    Thank you so much for this video. I've been having this issue with my Jeep and the dealership told me it was going to be $700 to fix it. This just saved me

    Nice video. My 2010 patriot has 125k miles and started acting like it was having trouble shifting or hesitating whilst accelerating. Saw a red light flicker above gas gauge but couldn’t see what it was exactly.
    Pulled out the owners manual and tried to see what light flickered. It was that red )lightning bolt( which is the Electronic Throttle Control. Decided to just buy one and hope it was that causing the issue and not the transmission.
    Everything worked out good just had some trouble getting that damn plastic Christmas tree clip off the hose. I did buy mine off Amazon for like 80 bucks and came with a gasket and it started right up and drove it about 5-10 miles on the highway to see if it would do it again and it did not so I think this fixed it. Thanks!

    Is there not an idle relearn or pcm reset procedure when changing the TB?

    I ended up buying the exact same replacement throttle body from advance auto, once it was installed it went directly into limp mode, with a lighting light. I ended up returning the throttle body and got a new one that did the exact same thing. In the end, I just ended up cleaning the old throttle body and it worked. P2173 was cleared.

      @Tamara Hine Yes I did. At end I'm just using the old throttle body, I had to reset the throttle position and it stopped going into limp mode.

    Got a 2016 Jeep Patriot Sport 2 weeks ago with 113,000 miles, I know that was stupid af now but it’s too late. Already changed the spark plugs the day I got it when I got it home because I could tell something was off (it was jerking with acceleration after 45mph). Today the engine light came on, took it to Auto Zone and got a p2173 code back, too much air intake somewhere. It does idle strange.... sounds like it’s pulling in air and puffing out hard if that makes sense lol.. taking t to the auto shop Monday but if anyone has any ideas to what y’all think it could be.. PLEASE let me know. Need to know about how much I’ll be paying.

      On this Jeep no but that doesn't mean you won't have to. I actually had this jeep back in for lower ball joints and the owner told me it's been running great since I changed the throttle body. I believe it's been a year since it was changed.

    So i just did this job on my sisters car. her car is a 2014 jeep patriot 2.0l. You can buy the throttle body on amazon for about $60. It takes less than 30 minutes for remove and install. People or dealerships will charge $400 or so which to me is way to much. Save your money by watching this video and doing it yourself.👍🏼‼

      Did you have to reset the pcm or do an idle relearn or was it all bolt off bolt om and everything worked once plugged back in?

  • @ReefBoundSol-m3q

    Used the parts recommended in the video and the engine light hasn't cleared. Car works fine again though. Took it to the dealer to see if they could clear it and they gave me some BS explanation that the throttle bottle isn't compatible and can't be reprogrammed with the car. Any other reason why this wouldn't clear the check engine light even though it's working good?

    • @tehhsour4593
      @tehhsour4593 Před 2 lety

      You can try buy a little scanner clear the codes and see if it’ll come back or you can just go to the dealership and order the OEM part and get it reprogrammed

    I am getting error code P2173 on my Compass 2.4L and engine light is on. It is not sluggishness but he Lightning bolt display error will show up sometimes. When it does the engine is sluggishness at that time. Will cleaning the throttle body and mass air sensor fix this possibly?

  • @marcusflagg2178

    How do you program the throttle body? I was told I had to make sure it was programed to my Jeep's computer. I have a 2016 Jeep Patriot that needs this work done. I was told stepping on the gas pedal a few times or taking off the battery. Not sure what to do. We do this once we are done right?.~

      I had throttle body problem in my 2014. All I did is buy a new throttle body. Unhooked my battery and took out the old throttle body and put the new one. My car is running great since then and no more codes. Soon I started the car the code is done.

    I’ve replaced mine twice, 1 year apart but still keep getting the traction control light. I stop the Jeep and turn it completely off and it’s fine. What could it be, because I cannot figure it out.

    • @abbi277
      @abbi277 Před 3 lety +1

      This is what happened to me today with my 2016. Traction control light came on and off but the check engine light stayed on. I turned it over after a while and the check engine light went off. Got a p2173 code at autozone.... it idles odd... sorta like it’s pulling in air and pushing it out hard if that makes sense. I desperately wish I knew someone who knew about vehicles because I just cannot afford the cost of a mechanic right now. Any ideas you might have please share lol

    Day one,, I cleaned the throttle body. I disconnected the battery and connected the leads thinking that would reset the computer. I did this twice. Still the same ETC errors. I was disappointed and frustrated thinking it may be the manifold gasket. After a few more days of driving in safe mode, a mechanic I knew reset the computer with his scanner. Once he reset it with his scanner the error never came back. Moral of the story is make sure the computer is reset properly! I wasted an entire week.
