I bought a cheap LS Based Monte Carlo SS with a V8 from my local auction really cheap (it was marked "AS-IS). It ran good until I sabotaged it, and offered the challenge for my assistant Sage to win it, totally free if he can figure out what is wrong with it. He only has 1 hour to do so, and if he can't, I'll be giving it away to someone in the audience!

For those who asked: The car was sold "AS-IS" all in with fees it cost $2,900. It is mechanically really solid and was serviced pretty well by it's one owner. It obviously is not in the best cosmetic condition, but I believe with paint, the interior blend door fixes, and a mechanical tune-up we can make this car really nice for about another $1,000 (the parts are really cheap and plentiful). The engine is pretty mod-able, its the FWD that hinders its performance most. Let me know what you think of the deal!
I thought fuel immediately
Basically a Chevy Accord coupe with more power lol.
What a hideous POS
I deserve the car I worked for Jorge Morales, Sage is in good hands.
Im interested in a Porsche Carrera keep me posted when you have one at the auction and find the Porsche
Honestly if he gave me the vin I could have figured it out
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Loooool
Why would anyone put a pair socks in the intake ? Who would’ve thought of that
Lies, all lies, Rich
Well he didn't blame Elon Musk for once, that's fresh.
I've been driving and working on cars for 43 years, never had a sock stuck anywhere !
Give him the car Sam !!!
Socks no but some cars that sit get nests or other junk stuck in the intake, I think the socks were to mimic that is all 🤔
I worked on a Honda with an airbox STUFFED FULL of dog food.... we also found the squirrel who did it but he got away.
I bet you didn't have a bunch of rhyming clues to help you out either.
You should give a listen to the “sable sucked a sock” episode of car talk someday haha
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH No, just a really hard to start and sputtering run with lots of black exhaust smoke.
Give the damn car to him. None of us deserve this car and most of us don’t want it. Look at how his eyes lit up when you first showed it to him. He deserves it more than any of us couch surfers.
Sages Mom here😊 He’s a very determined young man, but really Sam? A sock? Pretty sure even the priceless experience that you are giving him couldn’t prepare him for a random sock😂
Congrats on raising a champion, ma'am.
Poor kid was in the end, shaking with stress and had bloodied his fingers, he did pretty good considering he's only done a lot of his "car learning" from Sam. Sometimes Sam makes me cringe with some of the "dumb" moves he makes when fixing his cheap cars, so Sage did good all things considered.
@Budd Smokegood drinkin a lil bit too much haterade
He didnt even try....
👍💯!
Give Sage the car
He didn't even understand the simple clue
Sage deserves the SS. Everything that you did was something that can happen in the real world, EXCEPT the socks in the throttle body. GIVE SAGE THE CAR!!!
He did stipulate that he had sabotaged the car
That was so shitty Sam. So much for Christmas Spirit......
Give sage the car
Give it to him!!! there is no way any tech would have found it in 15 minutes.
@@monacoathlete2755 Misleading, since sock wasn't part of the car. Cruel, as Sam stopped him just short of the gate knowing it wouldn't restart.
Sage did pretty good. Even bloodied his knuckles trying to get it fixed. He really does deserve the car.
Just give it to him. He seems happy and willing to learn so just give it to him as a thank you for him doing good working with you.
Give him the car Sam!!! Come on!!!
Sage should definitely get the car, he's got the right mindset & love his confidence. Socks in the throttle body is pretty dirty Sam :/
It's a free car, it shouldn't be that easy
It was a simple trick though. With the last clue a breath of air would have to do with the intake or throttle body which would lead to the socks
Come on Sam, give the kid the car. Plus you gave him a HORRIBLE life line 😂
Spoiler alert...
Hell, no. He should give it to me, instead.
Give Sage the car, Sam! All things considered, he did really well. The sock in the throttle body was a bit of a dirty trick….he deserves the car!
One of your best videos yet, had me rolling. Let Sage try again on a more worthy car. You can tell he was trying hard but just needed more experience.
