- Three bishops want to make a local stone a holy relic; Father Ted must keep some of the other fathers in line.
Beloved sitcom focused on three priests living on Craggy Island, a remote island off the west coast of Ireland. Father Ted Crilly is sent to the island as punishment for using charitable funds for a holiday in Las Vegas, but his true punishment comes in the form of Father Dougal Maguire and Jack Hackett, one a fresh-faced naive young priest, and the other a foul-mouthed, rage-filled alcoholic. Mrs Doyle is their nosy housekeeper, who makes plentiful pots of tea and never takes `no' for an answer. Despite their isolation, the priests get into their fair share of mildly sinful, entirely madcap adventures.

Three bishops enter a parish. One leaves in an ambulance, another in a Hippymobile, and the last in a hearse.
"i thought that went pretty well"
It was an apocalyptic show, i think ! Lol
The second one in a arse....
It’s like the start of an old joke you’d hear at the pub
Makes me wonder if the dead bishop was embalmed on the spot or the funeral employees opted to just place him in the casket when he could have been carried in another ambulance..
"Dougal, do you know if we have any incense?"
- "...there was a spider in the bath last night."
Somehow even more hilarious when you consider spiders aren't even insects to begin with.
I can watch all Father Ted episodes over and over again and each time I have watched one I also spend some time reading all the comments, because it makes me so happy that Father Ted is making so many people so happy too ;) Peace & Love!
Every so often, I see people commenting that they never saw Father Ted until "now", and they Love it! It's fun to remember back, so long ago..., MY first time, finding FT... 💕💜💕💜💕
What’s your favourite humming noise then?
Glad to know there's people out there like me LOL
Well your comment would be an ecumenical matter.
You’re right there! Same here
Three Bishops down...One killed, one taken off the path of righteousness, and one violated by a rock. Perfect Father Ted episode :)
Just another day at the Parish
Does anyone publicly keep count of the characters killed off in this series? :D
@@orderinchaos They had to ditch half the list because Larry always suffers.
went pretty well, I thought!
Three bishops destroyed.
Father Ted: Went very well I thought.
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Fun fact: Kevin Moore who plays bishop O'Neil is the last living one of the three actors who played the bishops, and he ironically gets paired with ardal o Hanlon who is in turn the last surviving actor of the three priests
That's not a fun fact :/
@@captainobvious8264 depends on how you look at it, wether you think of it as 4 of them being dead or 2 being alive.
In the episode one, I suppose, Father Ted went to a fortune teller with father Dougal, and the fortune teller revealed 3 cards with a reaper for father Ted. We know what happened with the actor soon after the last episode of the sitcom. :/
@@justyna8156 so apparently, Dermot Morgan's death could have been predicted in his own show?
@@justyna8156 and there is also another episode wherein Ted visits another priest who dies of a heart attack shortly after Ted leaves.
"If you could just give us a bit of a warning when you're going to do anything sudde-"
"AHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
I love how Father Jack's hair is on fire, and they aren't bothered by it in the least
I wonder how difficult it must've been for Frank Kelly to play that part; I mean, fire is pretty hot at that distance.
One dead, one violated and one gone 'native'. The Irish sense of humor is incomparable!
I just 'discovered' this show (I'm American) and holy shit, is it funny.
Something special about this show. There’s a warm nostalgic feeling watching this. Sad how many of them have passed...
Agreed. And it still feels that way today in '21. It's a jewel.
Something about this show is so cozy to me. Like a rainy Sunday.
😂😂😂 I will never stop watching this series is wonderfully great! Thanks for sharing, greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
"Here we are now... tea for everyone..." Strolls through room. This show was hilarious.
Dougal's scream and jump at Bishop Jordan is, in my opinion, the single funniest moment of the entire show.
Paul Eaton That’s what I find brilliant about this technique (I’m assuming it’s Arthur Matthews since he continues it in Toast of London). A joke is set up in such a way that it is made very obvious that something is coming, but when it happens it still floors you.
"Dougal, we are not watching Aliens!"
The bishop's moaning and groaning as Ted berates Dougal🤣
Paul Eaton I counter with "I've got to kick Bishop Brennan up the arse!", personally.
It brings tears to my ears. One of the greatest moments indeed.
I want Dougal's "It's a Priest thing, you wouldn't understand" t-shirt.
I've learned so much about bishops. They love sc-fi!!
"Well, that's the bit i have trouble with." One of the greatest lines in comic history. This was an absolutely wonderful show, both hilarious and substantive.
This is up there with my very favourite episodes of any TV show ever. Ted trying to teach Jack how to get through a conversation with a bishop, Mrs Doyle not being able to see a goddamn thing, the Ferrero Rocher ad reference, someone being 'lured' to the Holy Stone, the Fawlty Towers-esque result of the bishops' visit, and a perfect summary of why religion is so preposterous from Dougal. Absolutely timeless.
