Regieleki being so fast that it actually outspeeds trick room is some wally west level shit

Its stupid but you can baton pass +3 to a scarf eleki under tailwind and hit 2k speed so beat up whims with tail wind into a rattled mon with baton pass isn't impossible...
realistically, Ninjask is the one most likely to reach that, since it has 160 base speed and buffs it every turn.
Math checks out, a max investment Jolly Ninjask has 460 speed, so at +6 it reaches 1840.
Yeah, if we´re talking a common sub protect ninjask (maybe an Anything Goes baton pass team) vs a Trick Room team, ninjask could easily use protect and substitute to stall trick room turns, only to end up outspeeding even in trick room as Speed Boost reaches +6@@hiimemily
if we're talking realistically ninjask is literally never going to be used in VGC nor will it last long enough to even get to +6. and there ain't nobody using baton pass ninjask in natdex ubers lmao.

You need Jolly doubtable any ninjask is going to run Jolly when they can protect turn 1 instead So you'd need a faster mon to be passed to, so deoxys speed potentially could do it hits 459 without Jolly, but then if you're baton passing buffs why pass it to a deoxys speed?
I think honest a DOU rapid spin mon on an tailwind team are the most likely canidates to do this. In singles and vgc it likely will never happen.

That's one thing that is great about Showdown. Their intention is not to make pokemon battling better, but to make pokemon battling *easier.* It's the same pokemon battling from the games, just made really, really comfortable
@@jimbb Most known glitches at least. IIRC there have been glitches that they accidentally patched out because the weren't discovered for ages. e.g. gen 1 same type secondary effect immunity. @@jimbbdoes a pretty poor job considering acid rain is not present.
Bonus info: 1809 is the optimal speed for trick room, anything faster will go after it. You can keep using mod 8192 to work out anything above 8192, it will keep the same properties. The highest possible speed possible in-game with no modding/hacking is 13152 (i posted a video on this account doing it). 13152 mod 8192 is 4960 which is the effective speed stat of that pokemon and because it is above 1808 it still outspeeds trick room.
This is the most anime deus ex machina tom-foolery I’ve seen in a Pokémon game
Funnily enough outspeeding trick room can be semi-reliably triggered. However this only really applies in level 100 doubles formats. All you need is pelipper and a swift swim user that has agility (or anything that gives a +2 speed boost) and base speed above 54. In 1 turn, you can use a +2 speed boosting move on the swift swim user and tailwind on pelipper to guarantee a trick room outspeed.
(Only caveat is the the swift swim user must be max speed invested)
i think this is a great thing and is my head canon that is not a glitch, literally if you are too fast you can outspeed trickroom itself
I think this is why Gamefreak never fixed. It became this cool Easter Egg.
It makes me imagine a scene of regieleki getting caught in trick room, freezing for a second, and then vibrating intensely as the trick room shatters and it continues to zip around

the worst bit is that this is literally so easy to fix
just make their new speed 8192 - their old speed instead
Would a negative speed break the game?
@@GeorgeDCowley speed can underflow in the same way that it overflows
@@d0rkl0rd92 OK, that matters.
Makes you wonder why they blatantly put 10000 in there instead of thinking about that for a second
They could also just- set the turn order calculation to reverse when trick room is up. It can't be that hard to implement.
Regieleki with Agility is like my uncle in the car with alcohol
lol those were.... times, weren't they
I like the idea of that the speed barrier is actually the minimun speed you need to bend space and time around you, so if you are fast enough you straight up ignore any space and time shenanigans like trick room.
so instead of taking the calculated turn order and going in reverse; something that's trivial to program, the devs decided to abuse an integer overflow to make trick room work? what kind of 4AM sleep-deprived over-engineered solution is that? what, so you wouldn't have to manually account for priority moves or something?
Pretty much yeah
I'd imagine it's to factor in moves that would change a speed stat/turn order mid-turn, like tailwind?
now gamefreak has a reason to justify their lazy game updates and lack of pokemon animations, they all use their resources programming trick room
They could also just do 8191-speed instead of 10000-speed. Same concept, except much harder to glitch.