The person that wins the car just gift it to Sage, the guy was literally bleeding to win the car.
Sage would have been extremely lucky to find the sock, as the sock wasn't a problem with the car itself. Thus, what was presented as game of mechanic skill was actually a game of chance. Sage deserves the car, IMO.
Maybe however I was thinking throttle body with the last clue. With that thought I would have accidentially found the socks
I think the game was fair. If you try to fix a broken used car the issue can be anything socks or other crap in the intake can't be ruled out. Sam wanted Sage to think like a tech: what do you need to make a car run ? It needs spark, fuel and air
I think sage did pretty good as he was going at it blind I’m a mechanic my self and fixing something that’s been sabotaged compared to something that’s broke naturally is very different I think the sage should get this car anyways after all he did come when you “really needed him” thumbs up to sage
I’m with Sam, Sage did not deserve the car however he already is winning working for a solid guy and my favorite CZcamsr +samcrac. Also, great lesson for sage. Now he knows 3/4 reasons for crank no start and he will be a more ‘confident’ mechanic.
I have no way near the Mechanical Knowledge that Sage has, yet I was very confident that the last issue was with the air intake.
It really was obvious.
I thought it was the fuel line
"Prepare to be disappointed, Sage." I feel like that's the motto of this channel.
I’ve been watching for years now and I admit, I look forward to the sadness lol
@@MurderMostFowl I'll admit, it's the sadness and incomplete projects that keep bringing me back.
Dread Pirate Roberts....
Doesn't Sam say that to everyone he meets?
If I were to win the car I’d give it to Sage for his efforts
Shame on you Sam... He did way better than you even expected.... Anyone will make that mistake with that much pressure.... Give him the car
Sam just give Sage the car, jamming the throttle body is a bit of a low blow, do the right thing man.
IT'S CHRISTMAS MAN.🎄🎁👍
I vote we re-name him "Sam-Scrooge Crack".. what say the rest of you?
If by some miracle I win the SS, I'm gifting it to Sage
So you trained him, and expected him to work this out? Well I can see where things derailed 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sage solved most of the problems that prevented this car from starting, if he had ten more minutes he would solved the problem (socks in the throttle body)
The bright sunlight probably didn’t help, then trying to look into the dark and completely shaded engine bay. He learned something from his diagnosis-while-under-pressure experience.
I've always had a soft spot for these. I'd love to mod the supercharged 3800s in the older ones.
You need to do the fiero 3800 supercharger swap. It's really quick cause mid engine.
Headers and a pulley help along with some hpi magic makes them pretty fun. I don't know whether you watch 100% Jake but he has modified the supercharged 3800 in the Park Avenue he got from hoovie. He's running e85 along with other mods and it's not doing bad.
The 3800 engine was a real gem. Seen one drive into our shop on an insane 27,000 mile conventional oil change. Owner bought it used and did not bring it in until it indicated low oil pressure. Dropped the pan, cleaned, few cycles of fresh oil and it was still kicking. Looked like chocolate snack pack all in the engine. Just incredible.
If you like the 3800 SC engine you should definitely do a fiero build, so much fun and surprisingly quick off the line.
Built my buddies 3800 supercharged, stage 3 dyno video on my channel,
pretty deadly machine. Very sleeper and the supercharger sounds insane!!
i think sage did a good job considering he is still learning, give him the car and help him to fix it up.
He deserves the car. He wasn't well, but still came when you said you needed him...loyalty is hard to find these days ...he worked hard and should be given the car.
Dont get me wrong, I'd love this car and I always wanted one as a kid, but I still think he should get the car, I mean he tried what he knew and I think that's worth something.
Great video though, you should do more of these!
Sage deserves it !!!!
This video is a slap to the face for Sage and all of the hard work he does for you Sam, Rich was right; you didnt want Sage to win this car.
Hey Sage, we all love you. Good work in all. And yeah sometimes you loose, sometimes you win. Sam, great riddles!! Great episode in all!
Sage is 👌
These guys always make me laugh, I love the farm also.
