Top 10 Ice Barrier Cards in YuGiOh

- Ice Barriers are an archetype of monster who for years were known as some of the worst main deck monsters in the game, but were infamous for their insanely powerful extra deck. Along with the fact that many years later they finally received good support that somewhat changed the overall opinion on the archetype, this video will go over the best from this well-known archetype

1:43 "The archetype is not very good"
7:15 "Ice barriers are considered bad, despite good cards"
10:17 "The archetype is horrible"
It's like they were testing the deck as they made this list and gradually grew to hate it more.
Lore wise, their synchro is too powerful and scary the ice barrier tribe tried to seal it. And then future support looks like they envy of how other archetype used their synchro monster and started to "attempt" to abuse it.
@@cbbblue8348 so that’s why they’re so bad and now actually playable
Ah, this brings me back to college many years ago overhearing someone arguing "Brionac? How? Your deck doesn't even have tuners for it!"
"It does"
"Which card?"
"Effect veiler"
"You must be truly desperate to summon me"
@@patriotnguyen2721 Can imagine either Effect Veiler or Brionac would say that
Finally, my local deck is finally talked about! I have faith in this deck with future support.
What do you think about adding icejade cards? I'm currently gonna add some deep sea minstrel and that spell that came out in the tins deep sea aria? But I need a halq still
I agree i enjoy the ice barriers
Lol you sound like an investor with a bad company
I personally use General Raiho of the Ice Barrier with Mega Fortress Whale in my Umi Control deck. Or even Electric Jellyfish. In a monster-effect heavy meta, it helps out against some decks.
Your wish is granted 😎
Wayne actually does have 1 Ice Barrier trap he can search.
That being Ice Barrier
Which is funny, because it’s not an Ice Barrier card by lore, but is by name.
Maybe the real Ice Barrier is the friends we made along the way
Isn't that a manga/anime-only card?
@@Xaiff they’re printing it for the real game.
It searches Royal Knight tho.
It can be banished from the grave to search Royal Knight and on the field it can reduce to 0 the ATK of the token that Royal Knight summons to the opponent's field.
It is the _perfect_ Ice Barrier trap card.
Well, this was certainly an *ice* video to get on my feed.
Stay *cool,* DuelLogs.
Arnold Schwarzenegger ice jokes ...
Yay!! An ice pun! Just-ICE is served 😆
Take my like and get out of here
Trishula, Dragon of The Ice Barrier is probably the most well known card from this archetype
Brionsc has joined the chat
Yeah it even has 4 different versions of its self ( Trishula,Dragon of Icy Imprisonment, Evilswarm Ouroboros, Nekroz of Trishula and Trishula, Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier.)
@@scarletsage6267 Yeah
@@rainbowdragon168 oh minor correction it has four
Or “Trish” to her friends
Medallion is kinda like Snake Rain: broken in concept, but tied to a deck that can't really take advantage of it.
I so wish Ogdoadic had some way to respond to anti-graveyard floodgates. The deck is so much fun and it's one of the few that use main deck boss monsters.
Reptile isn’t an archetype
Literally just an archetype specific RotA. Not really broken. RotA is powerful because it's semi-generic and Level 4 Warriors aren't a scarce part of the game.
@@brianaguilar8283 Dinosaur is, might as well have Reptile be one.
Is it really that broken I mean it’s just like stratos
That structure deck really helped make ice barriers playable I still hope for more support and maybe a retrain of royal knight (The worst ice barrier card that exist)
You can't retrain perfection
I bought that new structure a month ago, and I like the deck I made. The plus side of having friends that don't play meta decks, except that one nut job that enjoys it, I just made a deck to screw with his one meta deck
I just really like the art in those cards lol. Especially the new support cards.
While the Ice Barriers did receive a great amount of good cards after 10 years, their best play is mostly summon Toad (at least 2 in the TCG becauss Toad is limited here in the OCG) and Borreload Savage in one turn instead of going for any of the Ice Barrier Synchros.
Oh boy, expecting Ratta to slap down some counter cards here to this video.