"That's the great thing about Catholicism - it's so vague, and nobody really knows what it's all about."
As a catholic Bishop iam deeply offended. It is also about fighting Satan, Witchburning and collecting Souls.
@@ABW941 Hahahahaha!
@@Stowerslemalu As an atheist i laughed more than you 😊
@@Stowerslemalu wow after that witty reply i must concede . Not bad for a protty .
@@robertsmalley8138 its not as funny unless you're protestant
You know, I'm starting to think fathers Ted, Jack and Dougal are agents of pure chaos
DOUGAL WE ARE NOT WATCHING ALIENS!
It makes sense in context.
I've been watching this show for years and I can't believe I only just realised what Jack did to the third Bishop (with the holy stone) hahaha
This was such a funny episode! I thought the holy stone was a giant boulder until they showed a tiny rock on a stand.
Totally! 🤯 😏 Totally thought it was a huge standing stone. That was brilliant; the writers were excellent! This show was funnier, more entertaining and better written than Faulty Towers was. IMO.
At 5:00 Frank Kelly is doing some excellent “out of focus background acting” there. That’s one of the things I love about this series; all the “hand acting” they do where you just see the actors hand and nothing else-like the picnic episode where the guy points to “no swearing” on the list; theres a few episodes where Ted does some “hand” acting; and an episode with John and Mary; also the “fake hand” soccer match episode. I never thought about it until I heard the writers/creators of the show mention it in the DVD commentary.
That is the most appropriate reaction to Aliens coming on.
it's the Director's Cut !
How Ted looks furiously at Dougal after his head got flushed always gets me haha
The last shot of the episode is just brilliant
Don't know about you guys, but Ted imitating Jack "GIRLS" is quite funny to me...
That rock was upgraded to class 2 and the price of the visit went immediately up...just like a restaurant being awarded a Michelin star //-))
This show is HILARIOUS; but, this episode is the ABSOLUTE best!!
This might be my favorite episode of any TV show ever
Love this episode too!
I remember early reviews saying Dougal and the rest of the cast had the best, funniest lines but I think any true fan likes Ted the best. The subtle humour of the line ‘Maybe it only works when my head is in it’ cannot be overstated.
It is very well acted, the cast are pretty resourceful. Trying to coerce Father Jack to say 'would' is brilliant timing.
Absolutely, man , absolutely.
And that whole build up at 8:46 to ‘it won’t work no’ is absolutely brilliant. Dougals line just before is good, but it just leads to teds great response.
Or even the part at 22:26. Ted explaining it is off the charts hilarious
Dougal saying Eamonn instead of amen 😂
4:11 - The person "lured" to the Holy Stone of Clonrichert is called Paddy Shortt - namesake of the actor that plays Tom, the "I shot JR" guy.
Bishops love Sci-Fi :D
Are we not going to talk about Dougal's He-Man bed sheets??
The body count on this sitcom is stunning
And half of it comes from just Father Larry Duff!
I love this show with all my heart, it's my absolute favorite. No matter how many times I watch it, it still makes me laugh.
Wishing all the best to everyone in the comment section.
Every time I get sad, I watch it, too. Enjoy!
Best episode of Father Ted. In mho.
My god they not only killed a bishop, turned one into an atheist, and ummm the other thing. They also got jack to say new words!
That last one is the real miracle.
FECK!
That would be an ecumenical matter
Jack is so badass he doesn't hesitate to attack bishops, like when he punched bishop Brennan
“That’s the great thing about Catholicism: it’s so vague, nobody really knows what it’s all about.”
I know a good many Catholics who would agree that that’s the great thing about it.
However, at times it can be vague in unbelievable detail.
All religions are the same. They just want as much money and power as they can get. Long live the truth, atheism.
Father Jack Hackett is the best actor 🤣 he is just consistently playing the best nutter
I used to watch this show all the time growin up in England, Ahh I missed it so much.
That and DBZ, right?
@Vishnujana Dasa its an all Irish show written for english television. The irish tv service would not commission it at the time and probably wouldnt commission it now either. They have no clue of good tv.
@@OnyxVenator ok jjkjj.ñbvj23zlv3vavavoaoac all we ewx823e
@@mhyaflynch Nope. It wasn’t commissioned for English television.
@@DavidSharpMSc you're right. It was commisioned by a british production company for Irish and British tv.
one of the best episodes of this show
Does anyone else think Dermott Morgan was so handsome
Oh yes!
I cannot get over those teeth. so... eek.
Yessssss
He reminds me of Dave Allen the comedian. They look so much alike I thought that was who played Ted.
@@Summerdontknowme oh yeah fair call. it would make sense too dave allen was big on ripping religion to shreds
13:20
timestamp for myself when I need a hilarious string of comedy
Damn, when Father Jack's hair caught on fire, and the other two just sitting there like it was a common occurrence caused me to lose it!
