I had that. Years ago I had a 50 series reman put in my old 8430. Tillage only. The very day the warranty expired I was disking and it threw a rod. I called the dealer at 4:00. The owner about had a stroke, but they stood behind it. Got another one and it has been in there probably 2500 hours. It has been a good tractor again - like it was when it was new. I hope that engine lasts the rest of my farming career.

I go to a major tractor and farm equipment auction several times a year looking for projects and or deals.Last October or November I was there and looking for a decent 60 HP range loader tractor. There was a line of 8 down right good looking Kubota's in the right HP range with loaders and all 4WD. All were under 5 years old and all were under 2000 hours. Started them one at a time and every single one of them soaked my arm with oil when I pulled the dip stick when they were running to check for bottom end blowby. Ended up with a JD 5203 with loader. People with Kubota's seem to be as brand loyal as Harley owners but as you pointed out in an exceptional way they are a bear to fix and God help you when something major goes wrong. I had a major sell out last fall and sold 90% of my tractors and equipment for what turned out to be top dollar. THEN wife said let's keep the place for a few more years so I'm buying to replace what I sold. I'd kept a 80's era JD 1250 made by Yanmar (fave tractor) bought the JD 5203 with loader (goodun made in India) and just bought a new JD 5075E 75 HP with cab and air (assembled in U.S.A.) and some other equipment. So, I got a barn full of John Deere's but since they were made in Japan,India, and the U.S. they can't talk to one another lol.

After watching this, I finally subscribed!!! I've been saying for many years, if Kubota's are as dependable as some lead us to believe. Then why do you not see them in the fields as much as Deere, CNH or Agco tractors. 9 out of 10 on youtube that boast about Kubota reliability are those who are compact tractor owners with a couple acres. I have a good friend of mine that has owned Kubota's (100hp tractors) for many many years, he buys them brand new BUT will trade them off between 1200 to 1500 hours max on them. At the same time, he owns Deere tractors, these are 7 series MFWD's that he purchases USED with 2500 hours on the low end and keeps for the long run.

When I was a transport mechanic we had issues with sour re-man engines about 40% of the time. Some of the workmanship on those was appalling. Blocks machined improperly, head bolts that weren't torqued, bent rocker shafts, cam bearings misaligned, gaskets and seals damaged on assembly, rods with 0 side clearance, cross threaded bolts, etc. One gas engine, a truck 427 GMC, had only one head torqued down. The other side had the bolts snugged to maybe a "hand tight" 30-ish ft-lbs - but it was obvious that they forgot to torque both heads completely. It burned a groove between two cylinders on the block when the head gasket let go. We were amazed it held water. One local contract production line machine shop that re-built 'factory re-man' engines paid their unskilled workforce barely above minimum wage. Think about that - the idiots putting those engines together are on-par ethically, educationally and motivationally with someone who works at McD's.

Alot of people think their little tractors are comparable because the stupid little 30hp tractors cost like $25,000. What they fail to realize is that these larger tractors cost over $100,000 when they are new. I have a 70hp tractor that weighs about 10,000# with loader and the tires loaded. When I load it on the trailer most people are surprised at how heavy it actually is. I consider my tractor a "small" ranch/farm tractor anything smaller is a garden tractor. This goes for newer equipment, older stuff is always under-rated and alot heavier iron. Thanks for the videos!!!

Hey Warren, after seeing this video it sure reminds me of what has been happening in the Auto industry as well. If seen some real nightmares. From engines that burn oil to the issues with turbochargers. Even the transmission in some of these newer cars is a poor design .The CVT transmissions were junk in my opinion too. Fords design of the Eco-boost engines had a serious flaws too. By switching to a high pressure fuel pump and direct injection they discovered later the intake valves were coking and the cylinders were losing compression because the valves started leaking due to the build up which prevented them from closing. Their fix was to add sequential fuel injection. This kept the valves from coking. On that same engine Ford put the water pump inside the timing case and when the water pump fails and leaks antifreeze pours into the oil pan and seizes the engine. Their fix was to put an idler pulley in the pumps place and mounting the pump outside the crankcase with a gaudy set of tubes that are routed outside of the crankcase. I could go on I’ve heard some real nightmare stories with vehicles designed from the late 1990’s up to today. It all begs the question “ what the hell were these designers doing. What ever happened to proving a design before putting it into production. The prices and designers for these newer vehicles is rediculous. I enjoy your perspective and your ability to work on a wide variety of tractors and vehicles.

It didn't cost money but we lost the time.

Hydro-electric is the cleanest energy going but you have to take in environmental degradation with reservoirs and marine life. Everything is a trade off and no one way is all good or all bad. It’s just who can impose their will on the most people.

You go Warren.. Not that any commercial tractor will last for ever, but its a case of you get what you pay for quality of the pour of metal, quality of machining, quality of the built it all adds up. The problem today is manufacturers are cutting cost across the board to maximize the bottom line. Plus the engineers today that design the stuff, half of them never seen a farm, or never serviced a machine in the field. Trust me when I say this cause i was literally born and raised across the street, from JD's tractor works, I had multiple family members who worked for JD. the problem comrade is we now live in a throw away society buy it oh doesn't it look shiny and all. but when it breaks just toss it. VERY sad.
