    But one thing that must be acknowledged about JFK is how he represented the country as a nation to be respected, not only by strength but by his speeches, he gave meaning to things people were still considering to be (ancient) ideas and showed us how important it actually was and he represented the country so well he had A LOT of support.

      JFK was arguably one of the F tier if only for his support of public sector unions. This is a level of corruption that even the fascist FDR couldn’t stomach. Think about how corrupt public sector unions are, they literally force members to pay dues then give those dues to the democrats in the form of campaign contributions so that when they negotiate for higher pay and better benefits they have already legally bribed the party they are negotiating with… the only loser in the whole corrupt system is the taxpayers who get stuck paying

      I say the same thing about Teddy Roosevelt. He earned the respect of the other nations of the world, which were empires at the time, through his big-stick foreign policy and the expansion of American borders. I think Ben brings up a few decent points regarding progressivism and the growth of the admin state but Teddy Roosevelt, I don’t think, was as bad as Ben portrays him (partly thanks to his creation of the National Park Service, as a side).

    • @adamcuneo7189
      @adamcuneo7189 Před 8 měsíci

      @@CaptCovfefe515 I heard Teddy Roosevelt did get rid of corruption between politicians and the labor unions as well, so I agree, I don't think he was all that bad. I think the two Presidents that really screwed us over were LBJ and Nixon, Johnson passed the Welfare Act of 1964, which made a lot of Americans dependent upon the government for money, and Nixon opened up trade with China, even though I get what he was trying to get them to cut ties with the Soviet Union, but they are still Communist today and it has made us reliant upon a Communist regime for products. Nixon even disgustingly supported the idea that Taiwan was a part of China, which it's not, it's especially weird how he trusted China when we were literally fighting Chinese troops in Korea 20 years earlier.

Revelation 1:8 says that Jesus is the alpha and the omega. Luke and revelation is the ending times, and Jesus is returning back. So are you going to submit your life to him or no? Narrow is the path that leads to the gates of heaven, but only few people find it. The gates that is the path to destruction is where many people find it! Jesus loves you SO MUCH! Theodore Roosevelt's trust busting was probably one of his better policies. Because at that time, capitalist companies were so large that they could basically do whatever they wanted. It was hard to put sanctions on companies that others would have to follow, because these monopolies basically took control of an entire industry of business. Nowadays companies can someone get around this issue by having subsidiaries, however they still have to go through legal loopholes and they still have to follow more standards and they had to back then. If not for Teddy Roosevelt, we would have less competition some of these industries like steel, and gas, and very large companies that we had back in those days.

    • @contestofnerds
      @contestofnerds Před 7 měsíci +3

      That is not what happened... do you know what a "trust" is? Railway companies were essentially being combined, that's it. The trustbusting was mostly a precautionary measure.

    • @russiandragon45
      @russiandragon45 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@contestofnerds companies combining isn't what "Trust Busting" or just antitrust law is, it's the exact opposite. Antitrust law is a collection of federal rules and regulations specifically for the prevention of monopolies and the promotion of competitive business. Certain trusts combined in a way that made it so they had control over their entire portion of the market, and can set prices to whatever they so pleased. Antitrust laws made that more difficult to occur, causing most of those companies to have to split apart. It's the reason, for example, why there are a bunch of different gas station companies instead of just one. I know what trust is. In the context here: it's to prevent one trustee, or nominal owner of a company, to hold a corner or multiple corners of a particular industry for their own beneficiaries, rather than contributing to market growth and healthy competition.
      Imagine if you will, that you couldn't decide what phone you wanted, because the only cell phone on the market was an iPhone. The latest one only, because since Apple has control over that industry, they set the standard and price for every phone they make. So previous versions become completely obsolete and every phone company that does spring up, just gets bullied and bought out by Apple. Antitrust is a great preventative for that sort of thing.

