Yeah JP, you are definitely correct imo about having the endgame base straddle different biomes. The main reason for me is crops and so the 2 mandatory biomes would be mistlands and plains which have crops that only grow in them. All the other crops can grow there as well. Second reason is I also love getting different biomes to attack each other...it's great entertainment. ;) I also agree you need a deep biome of mistlands if possible. That really helps. I also recommend the Ashlands to be nearby as well since that update will be coming out soon as well. So it won't take much of an expedition to set forth there when it drops. I also prefer a nice flat area of the plains that merges with the mistlands... I have a small mistlands farm that borders the plains and mountains... too hilly for a base but fun when the biomes attack each other :) I play with portals though... There is just no way I can progress in a timely manner as my playtime is very short. >
I totally understand man, playing with no portals does make everything take longer; totally true. I can only do it because I have so much free time !

Ive died so many times chasing a bunny and then... finding something else !
I try to find an Elder spawn not too close to coast so I can dig under and build my main base safe from raids. I build only two portals; one is called "MAIN" and it is unconnected, it acts as a lifeline back home, just sail with mats for a portal. Once you find the place for a farm-base:
1- build a portal and name it MAIN so you go back home. and use it.
2- name the second portal in your base as you want, other than MAIN. Example: CROPS.
3- use the MAIN poertal again.
4-Rename the newest portal as "CROPS".
Keeping in mind how raids work you can avoid them to happen out of your main base.
Build the raideable buildables two by two. Keep every couple at least 40 meters away from each other.
Keep Calm and easy farm.
I never thought of that before and it sounds pretty awesome that way. Talk about convenient access to wood!