Royal knight has entered the chat room
"Next up is Brionac. Breeonac. Breohnic. F*** it. Dragon of the Ice Barrier. It's not actually Dragon-type, but 'Sea Serpent of the Ice Barrier' did not sound threatening enough."
Guess Duel logs was not prepared for the awesomeness of ROYAL KNIGHT OF THE ICE BARRIER!
Duellog: Ice Barrier is probably 1 of the worst architypes of all time
Also Duellog: Anyway here is a top 10 best cards
Was until new support came out.
Well, might as well make a top 10 best cards from every single archetype. That would be fun, especially for non-competitive player like me. :D
The best of the worst.
What's next? Top 10 Ally of Justice !?? =))
@@ineedslim9265 So 9 not so great/situationally useful cards and Catastor?
This kind of video makes me want to see a series of “Archetype - Why It’s Good/Bad”.
A friend of mine wants me to get into yugioh so I bought a structure deck last week to get me started and that stucture deck had a bunch of Ice Barrier cards in it. Thank you for this video, it will surely help me improve my structure deck if I decide to play the game more.
Freezing Chains is one of my favorite structure decks.
It's hilarious that self-bouncing is so powerful that even cards belonging to garbage archetypes (such as Genex Ally Birdman or Ice Barrier Synchros) need to be banned/limited or get an errata.
Don't forget Harpies
@@drakofox1362 Harpies can use a Dragon Ruler, your argument is invalid.
@@shis1988 I meant that they was weak at the start till they got bouncers
I think it's because Brionac doesn't have any connection to Ice Barrier aside from its name. This means it is extremely splashable to any deck that could abuse its effect.
@@shis1988and they’re still bad
the chains protection effect is actually suprisingly not that hard to pull off, if you aren't playing competitevly that is
Priar deserves a mention for having a Monster Reborn effect that isn't a HOPT
It locks you out though. That you cannot SP summon lvl 5 or higher monsters when special summoned from the hand.
Video ideas:
1- top 10 cards that combat the dragon type/ a specific type.
2- talk about the problem of the unfair advantage that players gain when they go first and how that can be fixed, maybe top 10 going second cards/anti meta cards.
3- top 5 decks to not make tier 0 (I know you don't like this type of videos, but the one you made was very successful)
Wouldn’t Dragon Rulers make number 1 on non tier zero decks?
@@Apollo1989V them or Nekroz.
Wait are there even 10 tier zero decks?
All I remember is teledad, pepe, d rulers, nekroz and spyral
@@cocojumbo90210 he’s talking decks that almost made tier 0.
@@cocojumbo90210 we're Zoodiacs ever tier 0?
I got myself an Ice Barrier deck with the recent events and I gotta say, the archetype really improved.
Also, anyone else noticed General Wayne looked like Batman, and is named Wayne?
Actually, Wayne was originally X-Saber Wayne, so it is more likely he was named after the legendary western genre actor John Wayne. BTW, on edopro I refer to him like that whenever someone summons him. Many don't get the reference at first.
@@valutaatoaofunknownelement197 Really? Man, Duel Terminal lore has really come a long way.
@@redwardranger7034 I mean, I began playing after duel terminal ended, and well X-Saber Wayne wears a cowboy hat and has a revolver for his gun.
@@valutaatoaofunknownelement197 I learned of DT upon getting a Gem Knight deck back on 5D's era. Still, I'm surprised about Wanye becoming a General. I may still call him Batman from time to time tho
ahh the days of Trishula being everywhere. When enemies just forfeited the round if you where able to summon it and used desynchro :D
loving these top ten archetype lists, keep them up
I love the artwork and style of the ice barriers, and i would love to see them recieving more support in a future
In my opinion they need a good lvl3 monster (for synchro plays or with synergy for the hexa spirit effect) and maybe some retrains of the old cards. Their design is too amazing (especially the mirror of the ice barrier) to be that bad
(Sorry for my bad english)
I'm hoping maybe the future water booster packs have something in it for them but i'm not crossing my fingers
I gather the main deck monsters being weak in contrast to the extra deck monsters has lore reasons (where the Ice Barrier people are guarding three powerful sealed away dragons).
