The main purpose of the free mid day meal scheme is to coax poor parents to send their children, especially girls to school, for an education. That they get good food that they normally might not have been able to afford is secondary. It's a huge success and is slowly but surely lifting rural India out of poverty.
Their logistics system is also very appreciative...fresh food being delivered at right time is equally important...they have their own tracking system

A similar system used to be in South African Indian schools in the early days. The apartheid government stopped it in the mid-60s when Indian townships and schools were built. No schools provide free meals.

In my country a foundation called meals on wheels run and managed completely by lndians feed over 20,000 children from the poor black communities every day.Something the government has failed to address since Nelson Mandela was released from jail. Indians provide free medical camps to the same communities, free stationery and school books to hundreds of schools. Indians are the same wherever they live ,very caring naturally

There are many untold stories about the good that is happening in India to support the poor, promote education, and provide nutrition and nourishment to these growing bodies and minds; as they say, you can only focus when your stomach is full, and this is especially true for children. And, it is also a way to attract parents to send their kid to school, as others have noted in the comments. Isn't it amazing! 🙂

Yes this is the reality I am a retired teacher of government of Rajasthan school as on the border villages near to Pakistan border and in cities things are same lunch is provided free to all the children coming to schools

Akshaya Patra, being part of ISKON serves only vegetarian meals with lots of care to ensure that the food is locally accepted and is designed to provide a balanced diet for the kids. Most of the schools served are government schools where these meals might be the only balanced meal a child gets. This scheme helps poor parents to send their kids to school to not only learn but also have that balanced meal that is very useful when a kid is in his/her growing years.

Gr8 reaction. Also glad there were no pop up photos of Modi in the video, usually taking all the credit away. Our People are very giving and donate to the needy, it's a cultural thing. Indians are growing and developing as a community and a nation naturally. Politicians usually just ride that wave.