Worse. They set up a quick fix to make Trick Room work, accidentally caused an overflow, realized it did not really cause issues, and never bothered to fix it. Even while keeping their current solution, the easy fix would be to substract the speed by 8192 instead of 10000. They are just that lazy, and the fact this bug stayed untouched for now 5 gens is baffling.
This is interesting because I believe when Freezai had just started out on CZcams he had taught me about the Speed Barrier break in the first place. Nice to see an effective remake
Babe wakeup freezai just uploaded
Surprising how this is still in the game if it has been found out long ago. Just rewrite the code of Trick Room so it subtracts the original speed from 8192 and you can dismiss that whole buisness with subtracting 8192 if the number is greater. That fix literally takes 5 minutes at best.
And its not like any Pokemon could reach 8192 speed anyways. Max speed Regileki with +6 boost and scarf with tailwind up still has less than 8192 speed, so even in that case the fix would check out.
It probably hasn't been fixed because there is no need. Like it was said in the video, the circumstances it comes up are so hyper specific there is only one known instance of it happening on accident.
Regieleki at level 100 with max speed ivs and evs, speed boosting nature, +6 speed, choice scarf, tailwind and with it's ability swapped to swift swim under the rain has an speed equal to 13152
Did more research and Floatzel reaches 8664 and Barraskewda reaches 9792
They don't even need to switch abilities to break the game even with your idea
@@kubomagico8853nice find!
The thing is that Trick Room is normally not seen on playthroughs of the game, so it's pretty much a competitive move only. And even on competitive, it's mainly on VGC battles ruleset instead of Smogon's ruleset, which, thanks to the level 50 of all pokemon in VGC, makes it impossible to happen in regular VGC battle and even specific gimmick teams to try this also wont work because it takes too many turns to set up.
Slowbro: "Regileki is a wimp!"
Regileki: "Yes, but I'm fast!"
I love finding byte overflows, math glitches, and edge cases like this. My favorite though will always be MissingNo, which gave me free items and was just frick'n bizarre to fight.
Mine evolved into a Kangaskhan that knew Sky Attack. Pokemon Stadium did NOT like this when I imported it.
This reminds me of Ash vs. Valerie in the XY anime. His talonflame was under trickroom against one of valerie’s pokemon and his strategy was to stall it out by using flame charge to go faster… under trick room.
Ash was cooking something back then and no one realized it…
He break it using Hawlucha later on lol
@@anghainguyen9951 yup, by using momentum from gyro ball to launch hawlucha onto one of the trick room walls and perform x-scissor to smash it
the interesting thing is that speed is not stored in a regular integer size
is that an unsigned 15 bit integer?
if it was signed with 16 bits it would still overflow around 8k, but it would overflow to a negative number.
log2(8192) is 13, so i guess it's 13 bits. A lot of data in pokemon games seem to be in these strange custom formats. Maybe that was necessary to fit these large worlds on the original handheld console games, but it's kinda weird that they're still doing it.
The data in Gen 4 was likely a 16-bit number with the remaining 3 bits encoding priority in some way for the engine to determine turn order.
@@shanesnover4048 Priority sets the highest bits as if they were flags, and then no more work is needed because everything's already ordered correctly. That makes sense, save that priority ranges from -7 to +5, which is 13 values, which is 5 more than can be stored in 3 bits. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if you're close to the mark.
(edit - accidentally posted this reply before I finished writing it)
I’d hazard a guess at there being a checksum and/or parity check?
Someone needs to bring this to a regional or something and pull it off on stream to get the attention of the devs along with somd chuckles.
Really difficult to do in any official event because VGC is played at level 50 instead of level 100, I'm sure that there's still some extremely weird theoretical set of circumstances that could get a level 50 pokemon past the speed barrier but it's a whole buttload harder than just clicking agility on eleki a few times.
The trouble of being faster than light is that you live in darkness.
Love myself some modular arithmetic nonsense. Great vid
Slowbro uses trick room.
