      0. They'd be spending more resources pivoting another studio to make a sequel to a game that isn't Call of Duty. Because let's be real here. Activision is gonna Activision no matter where it is. It's like Walmart. Soon as a Walmart opens somewhere, all the other small businesses close down around it. That's what's happening here.

HFR ain't returning. Bethesda will be nothing but a Fallout / Elder Scrolls studio in the coming years. Despite what Booty says about wanting smaller well received games he also said they will focus on high impact games, and Bethesda has two of those: Elder Scrolls and Fallout (especially so after the TV series). Everything else under Bethesda, even id, will be subject to scrutiny and asked if they're needed. The studios under Bethesda that aren't shuttered will probably be turned into support studios for BGS so Elder Scroll and Fallout entries can be released more quickly.

I feel like Capcom’s success is at least partially because of every other publisher chasing trends/growth, which Capcom was too for a while before pivoting to providing what they know is best for their audience. The 7 years lines up to when their games went from chasing to providing. If any other major 3rd party publisher mimicked Capcom’s current approach, something tells me they wouldn’t be as successful with the competition. Outside of Sony games, it feels likes Capcom are the only ones making AAA games without compromising their integrity and consumer satisfaction, everyone else is aggressively going after your time and money.

The guy literally only reports to one guy (MS CEO). To even suggest that this is out of Spencer's hands is ridiculous. Nadella isn't running the day to day of Xbox. That's Spencer's actual job. Nadella didn't pitch to spend $100b on acquisitions, thus casting a keener eye onto Xbox. Spencer pitched that, convincing Nadella the promised land with Game Pass and acquisitions. Everything happening now is because Spencer was convinced Game Pass, or the "Netflix of gaming" was a sure thing. Despite the fact at the time many execs around him weren't convinced and despite the fact the reason Netflix can release so much content is because the average time to write, shoot, produce a show is 6-12 months. The average time to make a game is now 4 years (more if its new IP). But Spencer convinced Nadella on it. This is all on Spencer. You can't give him credit when shit works out yet absolve him when shit hits the fan.

You don’t need public facing execs to feel like your building things with their company, the products/services from Sony/Nintendo already prove they are to anyone honestly consuming them, the PS5 experience for example would be extremely different as a whole if it wasn’t built with the audience and their feedback in mind, there’s no point in giving them shit for staying out of the spotlight since as we now see, it turned out to be smart/strategic. Everyone from the big 3 used to be very public facing, Nintendo pulled out first during the Wii U struggling, pulling out of E3 shows and only doing pre-recorded Directs, leading to the Switch’s success. Sony learned and followed suit.

I think somewhere along the line, the people in charge over at Xbox misunderstood how people (and math) works.
They wanted to buy Bethesda and Activision and assumed that all (or most, or many) of the existing customers for all of those popular games (Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Call of Duty etc.) would simply go "huh, I guess I need to buy an Xbox and subscribe to Game Pass/Live now to play my games" but that's not how the gaming community works.
Instead people just kind of went "huh, that's stupid, I guess I won't buy those games" which lead to a huge loss of Playstation customers who would have otherwise bought, for example, Starfield. So Microsoft/Xbox bought a profitable publisher, made them exclusive which artificially downsized their audience, in hopes of growing their platform. Uh. Wait. What.

If you ask me where I saw this I saw on Twitter and don’t ask me where I don’t remember if you have more solid leads to why please share with me I would like to know why.

The Xbox “vision” of having everything launch on GamePass never made any logical business sense, the only way that could’ve possibly worked/justified nearly 80 billion dollars in acquisitions, is if every single PlayStation/Nintendo gamer completely shifted their primary ecosystem over to Xbox, which is completely unrealistic. Either that or perfect/global Internet infrastructure for perfect cloud play, which was also unrealistic so yes, Xbox leadership did fail and do deserve whatever’s coming their way. So if Microsoft and Xbox push them to make a new one, it makes total sense that they get to do it. Otherwise any other Microsoft studio will be doing it as the Fallout show has put the franchise on an all time high.