Any time I meet an Impala/Monte Carlo SS owner, I ask how many transmissions they've been through. The answer has never been less than 2.
😂 these cars 🗑
But...you never asked me!! :)
I just commented on this. The transmissions on these are not good enough. They run hot. You HAVE to install a trans cooler. I babied my GXP and still only got to 140k.
There’s a company that makes a kit to adapt the 4t80e out of the north star v8 to fit the ls4 v8
Remember you're one of the few car guys without a lift!!!! Sage is amazing for working in that humid weather w/o a proper garage he's a champion for that alone

@@9wowable thanks!!! That's the first time I've experienced anything like this, what do people do when this happens?
I feel so sad that Sage didn't get the car :( I can't say that I know anything about his background, what he drives now (if anything?). Seeing him scrape up his hands and be so frustrated tho, please Sam just give him the car!
New subscriber , definitely been enjoying your content.
You're just being nasty. Give him the damn car, you've had your fun. Now be nice - it's Christmas!
Give Sage the damn car. He really seems like he would appreciate it

for real this was entertaining
Very interesting! A lot of valuable teaching moments. Keep it up!
Sage deserves it and youre the man for providing for the people in your life. God bless you both.
if you watched the video, Sage didn't get it lol

Clues 1 to 4 were great, I was screaming at the screen, fuel pump fuse! But socks in the intake, that never happens so that was a little wrong.. 😂😂
With all due respect, Sam didn't say the car quit running, he said he SABOTAGED it..... Socks are sabotage. Mouse nest in the air box would have similar effect and happens all the time. Tailpipe plugged with snow from backing into a snow bank does the same thing and also happens in nature.
"Car can't breathe or fart" is a crystal clear clue that there is an obstruction somewhere between the air filter inlet and the exhaust tail pipe outlet. So put an eyeball on them..... Sage just wasn't listening to the clues very well.
this was fun to watch! Do another one
Loved this video thanks for the fun.
Ah this was painful to watch! Poor Sage he didn't seem to have a clue!
Loved this game! Would like to see you test Sage again!
Yeah, maybe 1 year later try to fix a C5 Corvette!
Great video love watching Sage trying his best to get it running 👍🚘❤️💖
As soon as you said fart i knew gas!! Immediately!! Sage is a trooper
Give Sage a second chance. That last one was too hard.
Enjoyed this, the kid is learning to be thorough. Great lesson, Sam!
That was EXCELLENT ! I was on the edge of my seat !!
I love how the cow walk over at the end and are like, "what's going on over here?". 😂🥰
I’ve watched so many Sam videos I can fix any car with confidence with the right tools!
Too bad Eric O doesn’t take phone calls from CZcamsers. 😂
Well hello there viewers:-P underrated comment^_^^_^
Always entertaining never boring.
14:28 "I should've paid for chrisfix" god why was that so funny
He totally failed the test (fart... gas..), but you should give the car to him because it's really cruel to put somebody to the test the way you did. It destroyed the poor kid's self-confidence, which you can hear towards the end of the video. My heart cried for him the whole way. The things... for views.. next time please give him some time to prepare, mentally and physically.
You learn from your mistakes. Sage failed miserably here, but in the long run it will do him good as he won't make the same mistakes again. Sometimes you have knock them down to build them back stronger.
I think sam was being a true asshole for the whole video, if I was sage I wouldnt be coming back after that
@@hamstirrer6882 Why are so many shouters here forgetting that Sam said he was "GIVING SAGE A 2ND CHANCE AT AN EQUIVALENT OR BETTER CAR?????"
That is MORE than fair, besides the fact that he gave Sage a full set of tools & toolbox for being "Runner Up." Rewarding people that lose in games or contests only builds a population of loosers!
TEACH SAGE how to troubleshoot, not just to 'do this' or 'replace that'..... Let him study and LEARN some troubleshooting skills and then come back for Game #2 and prove himself as a REAL WINNER, and be proud of what he has learned and accomplished in the process. That is the way to build self confidence and how we can build a nation of winners in our younger generations.
