Dallas Cowboys 'too many needs, not enough picks' solution

  • If you're not new around here you might already know where this is headed, but the Cowboys have quite a few needs and not enough draft picks to fill them all.
    They need a starting left tackle to replace Tyron Smith, a starting center to replace Tyler Biadasz, a starting running back to replace Tony Pollard. I also need guys to compete for snaps at defensive tackle, linebacker, cornerback and wide receiver.
    The Trey Lance trade took away the Cowboys fourth round pick this year. I'd like to see them get one back and also add some more draft ammo. Let's go over the plan and the math.

    Doesn't matter what they do, they will only bad mouth and try to devalue the player when it comes time to resign the players. This front office has been a cluster *#@% for years now.. Totally lost faith/hope in this organization..

      That's where I am; they can do anything, or nothing, and it doesn't matter to me. I don't have the heart, or the stomach, to care any more. I don't bleav in this organization to punch its way out of a soggy paper sack.

      but the only way this team actually improves is by getting their number 1 picks to work out and I'd argue the cowboys are quite poor in the second round, even the late 1st round they make bad mistakes. It's almost best for them to stay put.

      Facts. They seem to not have any football/salary cap management skills. They definitely don't have any courage to make any bold decision. The Chiefs, Eagles, Steelers, Dolphins, Texans, Lions and 49ers are so fortunate to have their management groups.

      If they had actually done something to address needs during the free agency period then you can draft bpa. Unfortunately, the Cowboys were on the yacht out in the middle of the ocean and didn't have any internet and/or cell phone reception so we completely missed out on filling any needs during free agency period. Thus, we are stuck with drafting to fill holes everywhere.

    Love IT!!! Unfortunately we have to go for quantity not quality in this draft, but there's still some quality to be found in the first 100 picks.

    DT is a serious need for a Zimmer defense. There is only 2 DT's on the roster that weighs more that 285 lbs. Zimmer's d-line average 6'3 294 with a stout 1tech weighing 315 or over and the other tackle weighs between 288 and 300. We have no DT's on the roster at that size and height. These types of players must be identified and drafted during the later rounds to help Zimmer effectively implement his defense.

  • @theangrycowb0y
    @theangrycowb0y Před měsícem

    Isn't it crazy that a team that won it's division for the second time (in the last three years) and hasn't lost a single "star" player (and returns one, in Diggs) would have so many holes it can't fill them in the draft? That the need to "stuff the run" is STILL so priority that we can consider wasting multiple first round picks on it but never EVER even think about taking the most important position on the team anywhere NEAR that round? I guess in the way Will keeps filling up that trophy case we still trust. Just like every other organizational model that holds on to GM's and leadership personnel (cough, QB's) that annually coil in terror at their ghosts in the post-season... Year, after year, after year.
    Sounds more like a leadership problem than a personnel problem... Owner, Coach, Fake GM and QB. And only so many of those things are malleable. So, let's keep targeting the things we can't change and tripling down on the ones we can. And remember, those who fear the post-Aikman QB drought - during which we NEVER even attempted to GET a top quarterback (and still haven't... Sean Payton just lucked us into one, not a Jones or McClay) - if we had not been 3-13/1-15, we never would have sniffed our LAST three Super Bowls. No risk it, no biscuit.
    Go Cowboy$$$

    In a perfect world for me, they trade back in the 1st and take bpa. I don't think Dallas is deep enough or talented enough at any 1 position to rule it out. Not expecting it, but I'm a Cowboys and Redsox fan so hope that an organization will change kinda goes with the territory. Lol

    @brandonrains5602 Před měsícem +1

    To use your own words; "You don't want to draft horny." You don't want to trade horny either.
    How do I do this at this point: Trade Lamb. You save future Cap Space, which seems to be what the Jones' want to do. WR is the easiest position to find talent in.
    Target the Cardinals 1st rd (27) and one of their 3rds (66)
    I know you would need to free up space, but the Cowboys should then sign Tyler Boyd and/or DJ Chark...again, "Don't draft Horny". Then extend Cooks 2-3 years because leadership is invaluable.
    Now on draft day you can look at anything... Trade Down for even more picks... or make one of those deals where someone wants back in to the 1st and they overpay by giving you a 1st next year. who knows.

    I like the sentiment but Dallas has traded it's 1st or 2nd Round picks just once in the last 10 years(probably longer). And in that situation they traded back just two spots.
    I think Dallas like 'their guys' and if they are sitting there at their pick, they will take that player and Jerry doesn't want to move back a take a possible lesser player and pass up on a better one.
    Just an observation.

    IMO your “too many needs not enough picks” solution is not all of these NEEDS are as big of needs as you think they are. Offensive Tackle is not as huge of a need because you know Tyler Smith can play the position at a high level. Center is not an emergency because you had very mediocre play from Tyler Biadsz and were fine, so Hoffman will be serviceable just like he was.
    You narrow things down substantially. IMO getting a big time playmaker at LB is your BIGGEST need, your second is getting a dynamic running back in your offense.

    • @bdgrey

      You're worse at 3 o line positions under this plan. Tyler Smith needs to stay where he is and become a HOF LG. Not move him to LT and hope he develops into a pretty good LT. We did this with La'el Collins and it didn't work out like people thought it would.

      Wouldn’t say Tyler played Left Tackle at a “high level”. Was more that he expectations for a rookie who was raw and was thrown into the deep end at the start of the season, with 0 tackle practice in training camp. He was a bit up and down to start with and struggled in second half of the season.
      You’re also forgetting the elephant in the corner of the room, Steele… who is another bad season away from being a potential 2025 cut and tackle being a massive need.