    • @contestofnerds
      @contestofnerds Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@russiandragon45 You are conflating what I said about the early 19th century trusts to some commentary on antitrust and monopolies as a whole.
      Particularly, I am referring to the Northern Securities Co. v. United States case which really kicked off the whole trustbusting era. The owners of the railroads that formed the trust were trying to stop competition with each other, this was/is an industry where there were little to no minor players as it is difficult to break into.
      And that leads me to my next point, there are industries that naturally and inevitably trend toward monopoly. (Including the railroads, which are essentially the monopoloy the Supreme Court previously broke up.) There cannot be competeting sewers, railroads, and electrical lines (e.g.) occupying the same space, and other industries where the "buy in" is so large that new players entering is virtually impossible. These are all termed the "natural monopoly."
      As an aside, unless the product the company is selling is completely inelastic (not likely), the business will not raise the price to the point where no one can or will buy it for obvious reasons. Especially in the case of the railroads, which got circumvented by the inventions of the car and plane.
      Also, every extremely large business, business operating alone in an industry, or even a true monopoly is not bad in virtue of its size or soloness. What makes a monopoly bad is when they are demonstrably anti-competetion and acting as such (which the early trusts were not yet).
      In any case, there are in fact legitimate arguements that good monopolies are certainly not a pure negative in an economy as they master efficiency and reliability.

    • @russiandragon45
      @russiandragon45 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@contestofnerds Yes, I understand all that, as Teddy did. Even he stated there are good and bad monopolies, and the trust busting he did focused on monopolies that weren't good. All I was saying was that trust busting, anti trust law, is/was a pretty good policy all things considered. Theodore Roosevelt was the pioneer for it so I don't consider that a draw back to his presidency.
      What having a monopoly like the railroads does however, minimizing competition between them, would have made rail road shipping costs go up, since then they could set the price for it. It's a hard industry to break into sure, but that was the point of going after them. Normal people use train for travel, and companies use trains to ship goods, so price hikes wouldn't have been good. And if everything is under one trust, than corruption can easily form between them and any other industries.

      True, but that doesn't necessarily mean he was a good president. That said, I would put him in the top 10. Some might say "but he was a progressive," but that doesn't really mean much because the progressives of his era were very different from the progressives of today. Teddy himself was very much an interventionist in foreign policy, and if he was here today modern progressives would sneer at him for using "cowboy diplomacy," just like they did to Reagan and Bush 2. Similarly, Teddy believed that immigrants should be required to learn English and assimilate, and he also was against the hyphenation of the word American. None of those things would sit well with 21st century progressives either.

      @@hotwax9376 I would say that Teddy Roosevelt was a bad president. Definitely not in the top 10. He was an interventionist, like you mentioned. But not only was he an interventionist abroad but he was also one domestically. He had no care for private institutions or state matters and he did things without caring about if they were legal or not. He shut down a coal company is SW Missouri and SE Kansas simply because he deemed their coal not to be environmentally safe. Kind of like Biden with the Keystone pipeline. He created the FDA, FBI, and parks system illegally and did so despite Congress itself forbidding him from doing so. He created the FDA because of Upton Sinclair's book, of which his own government investigators said was a lie. When he created the parks system he confiscated private land and state land to do so. I love the Grand Canyon as much as anyone but confiscating private land and state land is wrong. And his views on people speaking English were also espoused by Woodrow Wilson. And while I agree that immigrants should assimilate, I do also disagree with sending in government agents into private institutions to close them if they did not speak English well enough like Wilson and Teddy did. Teddy Roosevelt did not do that near as much as Wilson because he was worried about the backlash he would get just marching federal agents into a grocery store or school that was run by immigrants fresh off the boat. Wilson took advantage of WW1 making the headlines to literally send federal agents into private institutions to force them to close if they did not speak English well enough. He first did it to schools in Omaha because Omaha had a large German population and if people started to protest then he could fall back on them being Germans. I think that if I went back in time and met Teddy that I would like him on a personal level. But as a president he was pretty bad.
