The Tango closure hurts not only because of the potential the studio had, (which was enormous) but because of the way they got closed. They barely wrapped up the production of the Hi Fi PS5 port and got immediately fired.
Well, the studio founder and main creator has just left the company. So it's like keeping Kojima Productions without Kojima.

Agree with the Goose Camp crew on Xbox. Sarah Bond recently talking about different measures of success speaks to the quandary the ABK deal has made for Microsoft. In buying ABK, Xbox is suddenly stuck having to be ABK - focused entirely on AAA, billion dollar selling games which runs totally contrary to GamePass' business model. The two cannot coexist.
Imagine XBox offering you work now, or an XBox subsidiary company. If you had ANY other possible employment, you would run for that. What a crazy message to their employees. You are not safe, we will fire you without warning. No matter the quality of the work.
I'd be amazed if every single employee wasn't sorting their resume and looking for work now to beat the rush. It's crazy. What an appalling way for a multi billion dollar company to treat it's staff.

Why have the previews been so low res and 15fps recently?
For some reason the Animal Well video was a much earlier version of the game. It looks so much better as the final product.
Nintendo is the king of milking IP and most gamers love it.
It almost feels like top tier bespoke Single player games will be a rare commodity soon, we may get the one of hits like Elden Ring from big studios every so often... But the majority of the magic will come from indie studios.

During the 16 & 32bit era the systems was different enough that developers had to make different game, with hardware being so similar it has diluted the real creativity. I'm glad Nintendo bunks mainstream hardware expectations.

Sadly with Arkane over 70% of the devs who made Prey left because they were forced to make Redfall - So they were already a shell of what they were... MS had a chance to save them and re-boot Redfall - So in any case its all on MS...

Xbox is toast. Microsoft should turn the next one into a Steam Box. That means supporting just one environment and provides access to thousands of games already available. While that concept never got going previously, the Steam Deck has laid a template to ensure broad and enduring compatible for future games for a Steam Box.
If you watch the Hobbit making of, the quality of those films (or lack of quality) was truly the producers' fault. It's a miracle Jackson even got them made.

Completely in agreement with you, Justin -- leave the LoTR universe alone, aside from maybe the Silmarillion. It does feel a tad disrespectful toward the original Tolkien vision, and a $ grab. These studios need to focus way, way more on creating wholly new content as opposed to rehashes and expansions of existing universes (including Marvel). Lazy!

All they have to do is go back and do what made them successful in the first place, make a great Halo (get rid of 343), a great Gears ( bring it back to the horror focused, gritty style and bring back Cliffy), and a great PGR or Forza on par with Gran Turismo. Give us free online play and Gamepass as an option.

LOTR is better viewed as standard for the first time and then extended on subsequent viewings.
There's a part in LOTR3 that works MUCH better in standard edition because it's a reveal that happens during a climax of the movie, but in the extended edition, they give that part away too early so when the "reveal" happens during the climax, it's much less impactful.
Y'all need the stop mentioning LOTR if Sam is on.

All of Xbox leadership has got to go. Microsoft does not need to let it die, it can bleed for a lot longer if they still are serious about hardware - Microsoft basically has infinite money - but if they want Xbox to be dug out of the grave that Phil, Tom, Sarah, Matt, and Aaron, among others, have thrown Xbox into, Microsoft is gonna have to clean house at the top.

This is not an Xbox issue - this decision definitely came from the highest executives in Microsoft. It’s capitalism working in its worst way.
@@ktasty221 The delayed games, the games stuck in development hell, the canceled games, the games coming out worse than their predecessors (Halo, Forza Motorsport, Starfield), etc., is an Xbox issue. Their studios have been so badly mismanaged.

If you don’t like FPS games or Forza there is no reason to own an XBox. They really don’t care about variety, and they don’t understand they will never grow the fan base for Gamepass. And you can see them dropping out of the console race.

PlayStation lack variety. GamePass is filled with variety. PlayStation fired 900 Devs, and closed 4 studios, and cancelled 4 games and IGN ignored it.
Nintendo is the best there ever was, Sony is great too, Xbox has always been a crap ripoff.
We should acknowledge that we don't have all the information about Microsoft's decision, and that any explanation that assumes we're better at making profit than Microsoft's leadership is very unlikely.

The very fact that the console business is based on trust that these companies will give us quality products as a buyer of this console is unpredictable now.
These companies have become investor satisfying online multiplayer stations who rarely listen to the consumer's woes. Pc all day because not one person can control the PC market and that way there is a balance and harmony instead. 😅

Gamepass can't succeed without cannibalizing Xbox and the Xbox user base refuses to see this. Unfortunately, the average consumer is very shortsighted. We want everything for nothing. Even though everyone was saying that the model was unsustainable, the Xbox consumers ignored it because they thought their glorified rental service was something to brag about.
What are you talking about? The consumer doesn't, and SHOULDN'T have to think about if a business model is sustainable or not. That is Phil Spencer's job so stop putting the blame on consumers that is absolute nonsense.
@Krytern It is the consumer's responsibility to understand what they are spending their money on. The community was duped by Spencer, but we were warned by people outside of Xbox. You can not deny that.
Gamepass was slow poison. The ABK deal was the knife to the throat.

From corporate and investors side it's all about numbers, and there it probably and most likely makes sense. How this will turn out In the long run? We will see. Yes, leadership is the problem. But not in the way people think. Its not poor choices but a lack of accountability. Studio leads are more at fault than executives. Of course investors are the ultimate problem but nothing can be done about that.

I’m very confused by why this is upsetting people so much. It’s their studios, and their assets. How can they ever improve if they don’t make changes. Sony meanwhile tried to literally steal from customers a week ago and we’ve completely forgotten about it…imo that was far more important to gamers than closing studios that haven’t really been producing. Redfall was bad, Hi Fi rush was great but it kind of depends on what they asked for budget wise for the sequel, and Ghostwire Tokyo was their other game and it ran like absolute crap on Series X. That’s not exactly a great track record.