Ayyyy Thank you for making a video about my favorite archetype 😄
I like how you showed how Deloran was broken with an example of a combo. Good work keep it up!
Thanks for the useful dueling information chief! I got a Crosscut Designator recently and my cousin runs this structure deck!
TDL: "We're gonna go over the BEST Ice Barrier cards."
Me: "Other than Trishula Synchro?"
TDL: "Number 10: General Wayne of the Ice Barrier."
Me: "BATMAN?!?!"
icy batman
General Wayne’s secret identity is X-Saber Wayne. But don’t leak it to any one else 👀
This archetype and I have quite the history. Brionac was the first Ice Barrier monster I pulled from HA1 when it first came out, and that resulted in me hunting down every Ice Barrier card that exists😂 The most notable “…woah dude” moment, was when a friend of mine and I bought two HA4 packs, but instinctively I told him,” Give me your pack.” He did and I held it and mine for a few seconds and handed his back and said: “Trishula is in both of them.” He opened his and first card was Trishula. He looked at me all shocked and said, “….no f-ing way…” Then I opened and flipped it over, there again was Trishula.
Dueling wise though before Brio and Trishula’s banning, people who played avoided playing with me because more times than not I ended up restricting whomever I was dueling against from being able to do anything. So they either decked out or I board wiped them and attacked for game.
I still have them (and of course the new ones), can’t believe it has been 12 years since first getting my Brio.
You have the pre-errata version? 0_o
@@erickblaw6708 Yep! Pulled it from Hidden Arsenal 1 and I believe it was my 3rd pack I got him. Literally everyone and their mother tried to get him off me, and even when he got banned, which made me stop playing, people still tried. I got a second one from a friend of mine, but not from Hidden Arsenal, and all she said was: “This is your monster, I’m not worth holding it.” 😂
this makes me so happy since i play ice barriers mainly
I watched all 219 (I think?) top tens you made, thanks for all the effort you put in these, I can only imagine the amount of research it took. You really offered a lot of entertainment to us all. I learned lots about yugioh even if I only play duel links now and stopped with the tcg around 2011.
Great vid DuelLogs, I hope we get some of these new Ice Barrier cards in Duel Links someday.
I quite enjoy these videos. It's fun to hear how the game has changed since I played sort wants me to get back in casual play. I'm wanting to build a dragon deck but cant seem to find video on top dragon cards. Hoping someone will make one one day.
I think the deck you're looking for is Dragon Link. I've heard it mentioned by Hardleg Joe and Hardleg Joe number 2
I may have look into that one. I'm big fan of red eyes darkness metal, Trishula, and Fang of Critias cards
Thanks for the video. I love to see someone talk about gungnir so much. I love Ice barriers cause of their aesthetics, and because i like the playstyle. Most people think its bad, horrible, or whatever, but in all honesty, there are ways, at least in the meta at that time, where you can completely shut down your opponent.
For example, if you have defender, secret guards and the dai-sojo on the field your ice barrier monsters are immune to spell and trap cards, cannot be targetet by monster effects and cannot be attacked with monsters, that have higher attack, then their defence stats. This only leaves very niece cards, like sasuke samurai, or non targetting monster effects like rose dragon for your opponent. And even when he wipes your board, prior of the ice barrier turns surface into monster reborn for ice barriers, so its pretty fast back on board. But there are holes in the stun effects that can be used to break through, and they are pretty slow. And for me this is good game design. Its not the most powerful, and it does not prevent your opponent from playing, it just protects you from your opponents effects. And if you wanna have this defensive playstyle this is (in my oppinion) how an archetype should be designed.
Its sad, that it gets reduced to its powerful synchro monsters so much.
As a big fan of Gagagigo, I'd love to see a top 10 cards featuring Gagagigo or Gigobyte in the artwork. Hell, he's in so many cards, you could make Gigobyte and Gagagigo separate lists.
