Thanks so much, this video helped me to change a dead battery!!! My S&G D-lock is an older model dating back 2015 and there a slight difference in how you access the battery. The little black tab is in fact a cap which comes off to expose a gray tab underneath. The gray tab needs to be pulled out ( I found it easiest to use a pair of needle nosed pliers to gently grip the tab) and then one may turn the outer black ring counter-clockwise to expose the battery.

Thank you! This was way more helpful than Gardall’s customer service - they gave me incorrect information.

Thank you for the video, which is very helpful. I have a Chubb safe with a Sargent & Greenleaf Direct Drive Electronic Lock which looks exactly like this. The safe is around 20 years old, and until around 8 months ago, the batteries used to last for many years. But, in the past few months, I have had to change the alkaline batteries every month. Would you know why that is so? Oh, by the way, I gain access to the battery compartment by removing a Philips head screw which is mounted under the SG sign.

Thanks. It has been over 5 years since I had to replace the batter and I couldn’t remember how to get the black ring loose.
