They’re different things, but you really can’t go wrong either way.
Both great vehicles… the Genesis rides softer and is less money, the X3 has a more refined powertrain, handles better, is much faster, and gets significantly better gas mileage.
Brooklyn Grey looks like shiny primer to me.
@BrianMaske Really appreciate this review. Maybe I missed this, but was the X3 M40i on all seasons or winters? I'm assuming the former but you tell me ;-)
Thanks, Cameron. It was on some type of Blizzak IIRC. Here, BMW always puts winters on their vehicles, as most OEMs do, so through the winter in Canada I rarely try the OEM tire. That last Defender was a notable exception.
Great review Brian. I like the fact we know the opinions expressed are from a car guy who appreciates driver's car....guys like us, as you say. I'm deciding between the Alfa Romeo Stelvio (base, $70 k Cdn) and the Porsche Macan base ($79k with some options). For me, this X3 M40i builds out to $85k. Not quite apples to apples since inline 6 vs the 2.0's, but how do you think they compare?

These BMW straight six engines may be in running for best engines in the world amd transmission is smooth, almost makes me wonder why we need a real M trim. Still, as competent as this is, if I were in the market I go for base X5 and a little more size. Great review of a fine compact SUV, would this be your go to purchase if price was not a factor in this segment?
This is the vehicle I'd buy. Perfectly satisfying and it's so good that there's no need to jump up to the X3 M.

@@Cml12346 yes, this car was equipped with winter tires at the time I tested it and depending on where you live, you should always have separate summer and winter tires.

How is the long term reliability?
hated the red color interior, but now, it looks much "interesting" to me
I picked up mine 3 weeks ago and chose Alpine White over Brooklyn Grey. Not gonna lie, the grey looks too gloomy in person, trying too hard to be trendy. In my humble opinion, the Alpine white looks fantastic with the red seats. The steering and handling are underrated on this car, reminds me of my 2016 GTI.
I haven’t seen a white one in person, but the colour is irrelevant. Such an excellent SUV.

Not sure if you can use the word “hybrid” with this car. I have a 2022 m40i on order and I’m coming from a 2018 m40i so I guess I’ll see the difference.
Why?
It is most certainly a hybrid. And you get incredible gas mileage too! (considering the power, weight, etc)

Oem wheels on whatever winters BMW installed.

Yes.
How many miles does the hybrid get
Zero. It augments the gas motor and only adds power and harvest energy, but doesn’t drive the X3.

My production queue for April 2022 with delivery in May has been canceled. Because we invaded Ukraine. Was hoping to rock the m440i this summer... Btw that BG color is the most disgusting color I have ever seen, it makes me sick just looking at it.
