  • We spent one month in Italy's Food Capital. Northern Italian cuisine brings to the world some of the most popular foods when it comes to Italian food. Tortellini, Tortelloni, Mortadella, Tagliatelle al Ragu, Salame Rosa, Balsamic Vinegar, Parmigiano Reggiano, and so much more are from this abundant region of Emilia Romagna and they all culminate in this wonderful city that celebrates culture, education, and food. After eating and exploring Bologna for a month, these were some of our favorite places to eat!
    Chapters:
    0:00 Intro
    0:52 CAFFÈ TERZI - g.co/kgs/Sv77da
Italian coffee and espresso is next level but this is my favorite coffee shop in the historic center.
    2:45 PASTICCERIA NERI - g.co/kgs/UDBnky
Classic pastry shop and cafe style you'll find throughout Bologna.
    4:36 LA PICCOLA BAITA - g.co/kgs/fSz5N1
The perfect intersection of music, snacking plates, and exceptional regional wines. The team here is doing amazing work in building partnerships with regional wine producers to share their stories. The Pignoletto wine is a must have here.
    5:32 PORTICO DI SAN LUCA
5:45 SANCTUARY OF THE MADONNA DI SAN LUCA - g.co/kgs/gS7itR
Start your journey here via the longest, uniterrupted portico (covered walkway) in the world. Stretching 4km long ending at the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca. It's absolutely worth your time and you'll be rewarded at the end with 180° views of the city of Bologna and rolling hills of the countryside.
    6:16 PASTA FRESCA NALDI - g.co/kgs/CxfwRz
Stopped in here to try Bolognese lasagna and baked tortellini. The energy of this kitchen and street full of locals is not to be missed. Check open hours before heading over.
    13:47 LA PROSCIUTTERIA - g.co/kgs/7wo7ue
The perfect place to have a sandwich in Tuscan Schiacciata Bread. My favorite is their monthly rotating sandwich menu. They make massive meat and cheese boards too.
    16:24 MERCATO MEZZO - g.co/kgs/ZgdAx4
Produce and meat market lining the medieval streets of the Quadrilatero. The indoor portion has several food stalls serving Bolognese staples.
    17:57 SALUMERIA SIMONI - g.co/kgs/pkQ61a
I really enjoyed this family owned Salumeria for the ability to taste traditional varieties of meats and cheeses and for how thinly they slice the meat.
    27:00 MERCATO BOLOGNINA (MERCATO ALBANI) - g.co/kgs/cJhSPq
In the heart of the Bolognina neighborhood is a wonderful market supplying residents with the freshest meats, produce, and provisions. This place transitions into a locals hangout at night with small restaurant stalls. It's truly a beautiful way to experience Bologna like a local. Closed on Sundays.
    29:00 BOLLORE (BOX 26) - g.co/kgs/y4thwj
Located within the Mercato Bolognina, this craft cocktail and aperitivo stall makes the best Gin & Tonic I've ever had. The Luxardo Gin & Tonic.
    30:58 RAGŪ - g.co/kgs/ij8efR
This place was worth the hype. Excellent Tagliatelle Ragu and Tortelloni.
    34:47 PIAZZA MAGGIORE - g.co/kgs/oHhuAS
The central square of the historic center where you'll find the Basilica di San Petronio. Climb the Torre dell'Orologio (clock tower) for a birds eye view of the city.
    34:59 BIRRERIA POPOLARE - g.co/kgs/qRdPFd
Several international beers, including Brooklyn Brewery. I enjoyed their house brews and the low-lit ambiance. The bartenders offer great service.
    36:08 ITALIAN BREAKPAST - g.co/kgs/NhQeDX
An example of the casual bistros serving Bologna's most beloved pasta dishes. I loved the Tortellini en Brodo here.
    42:35 L'ANTICA PIZZERIA DA MICHELE - g.co/kgs/dRRCuk
Yes this is a chain, but don't let it deter you from enjoying this Napolitan pizza. They're not bending tradition and they most certainly don't make substitions to any of their pizzas. And they serve a fried pizza the size of a large cat.
    48:28 CREMERIA CAVOUR - g.co/kgs/JyMJSv
You gotta try the gelato in foccacia. And cannot go wrong with any of the flavors! I had Chestnut, Lemon, and Strawberry.

Your energy and smiles are great, and it is wonderful that you include GMap pins for the locations you feature--that is a BIG PLUS! You feature a lot of the places I would point to, but I think a lot of viewers would gulp at the prices.

I am happy to finally see foreign traveler, who really take their time to appreciate everything about our culture, and not who travel only to get a stamp on their passport, and provide almost no information about the places they are visiting.
Just one thing from my part, if I can, never ever eat food to go. Food is something sacred for us, almost like a ritual. We never eat while walking, the only exception is ice cream.
When shops offer "to go", like the one where you bought the Lasagna and Mini tortellini, are not really to go. It is for "export". This is why they are sealed. You buy them and take home, to the office, wherever is a table and sit down, or stand up like in small places where they sell the Tagliata.
Just a small tipp and information about our culture :)

    • @whatomorrowbrings
      @whatomorrowbrings  Před 3 měsíci

Oh me too, but turns out they usually ate with forks and knifes, especially neapolitan pizza when its still very hot. It's on another level of thin where it falls apart when you lift it like a conventional slice. That said, especially in Rome, pizza al taglio (by the slice) is enjoyed by hand from what I observed.