Uuu that would be really nice ngl
Top 10 Cards with effects that have nothing to do with their archetype’s theme
Verte anaconda, wind up hunter, gem knight lapis lazuli
Batteryman C
Ally of Justice Spellcaster
@Supreme King true it really doesn’t help predaplant u could ban it and it won’t hurt the deck anaconda offers no consistency or predator counters
@Supreme King that’s mainly for super poly that u understand mainly anaconda purpose was to activate super poly from the deck
I always loved how ice barriers worked.
They were about lockdown and board controll on their main deck monsters, and on dealing killing blows, mostly effect wise, with their extra deck.
And the art was gorgeous!
Sadly their main deck was way to situational for most of their time...
Im so happy for their new support!
it's a bit disappointing that the artwork on the new cards isn't quite like that of the old ones
Great video man
This was actually the first archetype I ever played with, and it served me well when me and my friends were still new to the game. Nowadays, I still have a place in my heart for the few times I was able to summon Trishula Zero.
Please do Top 10 most used link monsters or Top 10 non-Number XYZ monsters or Top 10 fusion monsters that can only be brought out by polymerization !
I have been requesting these lists for quite a while so please pay attention to it !
Interesting list! I'm surprised that Trishula and Brionac are not in your top 10 videos ban list.
Prior of the Ice Barrier is easily the best target for Hexa's effect. You can special summon any Ice Barrier monster once you revived Prior thanks to that Marinces Link Monster.
It makes no sense why prior has that stupid cant ss level 5 or higher restriction did konami forget ice barriers are a sychro based deck?
@@inusan2198 Scratch that, Did Konami forget the plethora of main deck level 5 or higher monsters?
One of my all time faves is gungnir. I loved having him as an alternative to BRD by comboing Twilight Rose knight and Aromage Rosemary. The discard helped setup the grave for plants especially well
You know what's funny? You could kind of consider Adamancipator Risen - Dragnite to be a spiritual sucessor to Brionac. Sure, it's full potential can only be realize in rock decks and it's mostly known for its omni-negate, but not a day goes by that I don't appreciate it's non-targeting bounce effect. No matter what crazy new boss monster that can't be targeted or destroyed comes out (i.e. Dragoon and recently, Destroy Phoenix), I can always take solace that my boss monster with the 3rd/4th best monster removal in the game can deal with it.
Great vid btw. XD
The whole Ice barrier Archetype is like: "The Medallion that we are not deserved for." Nice video, I don't know IB got those new main deck monster.
I remember pulling a brionic from some of the first packs I ever got, I still have him today in pre eratta form, definitely one of my favorite synchros

@TheDuelLogs: General Wayne can search the trap card "Ice Barrier" as it's part of the Archtetype
Wait it is?
@@danwolf4045 It was used by Alexis in the GX manga, who used Ice counters cards, and it debutted in the manga way before the Ice Barrier archetype even existed and has nothing to do with it.
@@mateusrp1994 it has the name. But is not an archetypal trap. That’s mentioned in the joke he made. You can search it, but it’s generic water support
I'd like to make a point for the Generals as whole, they were really good at the time of debut, being hurt by being high level main deck monsters:
• Gantala special summons an Ice Barrier from the GY every end phase.
• Grunard is an extra normal summon for an Ice Barrier Monster during the main phase on a soft once per turn.
• Raiho can be used to really good results. If the opponet resolves a monster effect activated on the field, then they must discard a card or the effect is negated.
I hope to see one day Top 10 Number cards. Started rewatching Zexal and when he brought out Number 39 and Number 17 it made me think what the best were
Cool video! Am I the only one who noticed that Duel Logs said Warrior instead of Water when talking about Revealer?
This gives me hope for top 10 Dream Mirror cards!
P.D: top 1 most adorable cards: 1- Hexa Spirit of the Ice Barrier
Its really telling just how bad ice barriers are when one of their top 10s isn't even an ice barrier outside of thematics
I think we all knew what 1 and 2 was gonna be, but it was cool seeing your choices. I also think I would have put them in the spots you did, not saying what they are in case someone reads this before watching
I feel like this video was specifically made for me and all 4 Ice Barrier players out there.
