyone know of a similar hard drive, or plug and play device, that has just PS2 games?... Like 1,000 PS2 games...
Hey. How to play switch game on this drive? On my drive it stand i most scrap?
I want to see if someone ever sells a 5TB or hard drive full of computer games only: old pc dos, windows, and AAA tiles (From the '80s to the present day)...now that's worth it. But expect major companies begin to crack down.
You can still get retro PC games from GOG at cheap prices. People get this is because you can't get many of the old console games anymore so they resort to emulation.
@@acejon2162 I know GOG..I bought over 11 games and they're not copyprotected.
@@acejon2162 GOG games are not copyprotected and they can be dirt cheap, while Steam games some of them are cheap but they're copyprotected.

Did you find out matey? I'm looking too
do these games get updated? or they js pirated games on a drive..
the CHD files are they zipped? Do you unzip them? are they not allready in the Roms folder?, so can you just not unzip them?
Just copy over the file as is.
CHD is a lossless compressed format.
so even tho i have this i've not got round to installing it & i was wondering i know its ment for pc
however i was wondering if it would work on a top of the range tv via pluging it in to the usb.
nope
No. I see lots of people here are confused on how these things work. The drive just holds the games and the media files. Think of it of copying a song to a CD. The Drive is the CD in this example. You need a computer (CD Player) capable of running the games (Songs on the CD) still.
If you want to run this on a TV, its impossible, but you CAN take a modern PC, and hook it up to your TV, then hook the drive up to that same PC, and play all these games on your PC over your TV. But yeah, a lot of people are confusing this hard-drive with a computer, and its not that.
This is a USB drive with Windows applications that need Windows OS to run.
Can this system be ran directly from your TV or monitor, or does it have to be plugged into your PC?
Has to be plugged into the pc
The first kinhank one that i bought used Botacera and i was required to boot to the HD itself. Is this one the same or does it run inside windows ?
Runs inside windows

It is just a standard USB HDD, why would there be excess rights problem? Unless you're using an office PC with USB port restrictions, that means other USB HDD will also have the same problem.
One option is to connect to another PC and copy out the files to your own HDD and use it.
does it have pinball fx2 and fx3 ?

not unless you are connecting a PC via OTG
Do you have any info on the case? Mine did not have the case included.

Does it have at least XBOX 1 as seems that these drives always seem to be missing at least the xbox 1 console and games
Hey Doug. Quick question.
Does this drive include the NHL games for PS2? More specifically NHL 2003?
Thanks! Great review vid bud!
Thanks for the video Doug. Is there something that has that many emulators on it that I could hook up to my TV and play that way? I know there are plenty of things like that on the market but are any of them powerful enough to run off of one of those boxes or do I need a PC to have all of that emulation?
pick up a lenovo tiny or other mini pc with a ryzen processor in it. any ryzen 5 will run most of these games.
unfortunately since this isn't an android base device, it's really not going to be compatible with a smart tv
@@briancollora481 It’s not that I don’t have a powerful enough PC to run it. I just prefer relaxing and playing from my recliner on my TV
@@cooltoy Totally get that. Do any of these android type devices you seen have enough power to do the same emulation that this hard drive can do on a PC. I’m guessing no.
No, the android stuff typically tops out at dreamcast emulation. Anything above that, you will need to use a PC for playable emulation.
Are you able to back it up in case the hard disk crashes or gets corrupted?
Yes
How do you obtain the CHD files? Are they in the file, just not in the correct location?
Google “game name”and CHD and you’ll find the files you need

Can i copy the roms on this hdd to my other handheld emulators or is it encrypted?
Yes you can add/move files from this drive just as you would any other hard drive
can you move the ps2 rom files to another device? is it standard iso ?
It is a standard USB drive with PC files, so yes you can copy all the files out to a 2nd drive or to your build-in PC SSD.
