Hi all: ways to stay motivated and habit tracker builds this week: I've been playing with a few: which of these do you like best? How do you overcome 'the resistance'? Answers on a postcard!... or in the comments... like usual. You don't have my address. Thanks!
you definitely deserve more subscribers!!
Thank you! Spread the word! đ€
@@BetterCreating i will!
Apart from great templates, I like it that your design is based on theoretical concepts from literature and your speaking is very clear and coherent. I feel like Iâm learning about digital tools and getting some decent literature input at the same time. Very refreshing! Thank you for what you are doing!
So pleased to hear that: couldnât agree more: all this productivity stuff and Notion tom-foolery is only useful if you own the thinking behind it, and approach it with a perspective that actually serve you: it can be an addictive trap otherwise! Thanks so much for the comment and for supporting the channel! Letâs keep this train rolling :)
I like Habit tracker #2 and I am about to build it. I have recently discovered Notion and I am excited to start building my "second brain" for lac of a better term. I am a teacher and this (and last) year have been HARD. I am trying to be more productive and intentional with my time. I have realized if I don't start taking care of me, I won't be able to be my best self for my family and my students. This habit tracker will help me visualize my "taking care of me" time. Your videos have helped so much because they are relevant, creative and calming. Thank you so much!
Ah this is so great to read Rebecca: makes the hours of side hustling worth it to hear the vids are having a positive impact for people! Thanks for posting. Yeah, kelp playing with things: Iâve found you have to try different things until the right approach for you appears :)
@@BetterCreating Absolutely I will. My ultimate goal is to start setting up my "teacher life" on Notion so that I can search for lesson plans by standard (so I don't forget that amazing lesson or awesome resource) and also so I don't forget to take attendance :). Thank you for what you do! Keep it up.
I really like your home template. It is on another level of creativity and it looks so beautiful
Ah, thanks very much! Make sure you check out my full life OS system tour if you havenât too on the main channel page. đ
Searching for lots of habit tracker videos, this is one of the videos I love and relate to most. I can actually put it into practice! Still pondering on creating it in the notion or excel, either way, your tips and theoretical thinking behind it help a lot! Thanks for sharing, I'm totally liking and subscribing!
Much appreciated! Iâm releasing a new build video for a habit tracker using new Notion features end of this month - so watch out for that too ! :)
Well worth the cost of the platform. I hope you get more subscribers. This is a great tool and I really enjoy your videos. Thanks.
I use one similar to the last one. I have a REVIEW page with a table of Todays, a table of Weeks, a table of Months, Quarters, and Years. The numbers from the Todays roll up into the Weeks, which roll up into the Months, Quarters, Years...I can break it down by individual habit or by overall "Happiness" score. They are all figured to be 100% success if there are five marks in seven days and if the two missed are not together. I still have to figure out how to carry it over though so it gigs me if I miss Saturday of one week and Sunday of the next.
This sounds amazing! I'm just working on that - how to roll up daily tracking into an ongoing report for the year.
@@BetterCreating since you can't roll up a roll-up, you have to roll it up, then put it in a formula. Then you can roll the formula up to the next tier. On my weekly review where the happiness score "hs" is a roll-up average property from the level of completed daily routines, "Happiness" is formula where 'round(prop("hs") * 1000) / 1000.' That formula can be rolled up to the next tier where it is given the same treatment to track trends.
A very well made video. Keep up the great work đđ»
Nice one. Thanks!
Great video! Thanks for all your hard work.
My pleasure! thanks for watching!
Number 2 for sure
Am new to your world Simon - but loving the quality work you're putting out there đ
Ah thanks very much! Welcome!
This is a beautifully edited video very nice. Iâm getting into Notion just this week and already obsessed đ€©
Great stuff Claire - once you are bitten - it can be a problem! Haha. Check out my playlists for lots of build videos if you wanna really learn to create various elements. :)
@@BetterCreating Thanks Simon! I'm excited to create my own Pillars Pipelines Vault system but less on the business focus. I'm a solo blogger and youtube procrastinator, creative author and trying to get my weight to a healthy level while job hunting for dayjob so it's been a struggle of keeping track of daily tasks and feeling satisfied in the work. But Notion seems the answer :) More work upfront setting it up but I love all the customization!
Great stuff! So happy to find that!
Glad you are enjoying the vids.