I loved Brionac so much when I had my six samurai deck because i can discard and bring them out the graveyard with Hatsumi
Cool! So can we do Cyber Dragon next? It's my deck since I was young
This list feels like a personal gift to me. You know how I love WATER archetypes.
I have an Ice Barrier deck irl, and yes, I keep three copies of all the Main Deck cards mentioned here. Plus I splash "Trishula" into just about every Extra Deck, so long as the Main is Synchro-capable. It's got to be one of my favorite cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! history. During one of my rare actual duels, I managed to summon "Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier" and "True King Bahrastos, the Fathomer" first turn. I can't even remember whether I won that duel, but I felt like the King of Games 😎
Two other main deck monsters I feel deserve mention:
-Warlock of the ice barrier; while you control another ice barrier it's an anti spell fragrance
-Prior of the ice barrier; this card is central to combo ice barrier decks, since it can revive any ice barrier in the gy, and being a level 2 aqua with 1000 atk it can itself be summoned by cards like coral anemone and surface
Before i switched to duel links I remember I used to love playing Gustos True Dracos and Ice Barriers because of how fucky they play or how they can lock your opponent down if they underestimate you. It was always fun pulling out defender, secret guards, the lv6 that says nope to spells/traps, and gantala to just say no to destroying your monsters.
Nice vid, although some tg players will surely argue about 1dt&2nd place and btw(youtube 4th&5th timestamps should be swapped)
Could you do a video on the new Sunseed/Sunvine/Sunazalea archetype? I think it has lots of potential, it just needs something that can kick it off.
2:24 accidentally said Revealer restricts you to summoning Warrior monsters instead of Water.
Also you couldn't summon Dewdark with Revealer and attack directly due to the level restriction Dewdark has for attacking directly (can't control anything over level 2).
What if Revealer is linked to a water Link 1? Woul Dewdark be able to do it then?
@@HazeEmry I don't think so since it says "if the only face-up monsters you control are level 2 or lower..." A link monster doesn't have a level but Dewdark requires it to have one to attack directly.
Oh boy cant wait for the 5th time where TheDuelLogs explains to me why handripping in so good on Trish's effect.
It's an archetype specific video so it can slide
9:06 I use it with my Thunder Dragon deck too to use the banish combo of Thunder Dragondark and Roar. It's a good option if you somehow can't do any plays with the monsters on your field. Lol.
I miss playing YuGiOh before it got into insanity. I remember my old deck, Wetlands Lockdown.
Basically a Level Restriction deck with Wetlands. Used cards like Cryomancer and Gravity Bind to lockdown the board, Dewdark and Submarine Frog were my high attackers , and Starboy to buff my monsters even more. Was a rather casual deck, but it was fun. XYZs hurt the strategy a lot, too bad Defender of Ice Barrier wasn't level 2. Lol
Man I never knew that Revealer of the Ice Barrier was a Rota target, being a Warrior type Awesome! Lol
Here's a fun video idea:
"Top 10 cards that would be banned if it wasn't for their archetypes/being main deck monsters"
Ahh ice barriers, just the perfect Halloween archetype.
Would still love you to cover Red-Eyes at some point.
Time for an episode of aged but one of my favorite archetypes
My physical deck in real life 😍😍 ty for the video
General Raiho should've been top 10. It can negate a monster effect unless the opponent discards 1 card to bypass it's negation.

@@zeroomega3781 Infernity disagree with Dark World lol.
You should do like a Top 10 best cards to come off the Forbidden list
Yesss I own an ice barrier deck! It's quite fun to play.
I can summon Trishula with like 2 cards, the trick with them is you have to make sure you replace cards you discard and utilize revealer's gy effect to avoid the discards. You also have to play some non ice barrier cards, as he said there aren't enough good ones. :p
2:14 Warrior Monster? (Edit) I love how you're replacing Water with Warrior xD
I have some custom cards I want you to rate, when are you doing the streams for them again?
Please do Worm next 😍
Top 10 Yugioh Monsters with the Most Fusions (Basically monsters with the most appearances as fusion materials for Fusion monsters)

I'd love to see the top 10 best cards of the worst archetypes
Im surprised General Raiho wasn’t on the list. Every time an opponent’s monster effect is activated, regardless of where it triggers from (hand/GY), unless they discard 1 for it, Rahio auto-negates it. Unless of course it’s a continuous effect then he can’t negate that.