@@dalewalker4614 Sam's second chance is for the purpose of having more sport with Sage, not a lot more. Got everyone talking I'd have to say. Any "teaching" he gets from Sam on mechanical issues would be pretty useless, our Sam is no mechanical genius.
I expect your next video to be you giving Sage that car for 3 reasons: 1) That last sabotage items was nothing more than a dirty trick, 2) He would have made it out of the gate if you hadn't stopped him, 3) The number of comments saying that he deserves to win it
Once Sage got the car running and 5 minutes to go, he dinked around for several minutes before heading for the gate. A real WINNER wouldn't have let the possibility of anything going wrong make him lose. When you are close enough to see the finish line, don't let ANYTHING slow you down! The moment the car started Sage should have jumped in and drove through the winner's gate, THEN taken time to tidy things back up with 2 sets of keys and title in hand!
I don't know if anyone else caught it, but when Sam read the "Rules" and specified the car had to be driven the length of the pasture and out to the street, I knew Sam had a trick, er SOCK, up his sleeve! It was a DIRTY TRICK, more like a kick in the lug nuts!
Better luck in Round #2 Sage. Do your homework & watch diagnostic videos on CZcams to prepare. I cringed at some of the things that Chris did when ChrisFix channel first started, but he has become a good diagnostician and it's easy to learn from him.... Learn diagnostic skills, and show Sammy how it's done!
I loved the video!!! Your BEST yet!!! Keep them coming!!! I am a late subscriber just getting caught up on all of your videos.
Great Video Samcrac, it was fun to watch
Glad you enjoyed it
Give it to him! It ran and drove under its own power!
I was rooting for Sage! I had a 2008 Grand Prix GXP with the LS4 engine. Transmissions are the weakest link!
The 90 degree back doors combined with the fold down seats are a life saver!
This was really interesting. I would really like a sequal on this. In some form or another.
Sage you really did well.
I knew it was the mass airflow, I’m probably the same age as Sage, but I work for myself fixing cars, you learn so quickly like that, instead a few project cars.
Socks in the intake? Yeah, there’s a service bulletin for that one.
Sage wins by default.
really? I dont think so - did you watch the Hoonigans and their series? I mean its pretty obvious. Fuel, Spark, Air. Every single one of those isnt toooo hard to check. Schrader-valve for fuel, spark is just a test crank away and so on. From there just trace it back
You're very lucky to have a lad like sage , the chap can throw a hand to anything
I’m sure he throws a hand every night when he’s alone… 😄
@@Alexander_l322 lmao... sage the maniac. 😅👌

Sam that was too cruel for words! Poor guy, give him the car for goodness sake
Your very clever Sam i understood every step
This hurt, I was really rooting for Sage. That last puzzle was very hard.
Puzzle was hard, but the CLUES were crystal clear! Car can't breathe or fart = obstruction somewhere from intake to exhaust tip. Start looking.
This had me in the edge of my seat Sam !!! Great vid, I’d really like to see Sage even though he lost, have the chance to win it
Sam said he would give Sage a 2nd chance at winning a similar valued or more expensive car..... Why is everyone getting their knickers in a knot because Sam didn't give Sage the car for loosing the contest???
Losers shouldn't be given trophies, they should improve their craft and come back to compete another day! That is why they call it "competition" whether it be against another person, team or the clock. Let's help Sage become a bona-fide WINNER, not a momma's boy. Just my 3 cents.
@@dalewalker4614 agreed!!! So Sam it’s all up to you pal!!!

Come on now! Be a gentleman and give Sage the SS….. he totally deserves it.
That word deserve is interesting. He lost the contest. he doesn't deserve to take the car when he lost.
@@mexicanspec I totally understand where you are coming from but stuffing socks in a throttle body will never happen in the real life ever. Plus Sage has been with Sam for quite a while now and has helped in so many projects and contributed to the series success. In my opinion it was a cheap below the belt jab from Sam. He never wanted him to have the car in the first place.
