I have so much respect for anyone that decides to leave NK to have a better life in SK or wherever they choose to live.
I can agree with you.
I think a lot more would leave if they could, it's just a lot of money to leave and very risky.
@@lilkitten545 not just money.. but what happens to someone you leave behind.. not to mention what happens to you if you get caught.. or trafficked in china. we need to boycott china till it stops the trafficking and sending back to north korea.
Courageous.
She took a literal leap into the unknown. That takes huge faith and self-belief.
I doubt they'll live a better life being discriminated by Southerners.
I love how the thumbnail for a video about Americans shows an Australian...
That was my first reaction too, lol

Founding fathers are rolling in their graves because America has been more communist than free. The democratic party has caused a lot of destruction and Americans are now waking up slowly... Now that it's too late.
Probably not thinking about women in bikinis at the time XD
Or were they 🤔
Why assume they were Americans? They could be anyone!
gabriel garcia It’s far from too late.
But definitely need to get off the current path.
But yeah, they’ve been let down.
They created a great basis, for a society that values liberties over all else.
But they could’ve never guessed most of the country would become literate, that media companies put fear on 24/7. ( What else do you expect to happen.)
Betting on the evolution of the USA was a great idea & the safest.
But technology leaked so far ahead, those in power rather than trying to adapt with it. Let it be to amass further security of power.
@@GabrielGarcia-300 >>Founding fathers are rolling in their graves because America has been more communist than free.
“Why should I kill them! They gave me candies!” Lol that was honestly the cutest thing.. 😅
She's paid to say things like that.
That is 100% child logic. If someone gives you candy and snacks you won't want to kill them, because then they won't be able to give you more candy and snacks! I didn't know there was ever that much tourism there; that really surprised me.
the candy it’s just bait

As an American, we don't know what Australians are saying most of the time either. They are still family tho, ...our crazy cousins.
Instead of saying what's going on. We just say scarn on.

I was raised by Germans, my best friend is Spanish German and Korean, from Nepal with a strong accent is Rajg, Ty and Lisa are Americans. Some people are jerks. I like to see her confidence with speaking english. So many people are nervous about making mistakes when speaking a second language, and it holds them back from expressing themselves. She is a great example of how it's possible to express yourself very well even if your grammar isn't perfect.
I don't think they needed the subtitles... I could understand her just fine.
Hi from Alaska! Congratulations on your new life. It is comforting to see somebody that is grateful for the freedoms they have. So many young people don't appreciate what they never had to earn. It is because you fought to gain that freedom you grasp its value. Many good wishes to you.
This is such an interesting interview! She has a great personality

I’m just here to count how many people told her that he’s Australian.
Hey Dear Kevin! You don't need to worry about it. I already knew he is an Australian. When I was in the North, I thought everyone that I saw were Americans because that was the only what I learned from the school in the North and also I talked about Australia and America therefore, It make sense to put his picture. Thankyou so Much for sharing your story. I was in the U.S. Army in the 1980's. I spent 15 months stationed in South Korea. I was at Camp Pelham , Sonyuri, it is really close to Munsan. i don't think it was necessary to insult Pigs like that... ;p
when people say they hate living in America, I tell them to think about how lucky they are
I'm happy you got to escape and live your life to its fullest
@@MsMusicfreak666 Truth...
@@MsMusicfreak666 Why would Americans denigrate America so badly that they claim to hate America but their actual belief is that they don't actually hate America? It's perfectly sensible to say "I don't like these particular aspects of America" and "here is my plan to improve these aspects". What's not sensible it to claim America (which is objectively the greatest country on earth) is so terrible that everything (including its foundational philosophies) are worthy of denigration. These Americans say this as if there happens to be a greater country today that is doing better than America.
I wonder what would happen to these people if they knew what the rest of the world is like and how life was like all throughout history?
@@MsMusicfreak666 In my childhood, I've lived in poverty with several complex medical conditions affecting me. If that doesn't count as desperate, difficulty, and frustration, I don't know what does. I can tell you that I've never grown up being angry at my society. I have the blessing of being born to Christian parents and they read to me about life in biblical times. This taught me that *it is universal for all humans to experience difficult, frustrating, and oppressive lives* . Even in our miraculous future age of 2020 with unfathomable magical tools of convenience, the fundamental human condition is still the same.
So what's the difference between these ingrates and myself? The difference is about learning history, and understanding gratitude. They don't have the blessing of learning life outside of their own bubble, they are not taught the utility of gratitude in all things.
@Lyric That is not the case at all, especially the free healthcare. America does _not_ have free healthcare. Medical bills are one of the major causes of bankruptcy, and you can bet that if somebody's homeless, it's often through no fault of their own. :\
@@MsMusicfreak666 My point is that America is the greatest country on earth and that America doesn't have a closed border exit policy (i.e. go migrate to the greatest country if America isn't the greatest). "Asking to do better" is not a bad thing, but declaring open hatred for America, the greatest country on earth, is a purely nonsensical opinion. I'm all for knowing our own faults, I follow the doctrine of "deterministic cause and effect". What I can't stand is open hatred towards the greatest country on earth, America by Americans currently living inside America.
Rather than seeing a good country that has flaws that can be improved, these ingrates see a terrible country that needs total social upheaval into whatever totalitarian nightmare they call utopia.
5:01 This part reminded me of economist Thomas Friedman's Golden Arches theory of Conflict Prevenetion. No two countries that both have McDonalds will go to war with one another.

I'm Chinese and I appreciate this lady's positive energy after living in N. Korea for 20+ years. Though i can not image to live in a suppressed society. The case she described on the math textbook, which was also the case in China during 1950s to 60s, when China and US were both presented in the Korean War, which is super sad fact that Korea was splitted after the war. Since China shift the boat toward economies in later 80s, the period I was born, the mentality was not at all important, all thing goes captalisim. However, N. Korea was still stuck in this mentality after 2000, it is a tragedy of human beings.

Yeah America still has it's problems, especially towards those that are brown.
@Reese Cup You sound so ignorant. I'm brown and I don't receive any government help. I have degrees in science and psychology. I don't have any children and both of my parents are at home, YET, I have been followed in stores, profiled, called the N word multiple times, told to go back to Africa, called lazy while at WORK. I've had multiple people stereotype me just to feel and look stupid when they learn my academic background. Like I said, there are major issues in this country towards brown and black people period. Those who pretend it doesn't happen are a part of the problem. You're a part of the problem.
@Joseph Gutierrez Good for you. Your lack of experiences with racism do not invalidate other's experiences however.

I recommend refreshing on history. About 20 or 30 years before any strict dictatorship and see how they got to that point.
People like you (no offense) never see more than one step ahead. Social media is exactly how this is going to get worse. Its almost a testing ground or conditioning.
People are already losing jobs and other opportunities based on what they’ve said online. And they start with extreme cases like a full blown racist comment. Then its “homophobia”. Then its “well he’s a Trump supporter so I dont care if he got fired for an opinion”. And so on until no one can say a dam thing without fear of having their lives destroyed.
What happens when they start fining people for using “wrong” words like in Canada? What happens if I dont pay the fine? What if I say I dont trust the government when they tell me to take some new medicine? I barely want to type that now in worry of what everyone will think of me. Control speech, control thought. It doesn’t matter how reasonable it starts out.
This is how it starts. And people like you never see how it gets worse. Our grandchildren will look back and think how in the hell did they let this happen. Ask any defector from a country like that. They wonder the same thing.