Regieleki: Trix are for kids.
back when gen 9 doubles released ursaluna, it was common to lead Cresselia + Ursaluna on the lower end of the ladder. my response to this was to use agility basculegion and tailwind pelipper to set up the trick room glitch on TURN 1. and it managed to catch a lot of people off guard
Regieleki is simply built different.
We're going back to Gen.1 stat overflow glitches oh my god.
"Wouldnt it be easier to just check who has the higher speed and who has the slowest and force them into a fixed, unchangable new value of 5 000 and the other set to 1?"
"nah lets just use the overflow to our advantage for mechanic purposes cuz that sounds hella funni"
you have done a video about that haven't you?
i remembered this glitch one of this days and thied to find your video but just couldn't to find the explanation for that
now we just gotta wait for the terminal montage video on this glitch like the Mario v Fox video except it's mario v Regieleki
And with this implementation, when multiple pokemon outspeed trick room, the one who goes first is the one who's speed is the closest to 8192, so after you pass the speed barrier you go right back around to using the trick room principle of "more speed = slower" again.
Outspeeding trick room is like achieving a secret priority bracket of 0.5. Which also turns out to unlock the 1.5, 2.5 so on and so forth.
"Exactly 1809 or above" is so funny
I’ve always wondered why they didn’t implement trick room by getting the fastest speed currently on the field, and determining new speed by subtracting fastest speed minus current speed. Simply recalculate every time a pokemon with higher speed switches in, or when a boosting move is used
Or just subtract everyone's speed from 8192 instead of 10000
@@MattressGuy Well at that point the Pokémon's normal speed overflows and becomes really low, and Trick Room would only stay consistent with that
If your playing Double Ubers, lead with magearna and a tailwind setter. Shift gear magearna turn 1 and tailwind as well. Turn 2 baton pass into choice scarf calyrex shadow and boom you got the glitch
Wow, I never knew that's how Trick Room work. That's a very interesting way to calculate it and considering the ludicrous amount of setup all but like 3 Pokemon need to do to break through, I wouldn't call it bad (not saying that you did, just to be clear).
wow this came out 29 seconds ago. Love your content man!

Woah I actually didn't know about this. That's so cool

Thanks man, I do love your content :)
+6 Regieleki with Choice Scarf, Swift Swim/Sand Rush and Tailwind can also croos the Stat barrier :o
You could say it's speed was OVER 8000!
I think the easiest fix would be to implement something like an "Initiative Order" like in DND. The Pokemon are placed in order based on their speed stat, which could be changed upon a stat change getting triggered, then when Trick Room gets used the order is just reversed until the Trick Room ends
Itd be cool if this was made canon to the lore, and honestly,it would be pretty epic if the creation trio were also able to negate trickeoom, because like
What does change in the dimensions of a small field matter to the ones that rule over all dimensions
Cool remake!
Slowbro used trick room!
Regieleki doesn't care!
*Obliterates slowbro*
This is so interesting, trick room makes regieleki (after the speed buffs) so slow that it gets ignored, leading to it being extremely fast it’s astonishing
Good bit of knowledge to have if you have a sweeper like regileki vs a trickroom team
It’s nieche, but good to know it’s an option still
and here I thought trick room was literally reading the move order in reverse. this is certainly an interesting overflow glitch
This is actually a really interesting glitch because it has been left in intentionally by Game Freak. The fix would be as simple as lowering the trick room starting speed from 10000 to 8000. So Game Freak has to have thought this was cool enough to not fix.
What I've learned: Math is scarier than ever
Wasn't this an old Freezai video from years ago? I swore the first video I found from him was about this exact phenomenon. Cool either way and the presentation has improve to the point where a remake is justified. I just thought he'd mention it if he did it before
This is like Archie Sonic being able to move in stopped time
this video was so entertaining!
I learned something new about trick room! How interesting.
