  • 12-14-1988. Kareem's last at NJ. Anthem sung by Whitney Houston included at beginning and ceremony in separate vid. Whitney kicked that song's ass, man. Woof. That was somethin to behold. That's a hard song to sing, too. Tough lyrics to remember, countless people have F'd it up over the years. Whitney did it best during her reign. RIP Whitney and Bobbi Kristina Brown.. I've got some absolutely turrible renditions of it in all my game collection. And I know the worst I've ever heard which was on 3/19/89 vs ATL. I'll put that one out w/ said song later on.

      True, for the youngstas, that anthem was a yuge media sensation at the time. It was up there w/ Roseanne Barr's atrociously hilarious attempt at singing it at a Padres game around that time. She grabbed her crotch and spat. President GHW Bush publicly decried it. She got pissed when the crowd started booing her. I watch that and crack up at her shrieking the words, that's some funny shit, I can't lie. She had the bollz to actually "go there", which deserves some sort of perverse appreciation.

    RIP Orlando Woolridge - I was a big fan of his. He had ups and downs in his career. I was happy he didn't end up like Roy Tarpley and that he got through his drug suspension. I was even more excited LA was able to sign him in the summer of 88. I envisioned him and Magic connecting on a never ending stream of alley-oops. Magic can never have enough finishers on the break!

      keepkulbro, I recently completed or aired (can't recall) a game where they showed Orlando's kid Zachary. I've seen Zachary talk about Pops on YT elsewhere. If and when I find that game, I'll try to link it to him. He probably hasn't seen it in his whole life.

      Big O was fun to watch. Rip. Loved his alley hoops and any of his slam dunks. Sounds like chics losing his voice alot during this telecast. @NPZ how far back do you have of all these Laker games? This is impressive of all these taped games. Is there somehow a way to put the regular season games in chronological order by date of actual play.

    NPZ, these are classic Nets jerseys. I was in awe of them when Vince and Kidd wore them on throwback nights. It's a shame that they ever went away from these. Of course, the sad sack no-mark chises always do fuss with the colours. That's something you'll never see from the Lakers, Knicks or Heat.

      Which do you like better, home or away? Ay, listen to this ooooold school organ at around 10:45 It's playin a themesong to a show that I can't think of for the life of me, but I know it. It's vexing me at the moment.

      It just occurred to me, Davo B, that the Nets wore those unis in the thrilling 2003 Finals between SA and NJ. You must've watched that entire series just to cast your glims on those unis. Am I right?

      @@nonplayerzealot4 NPZ, the clean white home unis are just glorious. The roads are ok but I associate those more with Dr. J. I did indeed watch every game of those 2003 Finals. Kenyon and Kidd had a rough series and they STILL pushed the Spurs to a tough six games. Kerry Kittles sucked too, but that was usually the case. The Nets were up late in Game 6, even. Imagine them doing that against Shaq and Kobe? Ha! Anyway, it was a terrible series to watch, but it was still far more enjoyable than the ‘05 and ‘07 Finals.

    Wow!!! This must’ve been a month before the Nets changed their court to the Parquet, with a then-NCAA 3-pointer used for Seton Hall and NCAA Basketball games.

    22:15 Magic Man made the absolute perfect pass in that situation. He was ahead of the receiver and bounced it behind himself to keep it away from the defender and so Worthy could catch it w/ enough time to orient himself and score. Brilliant.

    Buck Williams traded to Port for oft-injured Sam Bowie and Mookie Blaylock. Can't tell who won that, prolly Porty since big men like that are hard to find.

    I wonder what the scouting report was like for Mike McGee vs Larry Nance Sr in 1981. I know the Lakers had Mitch Kupchak in his prime but the two players had markedly different careers.

    • @nonplayerzealot4
      @nonplayerzealot4  Před 3 lety

      That's been a thorn in my butt for a long time and I wasn't even a fan in 81, I was too young. I suppose they thought they were set at PF after having signed Kupchak, but then of course, he goes down in Dec of 81 w/ that knee and the Lakers are instantly screwed and for YEARS! They were lucky to even pluck Rambis out of nowhere because the Knicks dumped him during training camp. Then they got AC in 85 and HAD TO do it instead of finding a backup for Magic. That never happened until they got Threatt in 91 and of course, Magic retires in Nov 91. Had we taken Larry, we could've gotten Terry in 85. Porter that is. The Blazers were a pick behind us in 85 and desperately wanted Ace as the hometown hero. He and Payton are still probably the best two players Oregon State have had, which say something for their program. Porty was lucky that Porter panned out, but even w/ Rambis and AC, the killer problem is that we were very undersized against HOU's twin towers and Kevin McHale. That's a big reason why we lost to BOS in 84 and HOU in 86. We should've beaten the Cs all 3 times. Mychal Thompson made the McHale problem instantly go away. They were teammate Golden Gophers, which made it even better, as Mychal and Kevin guarded each other every practice. Myc said Kevin was a braggart even then. If we got Larry Nance, Senior, we woulda been set. That's at least the 84 title in our column. We got Junior in the hopes that we wouldn't pull the same mistake twice, but he didn't have refinement to his offensive game. Loved his monstar donks tho, miss those. That one at Brooklyn on Lopez was a devastator.
