I am from Finland and don't know how they measure happiness there. I find the country silent, depressing, and very difficult to talk to people. Your country on the other hand I found very welcoming, socially warm, inviting, and beautiful in so many ways I can't write them all down here.

You are welcomed because you are a foreigner and if I assume, you might be white, you have certain benefits which the locals with their inferiority complex will provide you, they will be nicer to you, more welcoming and etc. because of the colonial mentality still prevailing amongs the population.

I am an American Expat living here in the Philippines for over 3 years. I have an SRRV visa and my Filipina wife and I bought a property/house west of Tagaytay.. To me, the best thing about the Philippines is it's people. Most of the people I have as friends are Philipinos. Yes, the traffic here is horrible, that is why I no longer drive here. My wife drive me or we hire one of our friends to drive me. We chose to live here because we are higher in elevation and it is cooler here.. We don't have a problem with flooding and Typhoons are not as bad as in many other areas. We love it here. Tagaytay has a good Medical Center with good Doctors and it doesn't cost much to see one. We love it here.

First of all, congratulations on getting to over 10 thousand subscribers, your channel is growing pretty fast.
Lots of good and honest advice as always with your shared experiences. I’ve only visited Manila three times and each time there was an issue with taxi drivers. One time I got out of the cab when he stopped at a red light. I left the door open until I got my case out of the boot. I have also had it in Cebu also, but only a couple of times out of many taxi rides. You do need to be aware of the scams, but that’s the same wherever you go. Healthcare was the main reason I’ve never moved there full time, but even in the UK now, the healthcare service is not like it was, and has long waiting lists.

    • @TheWallReports
      @TheWallReports Před 2 lety +3

I had a taxi scam attempt in Cebu back in 2019. This was my 1st ever visit to the Philippines. I stayed two weeks; I spent 1 week in Cebu and a week on Davao City. With the exception of that one instance the visit and taxi trips were great. Anyways, it began with me flagging down a taxi. After entering the cab, the driver ask did I mind if he turn off the meter? I replied I prefer he kept it on. He said where I was going would be cheaper if the meter was off. I told him I did not have a problem w/the metered rate. So he kept insisting on turning off the meter. I told him never mind and got out of the taxi. I flagged another taxi - an honest driver who took me where I wanted to go. Upon arrival I looked at the meter and paid him double what was on the meter. He immediate said I was paying too much money. I said, no it is the correct rate. I told him what happened with the previous taxi. As I was exiting his taxi I told him, because he was honest and did NOT try to scam me like the other taxi, I am paying him the his [the metered rate] fair and the fair of the other taxi because honesty does pay. Have a good day sir! He was stunned.
Weeks before my trip I did some research and learned of this meter scam so when it started to go down I know what was happening. At that time this scam was largely perpetuated by the taxis in Manila. I see it has spread and become more common in Cebu now.

Rubeauti listening to your negatives has reinforced my desire to live in a province area when I retire to the Philippines. Thankfully I am still in good health and have never smoked so I see smoking bans as a positive not a negative. I have ridden motorbikes all of my life so I believe owning a motorbike in the province will be ok and you said there are less corrupt traffic officers in the provinces 🙂. I have been looking at long term rentals and they are so cheap in the province that I would not need to buy property. In terms of longer visits before deciding to live there my plan is to do 3 month visits to different areas before deciding which one to settle in. Thank you so much for being honest about the downsides of living in PI but I still believe that the people and culture make it a very desirable retirement destination with a SRRV. God Bless.

Great video. Some sober discussion of the issues in your country. Who would voluntarily want to deal with that traffic stress regardless if you are a driver or pedestrian or just have to get somewhere? It seems like people are forgetting it's still a developing country. To me a reasonably working infrastructure is important, a clean environment, and a climate where I don't need constant showers due to excessive sweating. Those typhoons are also destructive and unpredictable. It's not for the faint of heart. The corruption would be very hard to tolerate as well for someone who has not had to deal with that their whole life.

    Miss Rubeati,
Thank you for sharing your experience, an eye opener for many..
Q: have you considered moving to middle size city?? I was in Dumaguete and except for the traffic I loved it there..you are correct, no traffic lights, no stop signs, it is actually amazing more accidents don't happen...I was in Dumaguete last month, and as bad luck happens, I landed in the emergency room on my first day arriving to the Philippines...I stayed at the Rovira Hotel, which I give it 4 stars, was excellent, room service was great, and so was the food..I order food to my room or by the pool all day...anyway, since my medical emergency happened late after 10pm, there were no taxis in the area so the front desk called the ambulance for me...the ride to the hospital was free, though I tipped them for the ride...I don't recall the name of the hospital, CDC I think?? but was told it was a private hospital so there were only a few people waiting ahead of me..I was seen within 20 minutes of arrival and was not asked to pay in advance..the cost was about $120.00 US and was seen by a doctor not a nurse..after I was attended, still no taxis, was after midnight so the ambulance gave me a ride to the hotel..ha,ha,ha..
In Dumaguete there isn't much trash, city is fairly clean...it rains about 3 times per week but usually short periods...the longer lasting rain typically happens at night...after 3 weeks there I became acclimated didn't feel so bad..for city travel I used trikes so the cost was about 40 pesos almost anywhere in town..
I also read that Dumaguete is considered one of the top 5 destinations in the world to retire..
3 weeks later I went to the same hospital for a follow-up and received good treatment by the same doctor..
On 2 occasions the taxi drivers tried to charge me a lot more so I passed on their service and waited on a trike instead...as an investor I've earned enough money where I'm not worried about cost, but don't like it when people want to take advantage of me simple bc I'm a foreigner.....thank you again for sharing your experience with us..
I'm a huge fan of your vlogs..
May the Lord bless and protect you, as I can sense your kind heart..

Duma medical is a joke. I don't even want to waste my time explaining why. Try having an accident there and see what happens. I know too much about it all.

Thank you for this video. It is informative, well organized, and funny. You have a nice voice for videos. Clear. Easily heard. Good enunciation. Deeper tone. ..... BUSINESS / LAND LAWS : Yes! Foreign owners of a business originating in the Philippines may own a maximum of 60% of the organization and profits, but never its real estate. However, foreigners can own 100% of a foreign company but with limitations. Considering your history with mainland Asians, Europeans, and perhaps some Americans, this is not a bad idea.

Some very good advice you give. My wife and I have a house out in the province but as I get close to the retirement age we're going to buy a condo in Manila to be near the better hospitals, hopefully never needing to use them. Pollution is a problem and so is dogs roaming around. You are right about the natural disasters, very worrisome . I have been there seven times but never more than 16 days, I'm going to start building up more more more time to see if I can take the Philippines all year round, that's why I'm keeping a small condo in America.

In regards to your comments about health insurance and treatment in the Philippines, another CZcamsr named The Filipina Pea did an interview with an insurance agent in either Dumagetti or Cebu. He stated that the best health insurance that you can get in the Philippines is Pacific Cross and the annual cost is between $12K and $15K. He also listed some of the benefits and that it is accepted in most hospitals in the Philippines and worldwide. BTW I just recently found your channel and so am a new subscriber. Great job.

Leptospirosis is rare here in the states, and most cases will present as the flu, but my brother contracted this disease and it almost killed him. It screwed up a valve in his heart and shut down his liver and kidneys. Specialists finally figured out what it was and gave him medication and he got better.

When it rains, I stay home or if I need to go somewhere I catch a trike and carry an umbrella. I also wear vinyl shoes to protect my feet from all the street bacteria. Don't want to catch a staphylococcus infection on my skin.