@@dennismassey3259 who said the sabotage were real world problems? That is only talked about by the commenters here. The clue was obviously about the intake so why didn't he go directly to that?
You are not going to change the fact that he failed to get the car out and it is his fault and nobody elses.
He got his tool set and maybe he will get a second chance.
If it helps you sleep at night, just think of it as a blessing because that car might have cost him thousands restoring it.
Wow I was really hoping he'd get it. This was a good video very exciting and edge of your seat suspense.... I'd give him the car when he was done working on it though.

The cows just pulled up🤣🤣
Just purchased a 2009 Trailblazer SS. I really dig this one.
I can understand most of the disabled items you did to the car happening in real life, but having 2 socks stuffed in the throttle bottle is highly irregular and prone to never happening.
Ehh it could happen
Socks might be unlikely, but a rag is quite common.
Socks, true. But 18 months ago, "Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics" had a Malibu where a gasket spit and jammed the throttle body, causing a "disabled engine" condition. So, while the cause is unusual, the result isn't that far out.
He said he sabotaged it. He didn't say he broke it to make it look as natural as possible. He could have removed the engine; Sage wouldn't have noticed.
it is not so hard to make car run. air, fuel, ignition.
It is indeed an LS based V8. It's just an aluminum 5-3 setup for FWD. They even come with 243 castings (LS2/LS6). Any small-bore cathedral head will bolt on. You can even get an LS6 intake to fit with some modifications.
Yes...not many people realize this LS4 has the 243 casting Z06 heads!!
And make that 4T60 shit the bed before the thermostat opens up.
@@InsaneBimmer This car doesn't have a 4T60.
@@InsaneBimmer LS4 did not come with the 4T60; it has the 4T65. 4T60 came in older GM fwd vehicles from about early to mid 90's. The same with just about any other modified vehicle from this era, the transmission internals will have to be upgraded to handle the extra power...rather it's an "HD" version or not, the stock diff is too weak, since it's the same unit offered in the N/A 3.8L V6 (albeit a different TCU calibration). There are companies whom offer built versions to handle well over 400+whp; PATC, ZZP and several others.
@@SuperSportSS Correct, they are the same heads that came on the LS6, minus all of the fancy stuff (hollow sodium filled valves, etc).
Sage should have the extra hint of “throttling” Sam’s neck for giving him terrible clues 🤣🤣
Love this idea of winning it. You need to do more of these!!!!! Keep the grind 🦾
The only thing worse than losing the SS would've been winning one of Sam's BMWs!
The BMW was second prize.
@@gazzafloss It was the "Booby Prise."
Rules are rules... Sam did a really nice thing by making the car possible. Sage will learn through this experience. There is no participation 🏅 in life. He did earn a nice set of tools. He won either way.
He deserves the car in return for his boss putting a video on youtube humiliating him for his lack of mechanical skills so he can get more views. Personally, I'd have told him to f**k off and quit.
Sage, search youtube for "Fix it keep it", and you will learn a ton. Personally as soon as he said "fart" I would have checked the fuel wasn't disconnected, but he wouldn't let it pump gas all over the field, and that's "new" enough to have the damn thing in the tank. So fuses were the way to go. As for the air, I figured saran wrap on the filter, but the socks were a genius touch, and tbh I probably would have missed those. It's been 6 months and it's only 27k. I did my part, but I think you are hosed on a rematch for a while.
If I win it I'll give it to Sage.
20:00 fuel pump relay is unplugged? This is a really cool idea for a video series if you did it with millennials and gen zs with enough mechanical experience. You could do an entry test, like changing oil, air filter, tire, spark plug, etc to make it to the final challenge to win the Sabotaged car.
Or fuse?
@M J Exactly on point. It's hard to find Mills or Zs that can change a flat tire, let alone a spark plug.
My corolla runs a little rough, im going to go check for socks in the air box. Thanks for the tip Sammy
Good teaching aid...I guessed the last clue to be something with the MAF.