😆
lol I love dougals pajamas
Justin Reyez I’m not a priest, so I don’t understand.
Moogie B I believe you completely missed the joke.
"DOUGAL, WE ARE NOT WATCHING ALIENS!!!"
Its so hard to tell people about Father Ted: Its this hilarious comedy about Irish Catholic Priests!Topped only by trying to explain Hogan's Heroes!
I've watched this episode many times. And I'm going to watch it again!
I married into the Irish and have been there numerous times. Lovely people and country. I love this show.
Father Jack is the best hahaha...drink!!!
That would be an ecumenical matter.
Yes!
You bet yer feckin arse he is!
Drink
Feck
Girls
Arse biscuits!
Makes me wonder how father Larry is able to survive several life threatening accidents while bishop Jordan ended up getting killed at the end of this episode
Jordan is Kenny
That wou -- drink!
"It's a priest thing, you wouldn't understand".
Where can I get a t-shirt like that?
I love that line so much i had to send it to all my friends.
poetic final scene, 3 bishops visit and the conclusion is 1 leaves his faith in a combie van, one leaves in a hearse and the other leaves in an ambulance. Visiting Ted and co is dangerous
"Here we are now, tea for everyone!"
And Mrs. Doyle rounds the bishops, races through the exit and there she goes!
Dougal's bath.
Hes like a big Dennis the Menace.
"How much of a distance?"
- "Couple of miles?"
Probably my favourite episode of the whole, fantastic, show!
I love it 🤣🤣🤣🤣so funny
that would be an eccumenical matter hahahahaha - mad as hatters!
Mrs Doyle rules
That's the bit I have trouble with.... Hilarious!!!!
"No, someone was LURED there."
Mrs. Doyle is hilarious!!
Well done DP. Thanks for fecking everything.
"That would be an...ecumenical...YES!"
this is my favorite father ted episode
oh my God, Dougal has He-man bed sheets.
Bishop ran away with hippies 😂😂😂🤣
Call him Eddie, not Bishop.
the episode in which the trio advance the interests of humanity immensely, 1 dead, 1 awakened and one on the receiving end of a rectal blessing for a change. Yes Ted, that went very well indeed.
Haven't laughed so much in years, Hahahahaha!
Every time Father Ted calls someone on his phone I get ready for someone to get seriously hurt! 😱
That would be an ecumenical matter!
YES
I wish they would have had more of Father Noel on it. But this is a hilarious series.
Oh Lord...feckin brilliant!
This is like a drunken version of The Miracle Worker and Pygmalion.
Just discovered Father Ted a month ago and I love it. Drink!
This is one of the best episodes that at least I have seen from Father Ted !! The late Christopher Hitchens must have lóved it !
Yassss. We Atheists cant get enough lol.
The ghost story at the start. I heard a strange creaking noise from the far corner of the room. Was it a ghost? No.
The beginning with the ghost stories is priceless and there's laughter when lightning comes through the window and curtain, wondering if there is a figure there for a brief moment...opinions ?
@@christopherheinig5590 Probably Mrs Doyle falling off the window sill again.
Wow I just realized that father jack is really Vivian from the young ones in his old age
haha what an ending. its amazing how much goes on in that one parish house
pepe6666 get bent
Wow I think this is the only one I hadn't seen. Amazing
It flushes just like our house here in Bangkok. LOL
The photo on the wall @11:55 is of John Wayne when he made the movie "The Quiet Man" in Ireland.
Classic, and it was great to see the Cliffs of Moher, take me back to County Clare once again
Irony : nowadays father Ted maybe is a ghost, hunting father dougal
Insert Fthr Dougal 's "Wooowww!"
@@craffte father dougal reminds of my self in the 90s.
You could ask " were you a priest? "
" no I was really dumb "
Sad but true
Thanks so much for putting these up.
It's a sinister episode with all the talk about heart attack when after filming for the last episode of the last season Morgan will die of a heart attack at the age of 45...
Actually (spoiler alert) the series has two one time characters dying of a heart attack.
"Bloody hell!" "Good news, Ted?"
Love Dougal
Like in the episode where Fr. Ted gets off the phone after hearing he's getting the Golden Cleric award; he excitedly hangs ups the phone and turns to Dougal, "You aren't going to believe this!"
Dougal: "You're getting married!"
Fr.Ted: "No Dougal." 😔
"Bishops love sci-fi!"
I want Dougal's t-shirt!
I have watched the series numerous times and I found a blooper!!!!! At 5:53 onwards you see an empty chair without Father Jack! It is also a different chair that we see Jack leave to light his cigarette!!
That DRINK!
Fantastic episode especially the beginning where they talk about ghost stories ! Great series wish there were more thank you for sharing !
7:15 & 7:35 - NEC P100 ETACS analogue handset. I had the very same phone back in '96.