I was hoping Ice Barriers would be stronger but I still love the archetype anyway. The artwork is really cool
Hell yes, my favourite TCG archetype of all time 🔥🔥
Would love to see a Ghostrick video
They wanted the main deck monsters to not be able to summon the extra deck one's because of lore. But they did not take it far enough. They should have been an anti extra deck deck. To stop other decks in their tracks from summoning from the extra deck. Small, puny, fast monsters that protect each other and make your opponent have a horrible time.
So essentially what Dogmatika is today, except they also have big boss monster, and synergy with other cards in it Albaz mega-archetype?
Ursartics are a good sup for ice barrier u can special summon them from generals and they make it easier to synch trishula being a level 7-8 tuner monster have 2500atk is nice too
One thing I found hilarious is that the old DS game World Championship 2011 had Brionac in the starter deck. The non-errated version. It never left the extra deck for me.
You know what would bring the archetype back? A show of the duel terminal series. So much potential in card artwork and effects it's heartbreaking
I'll even take a mini series of Hexa's life story. I just want shows or games based off lore. Any lore in ygo
Make a video about the Malefic archetype :)
Ice barriers being bad is kind of a weird meem at this point. My ice barrier deck is honestly one of my best decks that rarely looses. They are have a pretty aggressive syncro engine and easy to mix the best water and syncro cards and archetypes.
They did take a hit with halqifibrax being band but I just took out the crystron package and replaced it and it is still going strong.
New support incoming 😊
One of my favorite decks
I wonder if ice barrier could have a fusion spell that can allow the archetype to make synchro and/or fusion summons with monsters from your hand and/or field.
Is a spell card like that too much?
I remember playing a synchro deck with three copies of Omega, and1 Trishula.
I had an engine so powerful, that I could rip three or two cards out of my opponents hands regularly.
You cant attack with Dewdark directly if you summon him with Revealers effect and she is still on the field... but Ive been playing Ice Barriers in Master Duel (Plat/Synchro Fest) and I have been having a fun time with then... there are actually some decently strong tuner effects with Defender of the Ice Barrier and Revealer having a decent 2 card synergy if your opponent hits Maxx C and ends your turn you at least have decent effect protection from Beat Sticks. Also Raiho has a helpful effect that can destroy your opponents hand advantage by making them discard everytime they activate a monster effect. Dewlorean is still a great combo extender, if you can discard Ice Barrier you can send any lv 5 or higher IB boss monster from the deck, to the GY then to the hand... and this makes the set up for Wayne/Raiho/Gantala/Dai-Sojo really easy. Gantala and Dai-Sojo are also kinda OP other than needing to be tribute summoned, the effects to special summon from the GY during both players End Phases, and making it so your IB monsters are immune to all spell/trap effects are kinda worth it to run 1 of copies in the deck IMO...
I truly wish this archetype gets more support. I thought it was forgotten. I love Water.
Like someone once said, Trishula is like that max security prisoner that requires a full sniper team aiming at her each time she goes make a sandwhich, and each time the warden thinks this might be too excesive and takes the measures off, Trishula immediately tears the current decks apart.
Always been my favorite archetype
Would Revealer be the best answer to floowandereeze? Cuz I'm struggling against that deck.
duellogs have you been sleeping well? you missaid 'water' to 'warrior' numerous time
He also swapped 4th and 5th place in the chapters (he has medallion as 4th and gungnir as 5th in the chapter select)
Hope he's doing well. Should probably take a rest from streaming for a day or two if it's too much
and didn't show #1's erratum.
And mispronounced gungnir multiple times as well.
I got 3rd in a tournament playing Ice barrier synchro in June.
An easy way to make gemini monsters playable is make several level 4 or lower reptile type water monsters with 1500 or less ATK that have hand and graveyard effects so you can abuse snake rain and salvage. I also forgot the ability to special summon 2 level 4 or lower gemini monsters from your deck.
