  • Hi everyone! There're more and more national finals for Eurovision 2024 releasing their songs every day. Now it's Ukraine turn, songs of their selection Нацвідбір 2024 are out. Ngl, I thought Teresa & Maria was just flat with not much for me to take in.
    Slavic English, Palala, Glasss, and Tsunamia were my favourites out of the 11. If either one of them were sent, then I'd be satisfied. Looks like we have the same favourites haha!
    I personally want to see Ukraine send more songs in Ukrainian because that would add some diversity to what I fear might (or might not) be a generic pop heavy year like 2016 (which is my least favourite editon of the last ten years and ironically has one of my favourite entries in Eurovision so far).

    The song is not about Teresa and Maria, but about women in general. In order to understand the meaning of the song, you need to listen to Alna Alyona's rap, everything is explained there. There are too many demands on a woman, namely: On his shoulders, still small, a girl
    carries a vat filled with pain (meaning a great burden) and sees that it is her cross because she is a woman.
    Again, not like that, because you're too soft (while Alyona points to herself, implying that she's fat, it's about the body. And a skeleton dressed in clothes, (that's what they say about thin people like Jerry) or naked - (means
    not very well dressed, vulgar) or under the crown (we say, dressed as for marriage, which means off topic)
    where is your child (when you are 30, and Alyona is 32, you can often hear that it is time for you to give birth, why don't you think about it, they say?) What is your life like? (you are not married, but this is the meaning of life)
    But the years fly by! Almost the end. ("well-wishers" count your age). That is, there are many metaphors here, but this song is about the fact that even today there are many demands on women and they are often condemned.
    “Let someone want us to break
    Let there be a charge in you
    Not to the elbow, but to the finger
    And let someone hide behind a smile
    Hatred and envy
    When you let anger into your heart
    Instead of goodness and love
    But there are saints in heaven
    Their feet have seen this land, you know
    Your thorny path
    Therefore, it is not in vain
    And let it be very scary and dark
    And sometimes it's not easy
    But they will always be with you

      Wonderrrful comment, thanks for writing it.
      I mean, I know the song is praising women, not just Teresa and Maria. I adore topics like that. You’re right, all the best lyrical content is on alyona ‘s rap. But sadly, this part is just too fast and short (as rap is supposed to be), the whole song is just those repeated lines about Teresa and Maria, one of the worst examples for this topic.

      I, as a Ukrainian, can say that before I heard all the songs, I thought that these girls were not worthy of representing my country. but after listening to all the songs, their statement is one of the strongest, this is a mantra. there is one question in my mind, how good will it look on stage and will it be good at all? Melovin was my main favorite, but the song turned out to be a disappointment, a typical Eurovision song that is in no way different from the others. I really liked the group NAHABA, it’s so unusual, it evokes so many emotions! I'm very surprised that in many videos like yours, this group takes last places. I hope that NAHABA or Jerry Hail and Alyona Alyona will win.

    • @censord6960

      They are popular and that's all. Of course, they are both professionals and they do what they do coolly, but in general I don't see them as favorites, although a large fanbase can make them so. Yaktak also often takes high places because of this even though he made a very weak song. Jeri Hale had a strong song last year, not so much this year. You're unlikely to hear anything intelligent, just "I'm a Jerry Hale fan"

    • @sleppehdaze7739
      @sleppehdaze7739 Před 4 měsíci +2

      The song just has a really fluid vibe, that is very motivating, and the choir sounds really good. It also just has kind of an anthemic quality, at least to my ears, which helps. Jerry was only my third (Behind HoS and Dovbush) last year. I also really like the rap a lot. It’s one of 4 10/10’s season for me. Glasss is also one for me.

    • @EurovisionESC
      @EurovisionESC Před 4 měsíci +3

      I don't know... It's just because of the names, probably. If you go to eurovisionworld and check the odds , this stands at 50% while melovin is at 20 something % so it's clearly about the number of fans more than anything else. I listened the song as they appeared on CZcams and i remember this was the first one so i wrote "it's cute but disappointing". I still think this way. I love Jerry's voice, that's clear. The melody of the song is nice but other than that, it's just bad. Also, you put Virgin Mary and the message of woman empowerment in the same phrase??? Like, really??? Not to mention how cringe is to have a reference to "maria" in the first place.
      So, no.
      For me, it's GLASSSSSSS and the beautiful ingrid . I like tsunamia too, reminds me a bit of vesma and a little bit of alina pash's song (kinda).
      All in all, a good selection. A shame that most of the eliminated song are better than what it's in the final

    • @escserg6731
      @escserg6731  Před 4 měsíci

      Yeah, I got it that Ukrainians think like that at least since the last year, when they chose Tvorchi instead of fan favorite traditional songs. And I agree. But this selection has many songs with folk elements again, so it was very likely that one of them would end in my first place.
      So, what are you favorite songs without traditional elements here? Is Teresa & Maria in this category?

      Jerry and Alyona are my second place. Their song has some ethnic elements but they’re not dominant. I just like the energy and “moodiness”, the melody is nice and chorus is catchy

I understand that ethnic motifs from Ukraine may be very popular in Europe, but many Ukrainians find it less interesting every year, because artists add ethnic motifs where they are not needed and the real uniqueness and interesting melody is lost.
