totally agree with this. from a lifetime of martial arts i've always found that you have to exert strength from the most awkward and non optimal circumstances. hence why you're so sore after a grappling competition. such exercises would be considered "bad form" in modern calisthenics as it could lead to injury, but real world applications require such movements.

I also think gym culture is exactly like that. It's all about concentrated moves which you will never need in real life.
Kettlebells/maces/sandbags really let you have a natural flow in your excercises, while still being able to lift heavy weights that make sense.

This is just my personal opinion,
Rather than spending money on buying Indian clubs or Maces (since they're not readily available in stores in the USA), I purchased sledgehammers from my nearby hardware store. The hammers range from 3 lbs to 16 lbs. The weight isn't super heavy (I have barbells for truly heavy weight when training the large muscle groups), but gripping the hammer while swinging it one-handed is certainly challenging to my wrists and fingers.

Instead of all those "machines" and working select groups of muscles on a "back day" or a "leg day," whole body exercises that you demonstrate take up a hell of a lot less time and train the body far more fully.

I remember 4 years ago, when I was a gym meathead(not generalising this as a stereotype, but I myself have been one big meathead) just training strength every time and for some reason I got to help some workers carry 60kg bags of sand to my house,my strength was nothing, though I was the biggest guy out there,I couldn't care a single bag,no with my hands, not on my back, not at all, while the workers were some verry slim guys(you could see their ribs) they carried those bags like they were nothing, they could have taken 2 bags at once over their should and not struggle verry much.2 years later I got a different approach to my training routine,I changed to a mixt chalistenic routine with exercises that have other functions than just strength as well(for example endurance training, isometrics, grip training and more) and currently I found out that my strength(after 2 more years) has become verry verry functional,I can do pretty much anything a human body could be capable of,the strength I now have is verry versatile(and I still am aesthetic as well) like I can join any sport or activity that requires some type of strength and be good at it,I have great grip strengh(enough to crush a walnut with my thumb) I have great flexibility(enough to do high roundhouse kicks with perfect form or the middle splits, yoga techniques and more),I have great endurance to be able to run a marathon without a pause and more,my strength has become functional, and that's what I have aimed for,My strength has become true strength, not just a power to push a lot of kg at bench press