2:50 The only Pokémon capable of such a feat
MADE IN HEAVEN
I like to imagine that Regieleki quickly runs out of Trick Room's range as the other Pokemon is setting it
I think the funniest thing about this glitch to me is that it would in all likelihood take literally 2 seconds to fix. Just change it from 10,000-x to 8,192-x
i was going to write a comment suggesting that you could use this with regieleki as a trick room counter in vgc. it has electro ball so using agility isn't a waste of a slot, you outspeed opposing tailwind if they have it and get a 150bp 100% accurate electric move without drawbacks if they don't. tailwind and agility multiply together so in doubles as a backup against trick room you could use tornadus + regieleki to hit the barrier in one turn. now the problem is vgc is level 50, so you'd have to use agility 3 times instead of once, but i could see this maybe being used in smogon doubles. for the regieleki set i'd use 252+ Spa, 68 speed to hit just over a quarter of the speed barrier, and dump the rest in phys def to shield from priority. then use protect, agility, electro ball, tera blast ice and a life orb.
"That magnet wasnt put there to make me think you could move... but to make me think you couldnt"
Regieleki: "Sigh. Guess we're doing this. MADE IN HEAVEN."
GOTTA GO FAST
Slowbro twisted the dimensions
Regieleki's speed twisted them back.
In summary; regieleki harnesses the speedforce and breaks time/turn order
The only thing that can hold Regieleki is his movepool variety
I remember doing this with a friend before Regieleki existed, so we used Deoxys-Speed
Hm, so the fix they would have to implement is literally to replace the number 10000 in the trick room code with 8192, in order to prevent the overflow.
The technical debt this series has is absolutely staggering.
Tbh, this should be a feature because it’s so impractical but fun
Ah yes
The particle accelerator
Glad to see the hilariously broken code practices of gen 1 aren't totally removed.
The implementation itself isn't actually unsound or weird.
Basically, they turn the speed into a modulus i.e. remainder. This is important because moduli act more like categories than numbers. All they did was multiply the modulus by -1. Doing this will absolutely reverse the turn order for up to any size divisor. You have to specify the divisor, but that's what the overflow is anyway, so no problem.
I'd be curious to see why they went with a magic number instead of 8191. Since 8192 is = 0 in modular arithmetic, this _should_ fix the bug. Maybe it's just a hold over from lower memory size and 1-man was several larger than what they had.
i swear you already made a video on this topic before? maybe i’m tripping but i remember you making a video on the interaction between agility regieleki and trick room.
I remember this, too
I think they referenced this glitch in the anime once, during XY. Hawlucha gained so much speed that it broke the Trick Room.
Iirc it was during the Fairy Gym battle, though it's been a while so I might be wrong.
Yeah he used the momentum from a spritzee using gyro ball and launched himself while using x-scissor
Honestly this is dope. Fantastic video and explanation.
I think this 'glitch' should remain. I like this anime esque feeling you get when you outspeed trick room
The ultimate “did I stutter” moment.
"IT WAS ME BARRY"
My man is the Reverse Flash, you get faster, but he can break it.
Regieleki out speeding in trick room is hilarious
13 feels like a wacky bit number to store speed as
That's actually really cool
Well, with Regieleki it's actually not too hard to break that 8191 spd cap and overflow back down to the lower digits. Since it already reaches 2192 spd with just +6 spd and nothing else, then all you need to do is pass it a weather speed doubling ability with the appropriate weather of course and set tailwind, which should result in a speed stat of 8764. Unless speed bonuses from those two are additive and not multiplicative... I don't know how different types of speed bonuses interact with each other when they're stacked.
So canonically, we can powerscale pokemon speed on whether or not they out speed trick room
Regieleki: "You are in this trick room, but we do not grant you the ability to move first"
Slowbro: "How can you do this? This is outrageous! It's unfair! How can you be in the trick room and not move first?
Regieleki's too fast that he created his own priority bracket 😂
I say Pokemon Co. should embrace this and make it an official mechanic.
They can tweak it a bit so the behavior is deliberately coded in, instead of dependent on in a brittle overflow bug., but the same idea. (this also gives them a knob they adjust for balancing)
The speed level to trigger it is already so impractical in practice that it would have minimal impact in competitive play. But as an official feature, the game can show an epic "too fast for trick room" message for once in decade time it actually does happen competitively.
honestly, this is the type of glitch you can call a feature and just leave in game. Its not like it has severe consequences, infact its pretty neat and cool.