Great video, as always! I have a love/hate relationship with Steven Pressfield's War of Art book. I read it quite a few years ago, and got a lot from it, despite not being a fan of his writing style. The concept of resistance was REALLY helpful. He goes a bit weird in the third part of the book, but my main issue is the times he says some pretty outrageous and unhelpful things. Such as "Attention Deficit Disorder, Seasonable Affect Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder. These arenât diseases, theyâre marketing ploys. Doctors didnât discover them, copywriters did." - I got diagnosed with ADHD last year at the grand old age of 46 and as you can imagine, I take issue with that. But like with most books, you have to take the helpful bits, and discard the rest!
Interesting perspective thanks - yes - âneurodiverganceâ etc etc is an interesting world - I donât like the use of the word âdisorderâ as it suggests a norm - we are all on a spectrum and many of my friends whom have a later in life diagnosis of ADHD wouldnât change their mind at all: they just wish for systems to make the things they need more tools for, and love to keep the âsuperpowerâ they see in how they think ! Big love! Thanks for the comment.
@@BetterCreating thanks for replying. I couldn't agree more. I really dislike the word "disorder" too. In fact, pretty much all the words in ADHD are wrong. It's not "attention deficit" it's more "attention dysregulation". Sometimes I find it hard to focus and sometimes I hyperfocus. I'm going to take your ideas and template and tweak them slightly, but I love the way you've put everything together. And the way you've set up the Stream Deck. It's pretty glorious. And I do smile at the joy on your face as you go through all these things. I share a similar joy! đ
Hi Simon! Thank you so much for one more brilliant video! I love the way you express yourself. So didactic. Just a quick question: do you set the moment that you are actually practicing a habit to your daily/ weekly review/calendar widget? So you can plan within your tasks and meetings what time you will do it?
Thanks Bruno! I donât personally but you could. Feels like a step to many for me. I just have my practices table available and look at it each morning. A good trick if you have an iPhone is to set the double or triple tap backtap feature in accessibility to the practices page in your Notion for quick access ! đđ
Thank you! Just in time )) now struggling with resistance as well. I like v.2 tracker and will try to build something like that
Great! Hereâs how to build it. :) czcams.com/video/HYCnYTlDoo4/video.html
@@BetterCreating I don't know why but the formula does not work in my table. The first part of it also does not return "1" if a day is checked.
Update. Solved )) The case matters - "true" works, "True" doesn't ))
I have both but I prefer the simpler version. By cons I do not regret my purchase because the rest is just beautiful !!
Yeah, the simpler version is definitely a lovely way to keep on top of things. Glad you are enjoying the template! :) itâs there to be adapted by you! :)
I recently discovered your channel and love it! This is my favorite video so far. Really helpful in more ways than one. Am definitely looking forward to the template and/or how-to's for these trackers. They're great, though not yet sure which is my favorite. Will watch a few more times then decide:-). Thank you!
Tough call, but I think I'd start with #2 first!
Hey Dawn, such a lovely comment to read thank you. Yes, Iâve been using both this week and leaning towards using the simpler #2 tracker for daily habits, and then making weekly / monthly stuff happen through recurring tasks in the calendar. Build tutorial coming soon đ
@@BetterCreating Great, looking forward to it!
love it so far but, what if i want to track let say, im a drummer and want to track specific patterns and exercises and how am i advancing , same with my max reps with bench press, squat, deadlift for 3 months withing the "workout tab"?
Thanks. Check out my more recent videos in NFS too if you liked this. In my templates I have also built a linked fitness tracker that does similar. Itâs a bit of work and requires some good formulas, relations and roll ups across databases. But doable. :)
I have a question. Namely, I want to keep track of what I do during the day.
I have photo and video production and I work on several projects at once.
I have written in Notion what I can do.
But how much time I actually spend on what project I donât know.
If there was any button I would press when I go from project 1 to project 2.
At the end of the day, I would like to see how much time I spent on Project 1 and Project 2.
Hi Matjaz, I use my wider productivity system to manage my content production and manage time. Have you seen my complete Life OS videos and Template? This could give you some ideas: czcams.com/video/szTZdEQsiys/video.html and a day in my life on Notion: czcams.com/video/jmTCwm-rsFY/video.html
Tracking time on projects may be more tricky but Iâm sure there is a formula somewhere that would calculate duration from calendar events with times included.
Hope that helps! Thanks for watching
You are the best. Buddy. The work you are doing here is absolutely Phenomenal, You deserve More Likes and subscribers. Well it won't make any difference because you are changing lives. Mine at least, By finding your. tutorials was a gift from god. Thank you so much Man...