You guys are irrational and hyperbolic. There is no "connecting the dots". Microsoft has lay-offs and closures like any other company (Sony, Embracer, Take Two). It only hurts more because Tango was involved. When the founder left and the next project was years away, they made the decision to close since Hifi Rush also didn't perform well on PS5. A decision that would have been made by Bethesda anyway, with Microsoft purchasing them or without, since all of their past games have been financial disappointments.

The thing I believe Xbox were caught off-guard by is the gamepass/revenue growth. Yes gamepass/Xbox is giving them revenue but each quarter growth is not substantial at all. So when you spend 80 freaking billion dollars on acquisitions and want to recoup that investment. It's hard to recover from it when you've have minor growth. Xbox hardware is declining each year significantly. You might say Xbox focus is not on hardware but they really should. You can't grow the subscription userbase or revenue spending without having as many new users as you can. PC users also don't rely much on gamepass sub. Otherwise there would have been shit ton of subscribers. Gamepass still at 30 million while Nintendo switch online is at 40 million more than states the reality of it. They also bet their money on cloud gaming which is still in niche status. Wrong bets and illogical acquisitions costed them what they're today

I think people would prefer if Xbox became faceless suits. The problem with being a "good guy" in a megacorp is you'll eventually have to do things that run counter to that good guy persona, and so the audience see the disparity between the talking and actions taken and feel like they're being lied to. It was always weird how much of a cult developed around Spencer. Like, no one gives a shit what you have to say. Just deliver what the consumers want.
A Windows central report some time back detailed about Spencer and him pushing Game Pass and the execs around him didn't think it can work, and yet Spencer woulsn't listen and kept pushing for it, ultimately winning the argument and getting what he wanted. At the time of that report, fanboys were short of sucking off Phil thinking he proved them all wrong. Well, about that... if Game Pass worked Xbox wouldn't be doing multiplatform releases. Nor would they be shuttering studios when Game Pass needs constant content. Nor would the MS CEO boast about how much money COD was doing on PlayStation and mention nothing about Xbox.

I remember people were surprised a second one was made. At the end of the day, it is about what sells. Money was cheap now money is expensive. They need to turn a profit to pay off the debt. Simple as that.

In addition, Hell Blade is for the industry and not for the bottom line. And I can see Microsoft saying why are we bleeding money time and time again. Turn it around or make cuts. And sadly, they just ran out of time. I'm more shocked they were allowed to rack up all this debt and cost the company so much money. Normally like Google they would be shut down or sent 3rd party.

If we aren't going to get all Activision games on Xbox Gamepass, what's the point. The big Gamepass games like Halo didn't work out. Activision is supposed to fill that gap. I love indie games, but the pitch of Gamepass is a wide variety of games, including blockbusters. I can buy the indie games. I definitely want to play for the same price as Gamepass. I will just stop using Gamepass.

Remove the day and date GamePass thing for all their A³+ games. Add them anywhere from 12 to 18 months on GamePass. Have we finally reached the stage where companies like Microsoft and Sony have finally become so arrogant and entitled that they laugh at the consumers and only focus on what happens in the board meetings?? I would say absolutely yes! In fact I believe many companies have fallen to this base monetary level thinking in shares and growth and have forgotten the needs of the consumers and needs of many employees! Maybe what needs to happen is the little people are heard and changes are made to support them while the heads take a hit and absorb the losses. Overall Xbox needs to shrink and expand at the same time! Focus on a handheld and Gamepass maybe Sony and Xbox need each other at this point and they need to work on that while keeping studios in the works to make money and focus on quality games.

That push and pull among them means we get better games. I want gamers to win each generation, not the companies. Screw console warring.

They can’t win the “console exclusives” market Nintendo and Sony have that on lock, they aren’t really focusing on hardware sales either but they have LOADS of new IPs from all these acquisitions-don’t shut studios and let those IPs sleep - put them ALL on Gamepass.
