I'd agree. But, and a very large however. Come into my presence, expect me to except to your wants and needs before my own will create fear which creates anger and a defensive stance. It took 20 years before a misunderstanding was corrected. Or a month of what did I do wrong, before learning a wave ment "come here". And of course everytime I waved back , and of course her anger increased.

I knew kids from the Philippines that came to Canada to live with their parents. They struggled with language in the beginning, and were so introverted. I always took the time to engage them. Just recently, after 50 years, they found me and thanked me for being a friend, and for watching their backs while adjusting to their new lives. I moved away from the old neighbourhood in 1978, 2 years after I left high school, but they remembered me to thank me. I am suitably touched........

(I was born here, but the high school was right down the street from me, so of course I went there.) I was introduced to so many different cultures, while helping my new friends adapt to a new culture. I don't know for sure if anyone was from NK, but maybe. She probably didn't want to sound rude and criticize too much. Like how expensive it is just to live sometimes. People who bully immigrants, especially children, especially for not speaking good english are just awful. Especially when they themselves likely cant speak a foreign language at all either, id love to see them put in a country with no english speakers and see how far they get without help. Im glad she found and had people in her life that were better than that. Ive had new immigrants in my city come into my workplace and not speaking good english if at all. I have no problem being patient to help them get what they need or even pulling out google translate if necessary to help communicate since its faster than the helpline. Ive done it before and its great to see them be thankful when I can finally communicate the information they need or get them the product they want. Id want the same courtesy if I was struggling in a foreign country. Im glad her life changed for the better and shes no longer in an awful place like NK.

I'm an army veteran and I just wanted you to know, you'll always run into jerks and bullies, but you will have way more friends that will stick beside you! You seem to be a very sweet caring person that would probably get any guy with a big heart to be by your side. I'm just so glad you made it out of n. Korea. I hope you have a wonderful New life and be happy the rest of your life!

for me i am the kind of person who takes, being considerate, very seriously. within a few seconds i can think of many different things i would not want to do so that i do not make you uncomfortable. this is just how i always have been. i try to make people feel like they can let all your stress and fear go around me ... just be yourself. it is not about where you are from , it is about where you are at right now

Really made me happy to know my country supported getting her therapy to deal with the transition. That’s not discussed a lot but I think super important and beneficial for those coming from North Korea if they’d like that.

This series is fascinating. I did not even realize there were very many refugees from North Korea - I thought no one could get out. Glad to find out we have been able to welcome some to the U.S.

I would think that people here would have more respect and affection for people coming from North Korea than just about anywhere else on the planet! I am so happy that you are here, and I pray for those who are left in that country. Many beautiful people held under such harsh rule!

We had a girl from, uganda? I believe come to our school (a regular English-speaking public High-School, not a special ESL one) it was 8th grade year (12-14). She spoke a little english but not much. Everyone was super supporttive of her and there was really no bullying that I knew of, and by like 10th grade she was speaking English like a native speaker because first of all she was just a very smart person, and second of all everyone talked to her alot and she learned by listening and conversing with native speakers. I am still amazed at how fast that girl learned english. this was in Maine btw.

Awesome, I grew up in Miami, Florida area in the 50's and 60's. We had a lot of Cubans that excaped and came to our country with nothing. They too had language barriers, and like you they worked hard to over come it. Having traveled around the world and live in Japan(3 years) and in Germany(6 years) I have found that everyone has those language barriers (even if they have learned the local language) You have done well and I'm proud of you.

Your the type of lady that really attract men, your beautiful, have a sweet voice, and very polite.
Please don't worry about the bullies, they are just jerks that like to pick on people who are not like them. Mainly they are just jealous.. just Be yourself ! You'll make hundreds of friends. And be careful of the boys, a young lady like you will have them all asking you out. Just enjoy being here and I wish you the best. Welcome to the USA 😀