Wow, thanks Abby! It's people taking the time to feedback the value like this that keeps it all moving forward and me motivated! Al the best and thanks for watching. Spread the word! :)
Hi Simon,I bought and really loving your template! I have a question: I'm trying to add a habit that has a different frequency - EG: Piano practice twice a week. I'm not sure how to proceed? Should I create a new Frequency ? or how can input as a goal - 2 times x week or 8 times x month? Thank you! :)
Hi - yeah I couldnât work out how to program that functionality. I think the simplest approach in my current system is to have Piano Practice 1 and Piano Practice 2. Or you could set one for every 3 daysâŠ? Iâm sure there is a solution! Anyone?! Thanks for watching :)
Unexpectedly excellent video.
Thanks @Green Tea.
I purchased the Complete Notion template and am loving it. I do like the Practices, except I don't like that there isn't a checkbox to just click on when I complete the habit. I don't want to open it and type a number in there every time. Is there a way to make a checkbox on that one like the other simple one? I'm going to try to figure out how to put that one on my Dashboard. (Notion newbie) PS. I love the images you've chosen for the cards. Makes me want to use it.
Hi Cara: yeah, the challenge of using a tick box system AND getting the flexible long term tracking that integrated with goals is really tricky to solve. This was my favourite solution so far: you might want to use a simpler one such as the tracker I show how to create in this video: but it doesnât integrate and track as completely... czcams.com/video/HYCnYTlDoo4/video.html
You're so charismatic!! Good video :)
Oh thank you!
I like them both. Iâd probably find a way to use them both as Iâm sure they could both their own purpose or benefit.
Good to hear đ
hello! with the 2nd habit tracker, is it possible to include tasks that only need to be done every 2nd day? like a workout or so. if so how do i include it without the tracker thinking my score is just average because i skip every other day? :D
Hi, Hum, tricky one. You could do it with a more complex formula that sets target for a period and then you log a number against that. Otherwise not sure. My super complex template does it I think, but I prefer using a simple tick box system. Not that helpful of me perhaps! Good luck. :)
How do i plan for year 2022 in your notion template ?
Cool:
1. Go to the goal setting page - generate a new year by clinking the + Start New Yearly Review and naming it 2022.
2. Do the review process: check out my âhow to plan your yearâ video for my guide.
3. Create 3 new goals labelled for 2022 in the goals database under âaction into the system tabâ and you should be on your way! Hope that helps!
Iâll be doing a video on this late December / Early Jan. :)
Hey! I love your videos, I've been a Notion nerd for awhile now and your video on your "daily practices" sparked an idea for me to kickstart my habit tracker.
I just want to add a small note regarding your audio, there's obvious level/volume differences and just thought maybe you should know. The biggest one for me is around the 5:50-5:45 mark.
Thatâs great to hear! Yeah, I noticed that too: editing error in this video i think from duplicating settings between some clips. đ€Šââïžđ¶ Should be fine in the rest of the vids! Thanks đ
One thing about Simon? Heâs going to have some toast and peanut butter!
Haha, itâs so good.
Thank you very much, I really like you
Thanks for watching!
How do I just get the 2nd habit tracker you described?
Hi there, yeah: itâs included in my life OS templates at www.bettercreating.com/downloads. The productive Life OS includes it along with a linked Goal setting / yearly review template and task manager etc. As do the complete and creative life OS. đ
Thanks for watching!
@Simon I love to you to track my finances in excel with Notion. I embed Excel in Notion.
Nice idea: definitely some finances stuff in the pipeline this year :) Thanks
could you please share the habit tracker 1 template?
I will soon as part of a whole system template thing: I need to clean a few things up first!
@@BetterCreating okay that's great thanks! will it be paid?
Interesting question: Iâm working that out at the moment: itâs hours of work, so might ask for a small âthank youâ for the full system, helps me keep this channel ticking on too, but also want to keep lots of this free :) depends on which I make a âhow to build itâ video for: so far all have been broken down as how to build videos.
@@BetterCreating okay haha. I hope itâs available soon đ
How can I get the habbit tracker #1?
Hi Friend - you can either download it as one of my life OS templates, or I have a new build video on my Notion From Scratch CZcams Playlist where you can build a slightly simpler version of it. :)
@@BetterCreating so if I buy your life OS -> the habbit tracker #1 is included?
8:00 how to plan my year vid
Exiting that find you đ€©
Welcome!

UghâŠlooks super elaborate but itâs not for me. I feel like it takes me too much time to create this.
You can download a free template of the simpler tick box tracker on my website if it feels like too much to build for you. :) and the more complex one is available in my complete system template: agree: that one is more of a project in itself to share with others!
